http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/12 ... tax-rates/

There's a shocker  lets keep UI AND the tax cuts. It's almost as if we're trying to take the wrong path. We're going to have to cut spending from somewhere, and it's going to hurt when it happens. Putting it off is only adding to how painful it's going to be imho. How is this sustainable on any level?

I mean seriously, when are we gonna tell the people in charge to shut the friggin tap off. You can't pay for people not to work, give everyone tax cuts AND wage war on the f*** world ALL at the same time. That's not even touching all of the other programs hemorrhaging money ffs. When is enough enough?

Does anyone see the unemployment rate going down within the next 6 months? I sure as hell don't, in fact the media has been running programs telling people to prepare for being unemployed for a lot longer. How can that be? The rich people are going to make a bunch more jobs right? GTFO with that s***.

I feel like the people running this sideshow circus are calling me a dumbass. Seriously. Are you telling me we couldn't work out a better damn deal then this? This isn't bipartisan negotiating, it's the opposite. It's no one willing to budge so they're just giving everyone everything they want. THIS is best we can do? I could go to an AA meeting and hash out a better f*** deal.

For 1 friggin thing, where did we come up with this arbitrary $250,000 mark? And when the hell did $250,000 become the mark to reach where a family of 4 becomes considered "rich". Um...GTFO with that s***. Again you're calling me a dumbass RIGHT to my face. Why not make it a Million. If you make a million bucks annually you don't get the tax break. Surely that number would negatively effect far fewer people and many less small business's. If you're clearing a million bucks annually good for you, but your tax breaks are going away. We're not increasing your taxes mind you, just removing the breaks. People that file for that much money have gobs of other deductions they abuse already.

No and no...

Lets just keep our budget upside down and continue to pay people not to work.

I know I know, I didn't mention anything being given up by the hippies, I mean Liberals :poke: How about anyone receiving UI has to take a monthly piss test? Piss hot, no check, reapply next month. In fact, they can adopt that policy for anyone receiving ANY financial assistance that comes from any taxes, state or federal. Piss hot 3 times in 1 year, gtfo, you get nothing ever again. I bet we'd cut the amount of UI payments by 1/2 within the first 6 months.

THAT would be negotiating. The fools we have in DC right now take all of their money, put it on the p0ker table...show their cards...argue...whine...and then take all their money back and then the house pays them whatever they would have won had they not been a bunch of greedy f***. Just wow...

My daughter is having a s***-fit because UI is not being extended. Her hubby has been out of work for almost a year now and she's now upset because they won't get the 99 weeks that others have had. Of course, since they have been receiving UI they have been unwilling to find a job or do anything to fix their situation. Now, it's the bad Republicans in charge who are at fault....and my fault for not wanting to shovel her money to make her life easier.....

Guess I'm a horrible person....

Pretty much. I could always send her a couple grand a month so they never have to work a day in their lives, can sit around their Section 8 apartment with their kids and surf the internet and watch TV while they do nothing but complain that nobody helps them.

Seems to be the Democrat direction.

My neighbor voluntarily didn't take her old job back recently. She worked in a Mexican joint that burned down, well the rebuilt it and asked everyone that worked there prior to come back, she said straight said, "why should I work when I can get paid just about the same amount of money every week for another year without working"..

Who the hell can blame her? She made piss money waiting tables and makes a tad less for sitting home and spending time with her kids. Paid vacation.

...Except that if the unemployment office finds out that she turned it down she doesn't get paid anymore? We've got great methods of keeping unemployment benefits honest, we just do a really crappy job of acting on those methods.

It's not like the 99-weekers get to just whistle away their time in the Unemployment Office - they have to list the addresses and contact information for the jobs that they sought out.

Yeah. And? It's a lot easier to just get a job than to continually try to hunt down a new set of interviews to put on your unemployment benefits application.

I mean, assuming that we're not sitting in an economy where there's one job for every five unemployed persons. 'Cause that context alone sort of suggests that "we're the reason they're not working" is a crappy theory.

Wrong, wrong, and wrong.

Please don't assume that your state's supposed policies are universal. More later, but suffice it to say, there's more than one incorrect statements therein.

You would be amazed. At my last job I was given the task of going through all the online applications. The business had a very public face, so applications were frequent, probably 30+ a week. The online application included a test that covered some basic psych stuff as well as some math and communication skills. While difficult to achieve over a 95% or so, just blindly filling in answers usually got a score of 20-30%. So how many 0% score do you think I got in a week? It was odd if it was less than a third. And many of the written sections were written so as to make sure there was no way in hell they would ever get a call back.

People do what they have to to get by. And not a lick more.

California doesn't check - you can make up jobs to fill in the blanks.

Free money is better than working a job to most people. Give them the opportunity of free money for 2 years, and *coincidentally* they will be unemployed for 2 years. Funny how that works...

Correct. You all knock religion, but the church I go to has been hard on the entitlement mentality. They cover it almost every Sunday, as it's the source of great unhappiness in life.

You've been sitting on your a** for 50 weeks and between UI + food stamps + other benefits are just squeaking by. You have cable TV and internet connectivity. The Gov extends UI to 99 weeks, then adds another 32 weeks by the end of Dec. Why oh why would the lazy get off their butt and get a job when they can chill out for another 81 weeks?

Well, I'm not sure. Let's say you used up your 99 weeks then you would get 32 more weeks. If you've only used up 50 weeks then you would get extended to 99 and then get the additional 32 I guess?

Not if they pass this bill that everyone is up in arms over. It gives another 32 weeks on top of the 99 I do believe.

Correct.

I have a local acquaintance who has been receiving UI for over 100 weeks.

I posted in another thread how the system is "gamed". I'll find it. Those of you (and them) who think the UI should be extended are just as useless as my acquaintance (former friend - he doesn't like my view of his lifestyle), because you're enabling.
