If there was fraud in awarding the contracts, then I'd think the aggrieved party would have filed suit by now - especially considering the public "tone" towards the previous Administration (and the incessant, hypocritical Bush-bashing of the current Loudmouth-In-Chief).

The timetable is only what Bechtel stated publicly; not the reasons given inside the company. Not going to open a huge can of worms if you still hope to to get future contracts from Washington.

Not at all. Just that the reasons they are stating publicly are not in line with what employees within the company were told.

You are assuming something untoward went down regarding Bechtel. It didn't. The untoward part was offering no-bid contracts to people in a manner that calls into question conflict of interest issues.

I firmly believe that if the secrecy surrounding the vast majority of the way the Bush Administraion did business in a lot of issues lends itself to serious corruption questions. After the fact, however, I don't believe that what this nation needs is a long, drawn out investigation followed by filing charges and trials at this point. They established ugly precedents that now subsequent politicians can take advantage of in the White House.

Both parties are merely seizing every opportunity to strengthen their stranglehold on power in this country at the expense of the majority of the citizens.

Whereas I firmly believe if something underhanded (read: illegal) really did happen and the Dems could prove it they would have buried Bush and anyone else in his organization a long long time ago.

Additionally, nobody has been forcing the current Administration to follow in Bush's footsteps either. They claimed they were above such and would fix everything that Bush broke.

The Dems recognize the power those precedents the Bush Administration provided them and are not interested in giving them up. I no longer make the presumption that any of those people from either party have any integrity left by the time they get to that level.
