Thinking about doing this and a local guy is parting out a car. Couldn't find much info, but looking for help from anyone who's done it. What all did you have to get, as far as wiring goes (I know I need the mirrors, switch, and the wiring from the mirrors to the switch). What all else is needed?

Thanks

positronone and Bart's write ups got me into this power folding mirror mode. Actually, I'm in the middle of it, but I got side tracked somehow. I was going to do a complete write up on it once it's done. Wiring is really easy if you follow write ups and FSM. I also used molex connectors like Bart suggested. Why don't you get power folding mirrors? You'll go through exact same steps to install them anyway.

JDM Power Folding Mirrors. I cleaned and bench tested them. All you need is a 12V adaptor for testing.

Whatever mirrors and switch you get, install the switch here. Nothing interferes with the wires in the back side and no need to take out the center console. Orientation(up, down, left and right) is perfect too. I made a template, marked it and heated up the paper knife with a torch and cut the trim. I was thinking about the location where Glyph's put his mirror switch(O/D light or coin holder location in the bezel), but there's no way I could make it look like stock, so I picked this spot. Switch is from 180sx kouki. It has a nipple, so it's easy to control it although it's down there.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Oh! That steering column lower trim piece is not available from dealership, so you have to be very careful. Get one from junkyard, cut and swap it. That's what I did.

Power folding is just one of those JDM things thast seem kind of frivolous to me. Plus I got my power mirrors for a steal. Like 20 bucks or something like that. I had a friend parting out an SE hatch back when I did that install. The reason I hid my switch the way I did was that I wanted to either put it in a stock looking location, or hide the switch. I'm just anal like that I guess. Although I have to admit that where you put it, it does look nice there.

I have tight space in the garage, so I fold mirror on aisle side every time after I park. Hopefully, this mode will come in handy. Here's another spot you can use with a flat type switch that has no nipple. I mean on the driver's side(couldn't find a good pic at the moment), but orientation won't be right and center console will cost more if you mess up.

Man, that's what I get for not searching 'power' and just looking for electric. That and lack of time today, WTF they want me to work or something.

Yeah I need to get out more. Last year was pretty bad with getting laid off/no job for a while, but I did make NOPI. This year will hopefully get out and finally get some stuff done to these cars that I've had planned for years.

I really wanted to have gone to NOPI, but the timing wasn't right and I was broke as could be. I'm hoping to make the Trifecta of Carlisle, NOPI, and VIR this year though. And the vert should hopefully have a fresh coat of paint and will definitely have the new SR in it.

There's my issue, its an embarassment to have owned only slow/ugly 240s for over 12 years. Makes it hard to go out in public. Hoping at least my turbo kit will be on my coupe by year's end. But have to buy a house.

Thought I would like to share that there are also heated power folding mirrors if you really want to be JDM 1337 I have only seen pics of them/the switch though, never seen a set for sale. I think they were only available as options on the 97-98 180sx koukis

You mean this. I could have gotten a set if I tried harder, but for me, there's no point having it cuz I live in TX, I don't drive my vert in the rain and it's garage kept. This switch is like $60 brand new, and it's still available from Japan. Left button lights up when it's on BTW.

This is a switch from Skyline. Mounted vertically. This will work great in a vert too.

Most common switch.

Do you know of a source where I can buy one of these switches brand new? I'm going to do the power folding mirror install on my car soon and would love to have a new switch. Thanks.

Which switch you want? The one I have(180sx kouki), Skyline or switch for heated side mirrors?

Problem is a harness. If you get just the switch without a harness, you will have to solder wires to each pin and figure out what each wire does. Pins are not easy to get to.

I have 3 part numbers for the switches. I know the number for heated mirror switch, but I don't know the other two. I'm positive one is flat type switch and the other one is 180sx kouki.

The harness for the switch is coming with the mirrors but I just wanted the 180sx style switch. I might just say "f" it and use what I got coming. From what I could tell the switch looked to be in good condition so I will have to see. thanks!

Harness is unique for each switch, so they are not interchangeable. Check your email and let me know.

Sorry to bring up an old post, but I just got a set of power folding mirrors w/ the heated switch, but the switch did not come with a pigtail, and it is completely different that the USDM/other JDM switch. Any chance you have an extra pig tail for it, or perhaps you have the pin out (just the colors is fine)? Thanks!

Is the heated element an S13 deal? I've seen them on JDM S14s. Also, Nissan has teh switch activate a relay to power the heating element. I have a feeling if you try to run the heating element directly from the switch, you'll burn it up in no time.

Yeh, apparently there were heated s13 mirrors in the UK, however, mine are not heated, just came with that switch for some reason. After some researching, it turns out that the '95 s14 FSM has the pin out for that connector (96-98 is different), and I was able to find a harness connector that fits perfectly on one of my s13 harnesses (big box of wire FTW).

I think that the plug for the rear vert window is what I actually used, not sure though. Anyways, was a bit extra work and frustration to get it working, but now it is wired like stock, and works very well! For 70 bucks, I guess I can't complain at all, plus, I think that that switch is a lot cooler than the reg. s13 switch My only gripe is that the pass. side mirror folds more than the driver's side, but I guess that happens to everyone ? If I get some time I am going to take it apart again and see what is restricting it.

If anyone needs pics or a wiring diagram, LMK, i will make one quick.

Thanks for the help!

Oh!!! You swapped the bases and installed them properly I suppose. Yes, mine does the same thing. Passenger side mirror folds more. I took them apart to adjust it, but there's no way. It's something that you have to live with. Motor is inside of the case with gears, so you better not mess with it. It's doing it because JDM mirrors are on USDM bases.

I figured the passenger side closed more as that's the JDM driver side, and they're more likely to close park that side.
