So, yesterday, the wife asked me to make dinner. I hadn't done it for her for a while, so I set about figuring out what we had. A quick look through the fridge and...nothing. Look into the freezer, and I notice we still have some Ore-Ida Tater Tots. WOOT! Tater Tot Caserole it is...and here's how it's done.
What you need.
1lb of ground beef2 cups of shredded cheese (Cheddar is good, but you can use what ever)1 to 1.5 cups of diced onion (Up to you on how much you want)1 can Cream of Mushroom Soup1 bag of frozen tater tots
I used a 9X9 baking dish, and that seems to be the best size for this dish. You can use what size you want, but this recipe is for the 9X9 dish.
Be sure to pre-heat your oven at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes.
Start off with browning the ground beef, adding in salt and pepper and if you have it, Lawry's Seasoned Salt.
Drain the beef of the grease, then mix together the beef, onions and the entire can of cream of mushroom soup into a mixing pan
Once everything is mixed together, put the contents into the baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
Next, take half of your shredded cheese, and make a layer over the mixture.
*NOTE: You might want to use pre-shredded cheese for this recipe. I shredded my own cheese, and it got all clumpy and hard to spread evenly.*
Now, all you need to do is add your tater tots to the top of that.
Take the rest of the shredded cheese and coat the tater tots.
Throw that bad boy into the oven at 350 for 30-35 minutes, and when the time is up, take it out and enjoy.
This will feed 2-4 people quite well. There is a lot more there that it looks. It's super easy to do, and tastes great. Give it a try and let me know how it turns out.
