I miss the point of the Crytek games. Back in 2004 I had a nice rig and bought Far Cry. It was in interesting game, certainly beautiful, but the gameplay had a LOT of issues. I don't give half a damn if a game is going to set the benchmark for graphics. Graphics != a good game. The stupid thing is all Crytek's followups have had the same problems.

Save points are not acceptable. No excuse. No. No justifiable. They are wrong. GTFO until you let us save when we want. And moving to consoles will ensure that one's not going anywhere.

GT5 said they would add damage, but we all know thats a ruse, its still going to be bumper cars. They boast about there graphics and the number of cars available.....well sheeet if had a logical number of cars the game would probably be out right now.I dont see how GT5 is going to beat Forza 3.GT5 is in the grave.

right...as if gt5 was in the grave lol. Forza 3 will pass and go without gt5 even knowing lol. btw they showed damage in GT5 in the teaser if you check the WRC part where the Sti gets its front bumper destroyed.

forza 3 will be awesome and gt5 will be awesome. both will coexist I think. since i'm getting both I don't care hahaha.
MinisterofDOOM wrote:The Metroid game looks interesting. Honestly, though...I'm worried. Nintendo has been falling down a lot with the franchise lately. They need to do some simpler things instead of trying to push it forward. What happened to Metroid Dread? Fusion sucked, Hunters was a disappointment...we still haven't seen Metroid 3 (the best Metroid game of all) ported to a handheld yet.

I'd rather see a 3d/2d hybrid sidescroller for the DS than some stupid Ninja Gaiden wannabe crap.
metroid fusion was awesome, metroid zero too was AWESOME. the 3d crap on gamecube sucked but this metroid seems really really cool, it's like a 3d/2d game. Go play some ninja gaiden sigma to see how awesome it's going to be lool

Fusion was terrible. It wasn't even a Metroid game. It just happened to have a main character named Samus. EVERYTHING was wrong. The suit was changed, the stupid x-parasites were introduced, there was no free exploration. Not a Metroid game. It did not play, feel, or look like a Metroid game. I own them all. And I hate Fusion.

Zero Mission was indeed fantastic, because it was basically just a remake of the original in the Metroid 3 engine...and Metroid 3 was the best of them all. Fusion used the Metroid 3 engine, too, but Nintendo dumbed down the gameplay immensely.

The Prime trilogy was AMAZING. Masterful adaptation of the game to first-person, retaining everything important and adding more awesome on top.

I hate the Ninja Gaiden games. And even if I didn't, that's still not what I want out of Metroid. I want more Zero Mission/Metroid 3 style gameplay. Why the hell hasn't the SNES Metroid 3 been ported to GBA or DS yet?! Even if "Other M" does turn out to be fun...It's not Metroid 3, and it's not Metroid Dread...and those are what I want. Instead of going to new places with the franchise, let's get the most out of what we've got already! Dread has been abandoned. Unabandon it and get it out to us!!!!!

I could care less about anything that Nintendo puts out. I want a Wii yes, but I want it for a very limited reason. I want it for the interactivity of it and to actually get some exercise while I play. I want a wii for the virtual console and for the wii fitness stuff, that's it. The new Punch Out game would be nice too. besides that they have nothing I care about. I do like the internet function and seriously wish MS would get their head out of their a** and offer at least something similar. The PS network has something similar and MS has stated they are going to be adding social sites (Facebook and Twitter), but no. Yeah their is a way to go to the internet through the backdoor if you have Windows Media Center. That's not good enough, it's not like they can't put a variant of IE in the market place or better yet put it in a patch. I don't want anything major, but if people can surf the internet on their cellphones why can't I do it on my xbox.

Kinda defeats the purpose of a GT5 vs Forza 3 thread.....oww wait this isnt the GT5 vs Forza 3 thread....dangnabit!!! I fail.

God of War III looked fantastic. im so glad its only coming out next year, it gives me time to save up for a PS3.Ive been meaning to get one since i heard Heavy Rain was exclusive.

And im still shocked at how good Among Thieves looks, i cant believe thats all inengine, animations are perfect but graphics are top notch.

But what really stole the show for me....has to be Splinter Cell, i skipped Double Agent because i felt it was a step backwards from the Chaos Theory, but this new looks like is going to redeem the splinter cell name.

Perfect Dark 1080P for XBLA!!!! Haha that's awesome!

And Modern Warfare 2 will be the best selling game ever, of any genre or system. There's no way it won't be.

Really? I found the animation in Among Theives lacking, there were lots of parts in that demo where he was getting hit by that helicopter and he wasn't even flinching or reacting to the hits. Watch it again where he runs along the roof and makes that jump he gets hit like 20 times but nothing happens. And Conviction looked great up until the part where he busted down the door guns blazing climbing along walls like bloody spiderman.

And you want a virus on your Xbox? I don't...the internet can stay on my laptop...

MS has proven they are the MOST common OS for computers and game consoles...and also have proven they don't have the best defense against virus...the last thing I want is millions of hackers out there trying to crash my Xbox...

And really...I think MS needs to put more time and energy in RRoD proofing a 360! How is that not goal #1?

Yea...there is a way...nothing will pass Wii Play for a WHILE! And the only way it will get passed is if a console sticks with a base game for years like Nintendo has done. I heard about this maybe 6 months ago when Wii Play passed Super Mario as the #1 game of all time. The only way to get those numbers is to MAKE people buy it.

If COD:5 wasn't such a waste then I would be ALLLLLLLL over MW2, but I have spent $150 on the series in the last year...I want to move on to something else...MW3 will be out in 12 months anyway, that is just the type of company they are...

Finished watching the Sony conference and have a couple points I want to touch on.

First they are focused more on the new PSP Go that they are dropping in October than on putting solid games out there. 3 hour conference and half of it was for the PSP Go. 20 minutes on the PSN Home and like 45 minutes on their motion controller thing that looks like a hack of the Wii Mote. At least the MS Project Natal is innovative and not just a cheap copy based on the Eyetoy.

Then they showed a 2 minute teaser trailer for GT5 and still no release date. What a waste.

I will say this, God of War III, stunning and if there is ever a reason to buy a PS3 it has to be that, at least you know it will be out in March of next year unlike everything else they showed for the PS3. The AC 2 demo for Sony was just a rehash of the one for Ubisoft.

Sorry i typo'd i meant to say the animations areNT perfect.

Man missing a contraction completely changes the meaning of a sentence.....damn contractions!!!

And Conviction was nigh perfect. He tagged the enemies with the mirror so when you jump in theres an Auto aim.And spidermaning along the window sills has always been in splinter cell ever since the first one.If anything you should be hyped that he can do it so fast.

I hope they put that exact demo on XBL this week.

I liked the gameplay footage, it was pretty sweet. 2 hidden blades that he used was cool. I like how they're putting da Vinci in the game building gadgets for the assassin, though.

You realize that COD5 and COD4/MW2 are developed by different companies, right? They share a publisher but the devs are different. I understand the point about spending money on DLC and Activision trying to crank them out as fast as possible. But You have to look at them as separate games...it's two studios cranking them out so of course the two series will follow pretty quickly. I doubt modern warfare 3 will follow as quickly as MW2 did.

I honestly don't get why COD:WAW get such a bad rap. They fixed most of the glitches and grenade spawns shortly after it dropped. The multiplayer is pretty freakin awesome, almost better than COD4, at least in WAW if you shoot someone they die.

I know they have two different developers, but I don't really get the point of that...They say they share the same Engine...and that means the only thing that the developer would change is the Look of the game and interaction with the maps. Am I correct in that?

I have no problem with the game play, I LOVE the WWII scene. I had told my wife that when I got COD4, that I wish it was WWII (because I had just bought my Xbox and never played COD2 or COD3.) Well, I have it now and enjoy it...but the fun part about COD4 was that EVERYONE owned it...EVERYONE! Now, a lot of people didn't get WaW because they had COD4...and those people will buy MW2...but the people that bought WaW, only half of them will buy MW2 (like me not wanting it) so the fun drops slightly there...

I don't know...Halo 3 is out for 2-3 years before they release others...while Activision releases every 10-12 months, with a $10 map pack in the middle...if they just took 1 year off...everyone would get bored of the last one and the WHOLE process that started with COD4 would start over again in the fact that EVERYONE would get the new game, and my enjoyment would be revived! That is why I want FM3, it has been 3 years since the last, and my interest is sparked, bring it on!!!

Dates from Wikipedia

Call of Duty 2 and November 15, 2005

Call of Duty 3 on November 7, 2006.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare on November 7, 2007

Call of Duty: World at War on November 11, 2008

Modern Warfare 2 November 10, 2009

Call of Duty 7 (working title) - No Info Yet

See...the only reason things TOOK OFF with COD4 was because it was completely different...everyone had COD2(Release title) and some liked COD3...so when COD4 was released and it was completely different it took off! This is why I said if I hadn't spent my $70 for COD:WaW ($60 game/$10 Maps) I would be getting MW2.

Actually, no. They only share the same engine because the publisher owns all the rights to the games, so they hijacked the new good one. Engine sharing, even between hugely different games, is nothing new. The engine is a bare-bones basis for a game...you could make a sidescroller out of the COD4 engine if you wanted. It doesn't dictate any necessary similarity between games that share it. I mean GoW used the Unreal 3 engine...and those two games play very differently. The original Half Life used a heavily modified version the Quake 2 engine...and was much more advanced, technically.

Plenty of games that have nothing in common...no publisher, no developer, no top-level "content"...share engines. Doesn't really change anything with COD. Even if they had separate publishers, it's likely that Activision would have licensed the rights to use the COD4 engine cor COD5 anyway, as it was very well done.

Sharing an engine is deeper than just modding the top-level content of one game (like CS for HL for example). Even mods can change things a lot, but there's a lot of wiggle room for anyone using the COD4 engine to create a unique end-user experience that's more than juts retextured COD4.

IE on the other hand is cool. A browser isn't new on PS3 but it is cool to finally have it on Xbox...

Project Natal is definately a step up from the rest. But lets take a step back and think about this. You come home from a long day at work, you get your beer, you sit down in your couch to play a hockey game or a sport game. But wait in order to play this you need to stand up and move your body. Like I said its a fantastic idea but sometimes I just like to come home from a long day at work, sit my arse down, pick up that controller and let my fingers do the work. I mean just imagine how long you will last if you have to move as much as the people I saw moving in the video for project Natal. I mean I know I will buy it, I have the Wii which is just picking up dust because I have to have the new technology, but I just figured I would bring this into perspective.

Update:

The show was very media-centric. Since the GF is in the industry and not media, she didn't get to see all the behind closed doors stuff. Kind of a bummer. She did say she got to play some of the new Halo 3 ODST. Apparently, they have a horde mode similar to GeOW2. She picked up a very niuce Assassin's Creed 2 poster for me as well.

The Video Game Music Live show was pretty cool. Highlights for me were Martin Leung and Dee Baker. Martin Leung is the guy who did the Mario Themesong Blindfolded on a Piano:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXgZhPjMQLQ

While he did perform that live, I was much more impressed with his ability to play the Tetris Theme. His hands were all over the place and moving very fast. To top that off, he sped it up. It was absolutely amazing.

Dee Baker is this guy:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dee_Bradley_Baker

Basically does a lot of voice acting. He did the voice for the Berserker from GeOW live while following a video clip of game play of the Berserker. It was frigging amazing.
