wulfgang i think u are backwards. the rb air bleed is good since its at the top of the system. since air bubbles have a tendancy to float to the top having the bleed screw there makes all the bubbles come out good.

I've heard some people put a couple drop of hand soap into the radiator will help cooling. (I'm NOT kidding) Has anyone tried that? Maybe it'll help.

i'm using an autometer temp gauge, and i forgot to switch the sensor to the autometer one and it was always reading hot. So i got the autometer temp sensor, and put it it, and it reads fine. I never have overheating issues when the car is moving, and i have 2 12" fans that i use if i have to get into traffic, i never get any type of overheating. AND i'm using the stock KA radiator. so i think you might need to use the right sensor for your gauge...if you aren't. It scared the crap out of me.

and whats up with notchback being an *** in all his posts?

What is the advantage of using "pusher" fans as opposed to conventional fans?

UMMM, WE HAVE TO FOR THESE SWAPS AS WE DON'T HAVE MUCH ROOM ON THE ENGINE SIDE OF THE RADIATOR. UNLESS YOU FIND SUPER THIN FANS YOU WONT HAVE THE ROOM NEEDED. I NEED TO FIND A SMALL PULLER TO SQUEEZE INTO THE ENGINE SIDE FOR THOSE JUST IN CASE INCIDENTS.

Frostedflakes, what I mean about the air bleed is that it might be too high. Because it is so high, when you try to fill the system with water, no water gets up to that intake block. The only way to fill that part with water is to put water into that bleed hole.

Bleeding only removes air if water can push the air out. If the water doesn't go that high, then it won't push the air out.

Check out this diagram:

I'm not sure if I ever told you, but you have a 170 deg thermostat. This might also be a factor in how it stays so cool.

I would use Redline's water wetter before I used soap.

170 DEGREE IS OEM. 180 IS FOR ENGINES THAT RUN COOLER AND 149 IS THE NISMO RACING ONE.

WELL ITS DEFINATELY OVERHEATING BECAUSE THE WATER BOILS OVER INTO THE OVERFLOW. I'M GOING TO TRY AND GET A LOWER TEMP THERMOSTAT, SHROUD THE FAN AS BEST AS POSSIBLE, USE A HIGHER ANTI-FREEZE MIXTURE RATIO, AND MAYBE SOME WATER WETTER. NEXT MONTH I'M GETTING A RADIATOR AND OIL COOLER SO HOPEFULLY THAT WILL HELP.

There is some good info in that writeup. When you said go with a higher ratio, did you mean more coolant in the mix? If you did, this article says to do otherwise. This FAQ page has been very helpful in the past.

Best way to keep a system cool:

more water than antifreeze (if climate permits)good radiator (stock KA or RB could be clogged and just not the best)lower temp thermostatoil coolerGOOD fans (a shroud is a must, otherwise the air just blows around the radiator like you stated)water wetter (have yet to try this)Removing water lines from water-cooled turbo

IT IS A BRAND NEW KA RADIATOR.I'M BUILDING A SHROUD.I LIVE IN THE LAND OF 120 DEGREE SUMMERS SO ANTI-FREEZE IS A MUST.

This is an interesting read that might help.

Going by that table on the MKIV link I posted before, you could probably get away with the 20/80 coolant to water ratio. Hopefully your temps won't go over 253, and it doesn't get below 16 deg there does it? This would at least work for the summer.

Well, the antifreeze doesn't cool as well as water does. I think its boiling point my be higher? but it's mainly for cold climates. Distilled water will cool best, especially with some water-wetter.

What is the rating of your radiator cap? You are sure you have fully bubbled your system correctly (original fill, cap radiator, start, unscrew bleeder, stab throttle a few times, turn car off, fill coolant up in radiator, replace cap, repeat... all from memory, but should be correct)?

YES, I'VE BLED IT MULTIPLE TIMES. I'VE DONE IT ON MY KA ALSO SO I KNOW I'M DOING IT RIGHT UNLESS ITS DIFFERENT FOR THE RB.

I gave him the address you sent me in the email a while ago. It is a manual trans, and he had to put it into more than one box since it was in pieces.
