ok so i have a question....cause i'm always scared of screwing things up. is it easy to take off the kickplates that are already on the car?? cause when i order i'm going to just let you get the kickplates and do it so i'll have the stock ones for a backup!

Altimus_Maximus wrote:Those look really great!!! I hope I can save up enough to get a pair, but money is a little tight right now.

But seriously, all these people who come on here complaining about the price of every member-created special offering need to get smacked. IF you want the damn thing, buy it. If not, then STFU!!!

It is awesome that people like Rob take the time to do something special for everyone here - that is plainly a gift to our community. But these haggler types who want to come on here and try and talk down the price of stuff by $10 or $20 can only achieve one thing - to leave a bad taste in the mouth of everyone who thought they might be do something nice for the community like this. The last thing we need to do is discourage people from offering us kick-*** mods because the community is a bunch of stingy and ungrateful brats.

These kickplates are dirt-cheap in the scheme of things - I'd like to see any of us try and make such a clean and killer product in their spare time. I dunno, I'm mostly a lurker here - nobody special at all. But when I see Rob struggling to explain himself to a bunch of whiny whelps, it really bothers me when this guy has done so much for this forum and our cars. Yes, the nismo is gonna cost more, it has two different colors. And like the Doc said, he already made the templates up for "NISSAN" and "ALTIMA." So go on and question his judgment for that and lecture him on how he ought to have made a template for "NISMO" too so he could offer it same price.... Jeez.

From now on, can we just make a rule, no bitching or questioning the price of member-created mods. If you don't want it, then don't get it. Period. I know I may have been spazzing a little in this post, but it's also built up a little from reading that thread about the $8 stickers and all the whining.

/end rant and sorry if I stepped on toes. Just want to make sure Rob knows that the silent majority think he's a cool cat and we are thankful for his input and expertise and respect his judgment on what price his damn kickplates ought to be.
I appreciate the kind words directed at me and your understanding of the price situation... However, I do not want to create any havoc or negative feelings regarding these. I just want folks to understand that I am not making a lot of money off of these, I wish I was, but I am not... just today, I went to the cutom shop to get an idea of how much it really costs for a new template, and indeed, its very close to the $50 mark...

Furthermore, I have to pay money to the Admins here at NICOCLUB.com, just to offer these kickplate to you guys! Honestly, if it wasn't for the respect that I have for the NICO family, I would be charging an extra $100 for these items... these are show car quality products! And the time and energy alone is worth the extra money.

In any case, fellas, let's just get back to business. I apologize, but for carbon fiber, nismo (due to the multiple colors) and for custom orders, I have to charge more money!

How much wiring are we talking about?. Just a power source (from the battery) and a ground? How fast do the lights kick on when you open the doors?

very minimal wiring... you just hook up ground and negative to the wires in the courtesy lights...

the most difficult part will be getting the wires into the door through the rubber grommets... but I will have pictures of this along with the installation instructions!

The lights kick on immediately when the door is open, by the time you can see the kickplates, the light will already be on. These don;t have the delay that ballasts have if that's what you're thinking!

Altimus,

Please don't take the comment to heart. It really wasn't anything personal. Don't be discouraged from posting either. We're no clique, we're a family!

Here's an example (without pics) of the entire process of installing the illuminated kickplates. It took me about 30 minutes from start to finish, but I've taken apart the A/C a few times. It should take ~ 1 hr for a semi skilled installer. If this looks like too muchw work, then please make preparations to take to a local installer.

Its only really long because they are very detailed, step by step instructions!

KICKPLATE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

TOOLS NEEDED (not supplied):

Electrical tapeWire strippers / crimpersThin flat head screw driverPhilips head screw driverWD40 (not necessary but helpful)

1. Remove negative battery terminal

2. Install both kickplates (driver’s side and passenger’s sidea. Snap kickplate into placeb. Pull up rubber surround the door openingc. Run black wires from power inverter across the door framed. Reinstall rubber surrounding the doore. Leave the power inverter connection out for now

3. Remove door panela. First pry off the cover inside the door handle, then unscrew the screw inside.b. Now pry up the window switch cover starting from the bottom.c. Once unclipped undo the wire connection, then place the assembly asided. Now pry off the trim peace, starting from the rear and moving forward.e. Then pull it away...f. Now pry out the door light and unclip itg. Remove the screw under where the trim piece wash. And the one where the window switch wasi. Now begin prying off the actual door panel. There were a total of 3 screws removed.j. Remove the 6.5” speaker

4. Hook up light sourcea. Attach power inverter to light on kickplateb. Splice the red and black wires on power inverters to one end of the red/black power and ground wire supplied in your kit. **Do this for only one kickplate**c. Store the transformer underneath the kickplate or floor carpetd. Route the supplied Red/Black power and ground wire underneath the carpet at the floorboard, behind the center console and to the opposite side (if you started on driver’s side, run it over to the passenger’s side)e. Now splice the power and ground wires on the power inverter to the Red / Black power and ground wires run underneath the floorboard, but splice it about 4 feet from the end. You will need the extra 4 ft to run through the door!f. Using the large zip tie, and electrical tape, tape the ends of the black/red wires to the end of the zip tie. g. Remove the rubber door grommeth. Run the zip tie through the door until you see it come outi. Pull the zip tie and wire completely through the door. j. Run the zip tie down the rubber grommet, use WD40 for lubrication.k. Now , run the Zip tie through the hole for the 6.5” speaker. l. Remove the power/ ground wires from the zip tie and splice them into the wires going down to the courtesy light. (It may be helpful to CAREFULLY cut away at the grey cover over the light, and splice it in higher up as shown in the picture.m. Use smaller zip ties to hold power/ground wires in placen. Reattach door and rubber grommets, connect the negative terminal on the battery, sit back and enjoy!

no need to explain, i have a 5 1/2 month old myself... folks always ask me "why didn't you return my call, didn't you see I called".. and I'm like dude, I'm on baby duty when I get home, and by the time I bathe her, feed her, and put her to sleep, I'm sorry if calling YOU wasn't at the top of my list

so i feel ya! THanks again for the support!

yes, for a clean install, you must take off the door panel (thanks Blake)... if you can figure out a better way to get tap the door courtesy lights, then go for it. But I went through the field service manual and that thing was no help at all, this seems like the easiest way!

the courtsey light wires have to go from the door into the car somewhere right? like into the fuse box? there are other lights in the car that go on when the door opens...

yes, namely the dome light and the map lights... however, those have switched connections also which make tapping into them a little different.

I'm sure there are fuses somewhere to tap into, however, for me, it was easier (and more permanent) to remove the door panel. It really isn't that difficult!

HEY GUYS, when I use up the materials I have available right now, I MAY NOT BE MAKING ANY MORE KICKPLATES!!

Thus, I may only take another 4 or 5 orders, and that's it.

I'm making VERY LITTLE profit off of these, and it just is not worth the time and energy. SORRY FELLAS! BUt for the guys that have placed orders, you are gonna LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!

i think the indigo and red will look BETTER than the white... reason being, with el tape, in order to get white, they are always a bit pink when not lit. THus, during the day, in direct sunlight, they will appear pink, but in the shadow during the day, at dusk, and at night, they will look spectacular.

The indigo and red, however, are blue and red during the day respectively, so they will look absolutely amazing all the time!

how many orders have you received doc? i'd imagine bookoo's!

seriously yall, this is better than group buy pricing! if the doc pulls the cord on this you probably won't see them again and to have them made will cost you more than double and they won't be made by the hands of a Frickin' Doctor!

can't wait to get mine doc and the install looks about as basic as anything else you could do mod wise with the car.
