This is an E-mail that I recieved.

IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN THE UNITED STATES DID NOTPURCHASE A DROP OF GASOLINE FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME, THEOIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES.

AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OFOVER 4.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OILCOMPANIES.

THEREFORE MAY 19TH HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED "STICK IT UP THEIR behind " DAY AND THE PEOPLE OF THIS NATION SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLEDROPOF GASOLINE THAT DAY.

extremely flaming....

people do not realize that we get most of our oil, like the vast majority, from our northern and southern brothers. we get very little oil from the middle east due to cost and their womanyness. i dunno if the email meant to attack the ME oil, or oil in genereal. the other thing is, its not the oil producers problem, its the refiners. even if oil production is increased, if the refiners arent making as much, we still dont see any gains or drop in prices....

We get 19.9% of our oil from Canada. Edited because I was looking at the wrong thing earlier. Sorry.

and we also get a lot from south america too. dont know the full amount, but the 38% and what ever from venezula and mexico and stuff is much more than the little we get from the ME. its cheaper getting it here.

U.S. Oil Imports:

Canada 1.79mbdSaudi Arabia 1.66mbdVenezuela 1.54mbdMexico 1.42mbdNigeria .86mbdIraq .78mbdNorway .33mbdAngola .32mbdUnited Kingdom .31mbd

MBD= million barrels per day

So you could say that the "Middle East" countries account for 27.1% of our imports.

But 42.4% come from Central/South American countries.

In other words, its not "stick it up their behinds" day, its "we poorly researched our oil consumption and we want to attack the middle east" day, because thats what it sounds like to me.

The article Dane posted does not mention the Middle East at all. I think it is more in response to the recent price hike for gasoline.

Oh I know that, I'm just going with what people think is common knowledge--that the US gets most of its oil from the middle east. Ask a few people where the us gets most of its oil from one day;).

Agreed. It is a common misconception only because the Middle East countries are the major players in OPEC.

Do you guys like high gas prices? I know you don't, so why defend it?

you think that will do anything? no, it wont. why? because the maybe 1000 people who dont by gas will be more than compensated for by all the soccer moms in SUVs. even if that happened, they wouldnt drop prices, because everyone would rush to the pumps the next day to get gas in their cars so they can drive to work and explain to their bosses why they didnt show up the day before.

BTW, how old are you?

The statement is not directed at any country/region.

Just get gas the day before. If there is a large portion of people not buying gas that day the gas companies will notice.I doubt that it will seriously make a big difference in the high gas prices but its about the only thing that I have herd of that could.

Not buying gas for one day is going to affect anything. Those huge tanks under the gas stations are filled regularly evry couple of weeks.

They don't care if they get your money on the 18th, 19th or 20th. They know they are going to get it.

If you want to effect gas prices:

car pool or ride a bike to worktrade in the SUVbuy a motorcycle

This was a message is originally from some body just to see how stupid people are.

exactly, 1 day will not hurt them. like jezter said, buy gas the day before or buy it after, but that still gets them more than enough money to make up for one days loss. psychic is right. its not the short 1day boycott, its the prolonged boycott of gas. but like i said, the gas stations only hike up the prices when the cost of refining goes up. if the refineries change an arm and aleg to the gas companies, then the gas companies must increase prices to make up for the rise in their put of pocket cost.

I still think its a good idea not to buy gas that day.If for no other reason just to try and make a point in a market where you really have no other voice.

Well, not buying gas on one particular day will have zero effect except for the pump jockey who will have an easier day. Since you're still consuming the same amount of fuel every week. That doesn't make it much of a boycott. The only way to get the oil companies attention is to reduce your overall consumption.
