KMT400 chipset ? wtf are you talking about ?

So now you going to tell me what chipsest I have ? lmfaoTo correct you, my MB has nForce 2 chipset that are made by Nvidia.and the comparisons go by typical setups.

I dont even know why I argue about this, go ahead go buy your 300 dollar P4 and have fun with it.

I think that using these pieces of software to test benchmarks and compare them to other systems is flawed. I don't believe one can use this test as an accurate comparison of how many times faster one's computer is than another's.

For example: The SiSoftware Sandra test is considered by ExtremeTech to be only good for memory testing. My problem with this is that this software doesn't accurately take into account memory timings, which matters a great deal when playing a game like Quake 3 for example.

And as far as the AMD vs. Intel argument: to each his own

I agree about the Intel vs AMD statement.About benchmarking, I used few diffrent programs.

LOL...yeah, what the hell happened to this thread?

I thought an automotive forum would be the last place I'd encounter the tired Intel vs. AMD "debates". Can't we just argue about SR vs KA-T? ;)

hey gator: your system listed is flawed if you ask me. are those specs for a PC built by a retailer, or a friend, or did you pick those parts out yourself? I don't know anything about your motherboard specifficaly, but I personally stay away from onboard graphics and onboard sound. I feel it is better to get brand name cards for those purposes. your system will be too rigid for playing games, if you plan on doing that kind of stuff. if not, then onboard sound/video will do. everything else looks ok, but does that price include a monitor? cuz that seems pretty high price to pay for an average system.

A computer place is going to build it.I'm not really a PC gamer. The main thing i plan on doing is dl mp3's ,mixing and creating music.watching some tv,and short movies.so you definately recomend like a soundblaster type sound card?that doesnt include a monitor because I'm getting a 19'' from best buy.

yeah. get a sound card. If you get an onboard soundcard it will use up some of the cpu. Soundblaster is always a safe bet to go with. Cheap and good.

As far as soundcards go, I've had my eye on the M-Audio Revolution. Very high quality sound card. There was some talk about a performance hit since the card passes alot of the processing work on to the CPU, but if you aren't gaming you won't need every ounce of your CPU to keep the latest Doom game chugging along at a nice framerate.

M-Audio also makes quite a few pro cards. Of course, Soundblaster is fine if you aren't going really hardcore in to the audio side of things OR you're a big PC gamer.

ok well speed is starting to get to the point where it doesnt matter 3ghz will be pritty damn close to 3.5 because of the data bus with.. or whatever.. there are only so many wires that the info can travle on.. so anyways.. ive always used AMD, back in the day i had a pentum system and it had over heating problems. and AMD is way cheaper and i replace my system every 1 - 2 years so for me AMD is the way to go.. now if u like pentium and u have the money for it go for it.. the clock speed is faster.. but does it make that much of a diffrece? not really.. your harddrive is gonna slow u down more then anything, and if u have the money for SCSI well then go u :)... but anyways i use my systems for non leagle things, that im not gonna talk about.. ive been doing it for years and thats what i enjoy. i dont play games, i just mess with appz and such. so vid isnt importent to me... but i do want a fast dvd drive (fast at ripping) and a good processor for encoading (AMD is better for this) and somthing fast for decompressing rar'd files.. (7200RPM drives) so i think for my use this computer will do just fine ;)

no monitor? in that case you are spending too much for that system with all the integrated onboard stuff and some cheap a$$ drives IMHO.

Heres what I need.

Motherboard -

Graphics Card -

Instead of going with the 2 MB Cache HD, try one of the 8 MB caches...not too big of a difference in price. It makes a difference...don't you know that "Cache moves everything around ME!!!!"

RAID is never a bad idea either IMO. But, all your hard drives need to be the same size...or you're just wasting even more space.

I just built a new AMD system with the 2500+ Barton core (512KB cache) and an MSI motherboard with a ton of options ($230 for motherboard and processor from AccuPC.com - check them out) and have had NO problems with anything.

Also used a Coolermaster solid copper heat sink with heat pipes. According to Tom's Hardware, it was the coolest, but I have to warn you...it's kind of loud.

I really like Antec stuff (power supplies AND cases). I recently bought an Antec TruePower power supply, and it rocks. It's quiet and VERY well built. I've never had a problem with Antec stuff.

I don't know what other components you will be using, but if you're building a hardcore gaming machine, I'd go with nothing less than a GOOD 400 watt power supply. It's always nice to have a little extra power for that next upgrade too.

I believe the P4's all now require an ATX12V power supply. You could probably search around on the Intel site for power requirements if you wanted to. I know my TruePower 330W came with the funky 12v connector I didn't need. :)
