We went to the Nissan dealer to look at the Titan as a replacement for the F-150, but I didn't like the interior of the Titan. We were about to walk out of the dealership when the kids started playing inside this little car on the showroom floor. I looked inside and it seemed roomy, so I sat in the driver's seat and found one of the few small cars into which I could fit comfortably. We asked to take a test drive. They only had one other Versa in stock, besides the one on the showroom floor, so we drove that one and fell in love with it. We went home, decided we wanted it, and bought the Super Black SL with the beige interior the next day. The F-150 just sits in the driveway now. Occasionally a neighbor will borrow it to haul some stuff. Even though the Expedition has all the bells and whistles, including the DVD player, the kids prefer the Versa. Whenever we need to go out they ask if we can take the black car. When we need to go somewhere with what my wife considers dangerous traffic (a result of the idiots who frequent the roads in South Florida), she wants to take "The Tank" (i.e. the Expedition). However, I actually feel safer in the Versa because I know that I can maneuver it in a way I can't maneuver the Expedition without risking a rollover. With the six airbags and strong passenger compartment the Versa seems pretty safe to me.
I can attest to that safety.
Go search for "Pics of damage to EV's versa" a couple pages down... it will have pics of the damage to the rear and front of my Versa.
I was hit from behind by a Ford F150 (modified for construction work) and thrown into a Suburban. Both vehicles weighed at LEAST double what the V does, and I not only walked away from the crash myself (almost completely unhurt, no less!), but was even able to drive the Versa to the body shop without calling a tow truck!
Mind you, I was at a dead stop and the Ford hit me doing 20-25 mph.. that is a SERIOUS impact there. It's amazing how these things are designed.
