I live in Sacto and i have taken my I30 to 2 different shops who were unable to diagnose the problems. One place was call Hi-Tech Auto on Power Inn Rd. who even claimed to be Nissan specialists. The other shop i went to was by Sac City College called H&R Automotive who had no idea how to even work on a VQ30DE.

I know the dealership is a viable option, but damn its expensive.

Anyone know of a good shop that i can take my I30 to??

Thanks

I am a Nissan tech in the sac area. From what I have seen come to us after some of the aftermarket places got a hold of them I dont personaly recommend going to them. Whats wrong with the car? The car is no different then a maxima of the same year so your mot limited to just infiniti dealers.

How much did the aftermarket shop want to/or did charge you to diagnose it?

On very cold mornings after i start the car i have to give it a couple pumps of gas to keep it running, but after that it runs fine. And when the car is in gear and i have pressure on the breaks it idles rough, but this is intermittent.

Infiniti of Elk Grove charges $127 to diagnose it. I usually get a diagnosis then buy used parts at NOW and have them put on at the shop.

Any thoughts Nistech?

Thanks

Sounds to me like you either have a congested idle air system[carbon build up restricting the passages] or your base idle is set to low. Check engine light on? If so, What codes do you have?

If it is congestion of the passages, A properly performed fuel induction service usually helps clear that up.

I work for a Nissan dealer and we charge $110 initial diagnosis. Your welcome to bring your car to us. We are right next door to the infiniti dealer you just mentioned.

There are other ways to diagnose a car other then codes..lol The only requirement is it needs to actually be in a failing state most of the time to diagnose.

I dont have access to the information on the website. Its usually best to phone in for an appointment rather then using the site. I think the site just plugs you in at opening time. You should call on wednesday to confirm your appointment and which advisor you want your appointment with. They log these appointments on the white board in the service area and will put the advisor number next to your name if you have requested a specific advisor. Otherwise you get sat down with who ever is available. Each advisor has 4 to 6 techs for him/her. My advisor is John.

Pretty sure I found and fixed your problem today. Going to recheck it in the morning and make sure.

John will call you with the details tomorrow. I gave him a list of things you should probably address soon.

If you get there to pick it up tomorrow before 6pm be sure to see me about the list.Wait till he calls you though before coming down so your not standing around waiting for your paperwork.

Share with us what Scott was able to find that other less trained eyes weren't able to find. Scott helped me out a while back with a great email explanation of the Q45 emission control system. It led me right to the source of the problem I'd been stumped over for months.

ok first get the motor clean before bringing it in so we can try to isolate what and where the leaks are coming from.

The list goes like thisSaftey items first.1. Bald tire2. Replace warn lower control arm.3. Replace worn out power steeing rackMechanical needs.1.A/C compressor pulley bearing or compressor assembly2.Idler pulley3.Replace heater core and remove the bypass thats currently installed.

Less severe needs which I didnt price parts on for you.Having the hood stay up on its own would be a BIG plus. But I am sure you know that if you been under it..lolthen your basic stuff going on with the bumper ,lights in it.

Actually What I found goes to prove my point why after market shops in my area arn't the best. His base idle screw was completely screwed in. Therefore in the mornings when it started up it had no where near the correct mixture and would stall some times several times unless you gave it gas. When I used consult to put it in base idle mode it just stalled. I had to find a nice medium with the adjustment before I could even set it. I also ran a complete diag scan before I touched anything. Once it warmed up all his alpha readings and o2 sensor operation looked pretty good. He had the usual knock sensor code, which by the way Sam I would put that in the lower end of the mechanical needs. The car actually runs fairly well just has some stability issues when going down the road, and a few leaks.

Nistech,

Im sorry to keep bugging you with my questions, but which lower ball joint needs to be replaced? In the process of getting parts...

Thanks,

Sam

Its not the lower ball joint , its the lower control arm. on the left side as I recall. The rear bushing that is part of the lower control arm has come apart and is barly holding the control arm in place. So dont just go after the ball joint or your problem will still exist. The ball joint itself is fine.

Thanks for clarifying with me Scott.Today i was looking locally for the part, but the guy at the parts counter stumped me. He asked me if it was for the front or rear.Which leads me to my next question... Do I need the part for the front or rear??Im pretty sure this is my last question.

Thanks again,

sam
