so i have this problem, the lights in my gauge cluster dont work. to be specific, the main lights dont work. only the turn signals, battery, engine, and hi beams work. the gas, temp, clock, and tachometer lights dont light up. i checked the fuses and they all seemed okay. is it possible that they are powered from something else? *fwiw this is a digital cluster and the speedo doesnt work.

also, my HVAC (is that how its spelled?) doesnt light up. only the controls that adjusts the fan speed and the hot/cold lights up. just thought id throw that in if anybody got ideas.

so if anybody can give me advice. thanks!!!

^ um no

There's a little white box next to the fuse box in the driver side footwell. Its called the tsu if im not mistaken, and that's probably what went bad and is causing your lights, cluster and hvac not to work/illuminate. For more info go to 240sx tech and in that section you should b able to find a link on your cluster not working. I can't link you now because im posting from my phone but I had this problem with my 93 hatch I replaced the box with 1 from my coupe, replaced a couple of fuses also and now they work.

Check that little white box (TCU timing control unit), driver side footwell.

Tcu - timing control unithttp://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread/158162

If that's not the problem... this could be. Bad headlight switch.zerothread?id=322068

I experienced a bad headlight switch. I had no brake, instrument and dash lights. The only thing I did have were headlights.

Hope this helps.

I just bought my 93 240sx coupe yesterday and it has the same problem too. dashboard light, odo, trip, and speedo don't work but other climate control, hazard, and cruise control buttons have light though. I opened up the TCU and it "seems" like it didn't burn out. anybody has any idea?

check the fuses by the kick panel. But you should "look" at the box for it to seem blown. You should actually replace it. Have any friends with 240's?

I plugged out a few fuses such as the head-up display and meter and gauge ones. they are not burnt though.I read that article about soldering a jumper wire over the burned part.unfortunately my friends drive FF such as eclipse and prelude.

Try jumping it. If it dosent work its probably your cluster.

that's exactly what i read. i may go track down the wire and the circuit later in the day.before doing that, i still have one question. if the trace is burned out, wouldn't the climate control knobs not have the light too?

Don't 4get were not ruling out the fact that your cluster could've gone bad. These checks are just lest inexpensive and easier to do b4 swapping a cluster in and that wasn't the problem

i tried to take the whole cluster out and see if the harness are not plugged well but then I failed. I couldn't get the dash cover out from the wheel..

I have a some what similar problem. My speedo sometimes doesn't work and sometimes it flickers on and off. Same kind of thing happens when I'm night driving, except the entire cluster light goes out along with the speedo and the HUD.

the seller told me that it worked 2 weeks agoshe went to the shop and fix the speed sensor but the HUD as well as the dashboard light still went off.so after reading a couple posts, i believe it's either bad power supply, cluster, or TCU.

I think it's just loose wiring. I'll have to pull the gauges, disconnect and reconnect the wires, and then throw it back in and hope for the best. If that doesn't work, I'll replace the fuse. If all of that fails, I'll convert to analog or get a new digital cluster.

do you think converting it to analog will solve the dash light problem too?but converting to analog requires the harness for analog cluster, which is pretty hard to findmy friend just told me to use the GPS as a speedo for now, oh well..

neither Iit sounds a bit lame but at least i have a "general" idea about how fast the car is going. now the problem is, is the charger's cable long enough? you know the cigarette lighter is kind of far away from the windshield.

oh and another thing, my odometer doesnt work either. is that because the HUD is broken? or maybe the speed sensor gear broke?

*update*tcu, cluster harness, and analog cluster coming in soon.
