They usually go out. No way around it, but to replace with a new one or replace with an analog unit + harness. The speedo sensor can be checked w/ a volt meter according to the FSM.

well, see the thing is is that its stopped at 21,002 miles. -_- ill try plug in the new cluster when it gets here and hope that it works normal...

if not, next thing to look into is the speed sensor, right?

Yep, check the VSS (vehicle speed sensor). Check it with a multimeter. The resistance between the two terminals (the plug end) should be approx. 250 ohms.

You'll have to remove the vss from the transmission to check the voltage.

To measure voltage across the two terminals, spin the pinion (red one if it's from a 91-94, not sure on the 89-90) quickly and measure the voltage. You should read .5 volts A/C. If not, then it's bad.

If your HUD doesnt work your odo isnt going to work either so dont bother probing things. Whenever my hud on my first car decided to work... it started counting miles, if it didnt turn on, no miles to count.

So it differs from an analog unit? My analog speedometer went out, but the trip odo kept going. So, I assumed that it went out and not the vss.

There you go x3rikaa... get yourself an analog unit. They last longer, but minedecided to take a poop.

well i have both but only one is for sale at the moment and i know for sure it works my hud cluster and everything for the swap for 200. Cluster, wiring/plugs, and the dash readout. I guess ill post my analog for sale when i take it out in the future. DIdnt know ppl really wanted those things.

something weird happened to me a couple days agomy odo meter started working but the speedo was still offoh well...

Sure are. Just replaced my speedometer gauge. Works fine now. Theodo works , but the speedometer would read 90mph while doing 40mph. Crazy... huh??
