So, I have a 2019, and to be honest, the CVT was an attractive feature of buying the car. It didn't really sway my opinion, but I did like it.

Why all the hate? Is it a performance thing or a reliability thing?

From everything I've read, the more recent years, I'm assuming that means 2019 and 2020, they're doing a lot better (of course, that could be just because there hasn't been enough time to get the mileage up).

Nissan Jatco cvt’s are a crapshoot.

They either last for many years with no problems or transmission failure after a couple years.

Don’t know about the newest ones.

Of course the ones complaining here usually had their cvt blow up on them, :slap:

okay...so more a reliability issue. Like I said, from what I read (probably fake news...ha ha), the newer ones are better.

But thank you.

SNIP...
When you get a moment read the comments people left here: POLL: Would You Buy Another Nissan?

Here's another thread worth reading: I AM DONE WITH THIS BRAND!!!--- Rant!

The CVT's in the 08, 09 and 10's were really problematic, so much so that Nissan had to extend the warranty on them. Nissan recommends that the CVT fluid be checked every 30k miles. The engine is pretty solid, so I can't recall any major issues that need tending to. Otherwise most everything you'll need to know can be found under this heading: 08-13 ROGUE DIY REPAIRS & MAINTENANCE, FAQ & INFO, TIPS, etc

Oh thought it was a car enthusiast thing. But if the majority of problems were on early years, I’m good. Thank you.

I would like to happily interject that I am on my original cvt transmission from 2009.

But if I knew then what I do now, I probably drain & fill my cvt fluid every 30,000 miles from the get go.

Moreover, it’s so damn easy to do on the first generation; more so than a regular oil change. :domo:

Our original CVT (09 Rogue) with factory cooler failed 2 months after the 10 year warranty expired at 135,000kms. There were no signs or symptoms of its impending doom(rattles/whine/etc) just grenaded itself. CVT fluid was changed at 104000km.

My first Nissan it was a '09 maxima I owned it from 2014 to 2017 and it was fine I sold it at 125k miles
But now I have a 2018 rogue and I am already seeing problems with it. The CVT just started being rough and loud and now I am seeing check engine light related to CVT, also having accelerating issues. I think I will be done with Nissan after this car when my lease is up :)

I can give some advice: I owned a 2016 Rogue and currently own a 2019 Rogue. The CVT on the 2016 was problem free for me for the 109k miles we had it. The 2019 Rogue we have currently, the CVT already started giving signs that it is slipping and our mileage is under 10k miles on it. Talk about reliability on a newer vehicle! This is more of a reliability issue than performance issue.
