If you are going to the trouble to take the pan off, I would change the screen. The screen looks like a pain to clean and it is cheap.

The fluid is a whole 'nother story. If the label says it, I'm good using it. I know some people are "dealer only", but Nissan doesn't make oil or transmission fluid or gear oil or batteries or spark plugs or lots of other pieces/parts that go into a vehicle. Same for any other vehicle maker. I have a VW Touareg and a poster on a Touareg board says if you can't afford OEM and dealer service then don't buy/own a "$60,000 luxury German SUV". I routinely poke the bear with him when I show off my Amazon or ebay purchase for it. Good Lort! :chuckle:

OK so don't run the pump without the cooler running back to the pump. Can I remove both hoses to the cooler, maybe blow air with my mouth then try to fill back up with tiny funnel?

The screen honestly I'm not finding one that for certain fits at either of the parts stores nearby. Reviews on both that auto zone and advance have "DOESN'T FIT ROGUE!" sprinkled in

31728-1XF02 for FWD, 31728-1XF03 for AWD. Use the OE p/n for googling, that's the best way to get the right stuff.

Hey V
This should make you laugh, as I cry.

My wife's Rogue has been making a loud noise for some time, and a mechanic friend suggested that it might be the wheel hubs. He didn't have a lift, so he couldn't confirm it. Having all the transmission oils, seal, filter, etc and all ready to go, I was set to do it this Sunday or so.
We took the car to a nearby mechanic that drove it and lifted it up, to confirm that the transmission is in bad shape. s***.
He confirmed that it isn't the wheel hubs, and that the transmission and 2 support arms are faulty.

Getting it replaced, used, will cost around $5k he said, and he also suggested that I contact Nissan to perhaps squeeze a new one from them.
So, he suggested that we sell the car as is, and get a new one, which was in my wife's plans for 6 months from now.

I'm shocked and pissed and agghhhhhhh

thanks for reading

EDIT - now to try to return everything.....even the Eneos oil

I dunno what you mean by "support arms", but if you mean the mounts, a whole set is about $100 on eBay and none of them are a very hard job. CVT belts don't make noise even when they're failing, and the diff section on Jatcos isn't typically what dies, so I'd be a little suspicious of that diagnosis. They do get noisy when the fluid goes to crap, so maybe you want to hold off on sending it back.

If you do need a transmission, there are used ones all over eBay for $1000~1500, and there's no way labor is $3500. We have guys here who can kick one out in 5~6 hours, and book is probably 10 hours. Even at dealer rates that's $2K, so for a used piece, that price is a rip. FYI, you can get a Nissan factory reman online for about $3K, and if it's delivered to a local dealer instead of your house, you can usually avoid any shipping charges.

PS - I just checked with one of our SA's, and our done-deal parts & labor price on most reman CVT's is $6000~$6500. So draw your own conclusions about $5000 for a used one.

Dear NIcoClub friends

I write to vent, that's right, to vent.

After putzing around with the second transmission oil change for my wife's 16 Rogue since October or so, I was finally ready to do it.
I asked member @VStar650cl 650 questions, bought 2 different types of Eneos oil that I could find, bought the pan gasket, inside screen and the outside filter both from Nissan and Amazon; I would return what I didn't use obviously. I also went to Harbor Freight to get a longer breaker bar.

For some time, my wife complained of a loud noise when she drove. We took it to a retired mechanic friend, and upon a quick audio inspection, he suggested that it could be the wheel hubs. But the car needs to be lifted and properly diagnosed, and so we did. This other mechanic drove it, lifted it up, and accelerated with it lifted. He ruled out the wheel hubs, and pointed to a faulty transmission. Our jaws dropped because of that that implies. Minutes later I thought about all the planning I had done for the oil change...

I lifted the car up yesterday on 2 jacks, spun the front wheels freely, and I didn't hear any noise nor did the wheels have any play in any direction.

What's next? Well, she's looking at other cars because getting a rebuilt transmission installed will cost about as much as the car is worth, we were told; I sold my 15 Rogue to CarMax in January, and got $7k for it. Her 16 perhaps can fetch $8k.

EDIT - Carmax quoted $10.6k for it

The 2nd mechanic was very forthright and honest and left the decision to us, obviously.
Are we jumping the gun here? The car has been well kept, only has 72k miles, and was going to be inherited by my daughter. Mistakenly, I did many oil changes, but only ONE transmission oil change back at 42k miles. So, one could say that the transmission issue could be my lack of love and care for it.

Do we price out a new transmission? From Nissan?
Or do I have it rebuilt?

Aghhhhhhhhhhhhh

thank you

on one hand - 72kmiles total, fluid partial replacement at 42kmiles is pretty ok, though - you live down south so... yeah, could have cooked it (again - how it has been driven etc).

but what kind of noise? can you surely replicate? is car awd or fwd?
p.s. carmax quoted 10.6k WITH information about needing transmission or without? :D

My 09 cvt fluid was never changed, I didn’t know any better and the dealer told me it didn’t need it. 95k and it started howling on a work trip coming back from Stlouis. I was under extended warranty so Nissan replaced it. That cvt now has over 100k on it as does my 18 rogue. I change all 4 of my Nissans cvt fluid every spring which amounts to a few hrs work and $150. No guarantees it’ll stop the trans from crapping out, but it should stave off the preventable malfunctions.

@VStar650CL, anyone,
Can someone please help me. I can't figure out what's the part # of the number 7 on the photo below. I need this part # for my 2021 Nissan Rogue AWD.
VIN #JN8AT3DD3MW300634

I have the part# 31526-3VX0A but it doesn't fit my Rogue.

Thank you

The GE series transmission in your '21 doesn't have the filter where that diagram shows, it's underneath the beehive like the old '10A tran-nies. The '21 beehives are unique, and as far as I know you need to buy the whole beehive to get the factory o-rings. The one and only time I went through this with a customer, he ended up matching-up a viton ring from the parts store.

FWIW, my filter didn’t come with an Oring so I reused the old which was in like new shape. That was 30k ago.
