Greg and I took off to Prescott for the weekend to escape the heat and enjoy a car show of a different breed. The Annual Corvette Show was held Saturday, Sept. 18th in Prescott. The whole Corvette scene is very new to me, so I'm not familiar with who does what in the club, but whoever was in charge of this event did a fantastic job. It was well-organized from start to finish: no rushing, no mishaps, no untied loose ends. We had a fantastic time and made some great new friends. I can't wait for next year so we can go back again!

View from the hotel room. The Hampton Inn was really nice. Clean, comfortable, and great customer service. Prescott is a beautiful part of AZ. If you ever get the opportunity to go, I highly recommend it. It reminds me a lot of the town I used to live in, lots of grass and trees and a very mild climate. Top temps are usually in the mid-80s.
Image

On to the good stuff. I am still new to the Corvette scene so there aren't a lot of captions on these pictures. I am still learning the different models, what years they were produced, their characteristics and quirks, etc. If you have any specific questions, just ask and I'll see what I can find out. As always, I'm putting my favorites up for display, the link to the complete Photobucket album will be at the end. Enjoy! :dblthumb:

I was really amazed. It seemed like there were more newer cars than classics at this show. Something I did notice, the absence of trailers. These people drive their cars. :bigthumb: Even the guy with the '54 drove to the show. I would have been like this -----> :ohno:

No kidding. People were actually very laid-back.

Of course, there's always the occasional weirdo at any show... Like the guy parked near us that had a 2010 Z06 - he sat out in the sun ALL DAY right next to his car so he could "answer questions" and encourage people to vote for his car. Retarded.

Definitely an "older" crowd, too. Bex and I were the youngsters of the group... VERY different from a NICO meet!

many of the guys around here with C6 Z06's are in their late 20's-early 30's. Most of them are cammed with I/H/E/ and nitrous or supercharged.

My uncles has a classic vette.
He's had at his mom house/garage since they gave it too him as a graduation present.
I've been bothering/begging him to at least get it running again, or give it to me.
This reminds me I go to bother him some more about it...brb.

Since you're already raining on the parade I might as well post a pic of mine. It's an '82 Shark Special Edition which was the last of the C3's and the last of the high wheel-well body styles.

We have car shows pretty much every weekend out here. September 1st was movie cars, here's a few phone pics. The 2 Vettes are a '68 Stingray(my dad used to have one) and a '66. both phenomenal rides.

Interesting enough I see mostly older guys driving Corvettes. I don't know why a Vette would appeal to an elderly guy but hey, whatever row's your boat. . .

It has to do with the Vette legacy. Corvettes have been a part of these guys lives ever since they can remember. It was a lot of their first cars as well so there's a sentiment that's matched by none. I don't think I've ever seen anyone my age driving a Vette like mine. It's usually some old overweight dude just having fun and enjoying a work of art.

At our car shows it's all about owners meeting other owners in parking lots. They're organized and sometimes have themes but always super friendly. You can walk right up to an LF-A, Zonda, Alpha 8C, Enzo, etc and rap with the owner.

I bought mine for a different reason (cheap ridiculous performance), but honestly, how many cars have a near-60-year continuous heritage?

I can't think of any American cars with that distinction.

I'm kinda surprised more 30-somethings DON'T own a C5. My all-time favorite is a '69 Convertible, black with red interior... It's also a car I'll likely never own. :(

Hopefully I can get back in school, after my surgery. My plan is to finish school, get in to the rad. tech. field as an MRI tech., work for a few years, and buy a C6 Z06.
Hopefully all goes according to plan

Ewwww.... C3s. The last couple of years of those were about as ugly as ugly can get. And not enough C2s!

Wouldn't mind owning a Corvette myself. Especially the C5/C6 range. Not "classics" yet, but supreme driving machines in their own right.

You realize that the C3 went from '68-'82 right? I've never heard anyone say "Ewwww.... C3's." I guess mine is "...as ugly as ugly can get."

Yeah in my experience corvette owners are *usually* the most uptight of car owners, followed very closely by rear-engined Porsche owners(914 excluded)

MKIV Supra owners still reign supreme though.

I like Ford owners personally.

Not even close.

Supra and Porsche owners take that cake, followed closely by lifted diesel truck owners. I've never met a MkIV owner that I liked, and don't get me started on the clowns in Boxsters... :rotfl

The crowd we met this weekend was pretty cool.

My "least favorite" Corvettes: early C4's, late C3's, and believe it or not, I'm no fan of the C2. I'd love to have a 68-72 convertible OR a late C1...

I really enjoy our C5. I installed SS longtube headers, a catted x-pipe, and a titanium catback (from a Z06) a couple weeks back and was pretty impressed with how well-engineered the car is. Nice to work on something that gives you room to maneuver a wrench! :)
