Ok. I got my hood today (VIS Racing OE Style) and it looks soooooo friggen sweet. You just look into the CF and you get lost and your eyes go crossed.

Here's my question. I've had no doubt that I was going to paint the hood in order for it to look right on my car (ALL white: rims, side mirrors, everything). But, this CF looks damn good. I still think it would stick out too much on my car, but I dunno. Here's the photo of my hood. I can't give you an image of it on my car, since the TOOLS at the body shop still haven't fixed it (almost 2 1/2 weeks now.)

Paint or no.

I say paint it cause you dont have anything else thats black for it to match do you? Plus a bare CF hood is a bit overdone. I like that sleeper look as well.

Let me see if i understand you, you bought a beautiful carbon fiber hood and you are going to paint it?!! Why would you drop the coin just to cover it up with paint? Lightness, you could have got a fiberglass one, style, nobody will know or care that it's carbon if you cover it with paint. Seems like a waste to me.

Well, given my options here in the states, the CF was the only choice for an aftermarket s13 silvia hood. My car isn't really JDM TyTe, so I didn't purchase the CF hood for 'style'. I purchased it because mine was smashed and it is lighter than stock. I couldn't really find any fiberglass ones that were any cheaper for my car.

just leave it as is, carbon fibre will make you car look more getting-down-to-buisness like, if you know what i mean...

also, can i ask where you got it from? i would like to get one as well and im too lazy to look for people who sell them.

I would vote paint it. You car is one of the sleekest looking S13s i have seen. It looks great with the all white.

Put it on un-painted and give it a week or two.

I say paint it...only cause it would look better cause u dont have much else black. CF looks really nice, but you dont need to show it, i mean. when u open ur hood for people they'll know u have CF. and that all white thing you have going is sweet ***.

leave it carbon fiber you car will have a meaner and more unique look. whos going to know you care about your cars looks and performance if you cover it up with paint. it would be like putting a bra on your car to cover up the silvia front end.

well if thats the case then paint it. the other how menched to paint it had a point, "if you don't have anything black on your car, then why leave it?" the whole "lets leave all CF parts unpainted" is just as bad as an unpainted body kit (IMO). lets look at it like this when you see a car drive by wit a unpainted fiberglass hood of front bumper everyone says it's rice, but if they seen a car drive by wit a carbon fiber front bumper or a carbon fiber hood, its' automatically considered "phat!". one is just as bad as the other. another scenerio is cars that come wit carbon fiber parts as stock such as the R34 specII skyline, lamborghini, mclaren, F50, envo, etc. they all come with carbon fiber parts that are painted. no one critices them at all. you don't see skyline owners or lambo owners running out to body shops asking them to remove the paint to show that they have CF parts. they are painted.

leaving body parts unpainted is tacky to me. i say paint it.

Leave it. Ive seen your car in person and i think it would look nice wit the carbon fiber hood. There is no point in buying a carbon fiber hood if your going to paint it. Some people will say it weighs less, true but your car isnt a race car the 10 extra pounds you save isnt going to make that much of a difference, especially at $600. And also you dont have to have any black on your car for the carbon fiber hood to look good, the hood will contrast very nicely with the car, and give the car more attitude.

I just think the unpainted carbon fiber thing is played out bad. I didnt like it when it started and still am not to fond of it. I do agree that it is kinda cool to stare at, but that gets old.

a carbon fiber hood really isnt supposed to be painted, unless its on a a race car or something like that. Thats the whole point of putting a carbon fiber hood on your car because it looks good. But no offense, that syour opinion and i respect it, just as unpainted is my opinion

if we didn't have opinions the world would be a very dull place. thats why i think he should do what he thinks is best its hard to get opinions from others, because everyone looks at it differently.
