Absolutely amazing attention to detail on that rear sub frame. I am subscribing to this thread so I can copy your steps for the rear end revival.

thank you sir, more to come! sourced the t28 from my man Ray at West Covina Nissan, $640.00 brand new shipped out the door! by far the cheapest price I've seen around, hit him up!
Niice! you just saved me $80 :dblthumb:

Because when I drove it, it didn't impress me at all, even compared to my stock RB20 with a side mount lol.

But yeah, hit he up when ever. I have my engine hoist in storage, and it will be at the house soon.

haha yeah I know what you mean. It was the first boosted car I had ever driven, so when I took it out for a spin with Nick before I bought it, I thought it was the fastest thing ever! I think ultimately there were a lot of loose ends that were preventing the SR20 work to it's full potential when you drove it. I personally still think it's quick, haha but maybe it might impress you when I'm done with it!

will do! and thx man. yeah it's nice to have a place to wrench...the storage unit I have has absolutely no power or lighting inside, so that's a definite bummer, but it's safe from the elements and dry so I'm happy with that...can't wait to get a place of my own with a decent garage though!

DO IT! sometimes I wonder if it just would have been easier to get a s13 shell and start from a clean slate. I mean when a car is completely stripped down you can see just how solid it is, and then do everything from the ground up vs. dumping more money cleaning up after somebody elses neglect/mistakes and THEN finally getting to build it how you want.

i had a s13 shell, s13 DD, s14 DD, and now the rb25 s14 DD. i definitely want a cleaner shell with less miles and start everything from scratch. im looking for a s14 shell now so hopefully i can start my project in the spring :)

that gloss por 15 looks hardcore too. if i didnt powdercoat my parts i would have done that...prob cheaper too and just as solid of a finish. looking forward to updates and now im subscribed.
Wow, thanks so much for the props man, that truely means a lot! haha oh yeah I stocked up on like 8 cans of the duplicolor stuff last spring when it was buy 1 get 1 free so it wasn't too bad, I need a d*** discount at Advance as much as I shop there! Yeah I feel you on the chassis repair deal, the passenger section on my car was smashed by a previous owner, so at some point down the road I will be doing the same deal as you are. To be honest I definitely would have went with powdercoat if I had the funds, especially after seeing how well your parts came out! Like you said, the POR15 is pretty hXc and is comparable to the strength of powdercoat and only costs like $65, but it is SO labor intensive with the prep and application...definitely for the budget minded build though! haha

OK, sooo not much of an update but I figured I'd post some pics up for you hooligans. Aside from the usual socks and underwear, my family hooked me up with some cool schwag for Christmas this year

Circuit Sports aluminum light weight pulleys, for added flair in the bay of course haha
Image

Circuit Sports aluminum coolant overflow tank (heard mixed reviews on fitment so we will see, overall very nice piece though)

Circuit Sports BMC heat shield (probably covering in DEI reflect-a-gold for added protection)
Image

and last but not least, NRG Radiator Diversion Panel

Pretty stoked, since now I have some nice dress up pieces for the engine bay when everything is all said and done! I also recieved a 1,000lb capacity harbor freight engine stand from my sister, it looks pretty beasty just from what I saw when I opened the box to check it out. I took it over to my dad's garage (where I will be rebuilding the SR) yesterday, so I will put a pic up when I put it together. As of right now I've been checkin out the CXRacing intercooler piping kit, definitely heard a lot of good things about their kits, and for like $89 it looks great!

I was just curious...I saw that you're using air tools right? What air compressor are you using (make, hp, gallon size, etc.)?

Sorry for thread jacking but I have had 2 compressors now. The first one was a little 5gal. one from autozone that my dad bought. It had 2 tanks on it and was small but it worked and costs practically nothing. It just kicked on all the time. Now I have a craftsman 35gal. and that thing works really well. If I was looking to buy a new compressor, I would go up to harbor freight and get a 60 or 80. I think they are usually around 4-600 with an extended warranty so keep that in mind if your looking for a compressor.

On another note...I think I may have to stop by harbor freight to pick up that wire wheel.

I think you will be happy with the coolant tank tho. I have seen a few of them installed and they look like they have good fit. I just wish someone would make one for s14's...I guess thats another custom job.

Keep it up

thanks bro! well I'm a big fan of Craftsman tools, so that's what brand most of my stuff is! As far as my air compressor goes, it's a Craftsman
33 gal.
150 PSI max output
1.6 HP oil-less compressor
6.3 scfm of flow @ 40psi
4.9 scfm of flow @ 90psi

It's a few years old, but ever since I've had it, it has NEVER let me down. The compressor on my model is slower compared to the older version, and now newer version of the same model for some reason. Usually takes about 8 minutes or so to fill the tank from completely empty, not that bad considering the amount of air it has to compress against when filling. I can do some pretty intense torque sessions w/ a beasty impact, and it won't even kick on during the whole time! It's nice to have a 33 gal. reserve when using a variety of tools at the same time. I suggest if you're going to invest in a compressor, you should atleast go w/ something 25 gal. and up...

haha no worries on the thread jack, it's all usable info for somebody! be cautious of the HF wire wheels though man (didnt even know they sold them) I know there's not a whole lot that could go wrong with them, but when somethin is spinning around on a grinder at 12k RPM's, you want to have good piece of mind that it was put together with some quality control. and I'm def not knocking HF either as I have used some of their stuff, including my engine stand haha, you should be fine just make sure the wheels look legit! thanks for the info on the resevoir, hoping it fits like a glove when the time comes!

OK, so a few things...

this past weekend, things were UNSEASONABLY warm outside this time of year for good ol' Ohio. haha it was seriously like 52 deg outside, when usually we're in the low 20's and teens. enough weather talk though, as the fact of the matter is after boozing all night Friday for New Years, I made my way to the storage unit mid day Saturday to knock some stuff out and take advantage of the warm temps! I started and ran the car for the LAST time, then pulled the fuel pump fuse to relieve the fuel pressure and get as much outta the lines as possible...drained the oil, antifreeze, and trans fluid, went pretty well.

Image

Sunday def wasn't as warm, but still decent outside. I didn't do much haha but I started to remove stuff some stuff out in prep to pull the motor. Took out the radiator, cooling fans, intake, and intercooler piping in the bay.

just a pic of how it looked after
Image

Well that's it for that. In other news, after being enlightened in a thread I started over in the SR20 forum, I've decided that I'm not going to upgrade cams when I rebuild. I'm just going to rebuild the motor as planned (stick with the t28 and Tomei manifold setup) and then next year, do all the proper supporting mods to make decent HP (Z32 MAF, bigger injectors, tune-possibly Power FC?) and then drop in some cams and have a nice setup that's fun for the weekend car meet. When everything is back together after I rebuild it, I just plan on running the t28 off it's wastegated 7lbs of boost, so the stock ECU should be able to handle things as far as A/F management goes for the time being.

on another note, here is a pic of the CXRacing piping kit I'm looking to buy, then have the flange for my 50mm Tial bov welded on the cold pipe for a more proper setup
Image

I know a lot of other SR guys on here have used this kit, fitment isn't bad and I think it looks good (hot pipe looks a little goofy) annnd it only costs like $89! haha I just dunno if I should go with blue or black couplers. blue might look tacky in my bay, I think black might be a happy medium... :gapteeth:

yeah after a little thought, I think I am going to go with black couplers. problem solved! haha and omg dude yeah you weren't kidding, it's been ridiculously cold here ever since that warm weekend! it's been so cold I couldn't even justify attempting to go out and work on my car this past weekend...plus I'm a slacker sooo lol

Aiiiight, so a little bit of an update.

...So like two weekends ago I went out to the storage unit to start disconnecting and labeling all the wiring, and pull off more parts in preparation for pulling the motor. Things went well for the most part, besides the fact it was like 20 degrees outside! :frown: wellll, when I first arrived to my unit and started to look over the car, I made this little discovery...

Image

^I always knew my BMC had a slight leak, but I guess from sitting idle so long it just magnified, and when I saw that I was like DAYUM! haha I think it must be leaking at the two points where the plastic resevoir goes into the actual cylinder (o-rings or something). basically from the last time I had worked on the car, ALL of the fluid in the BMC resevoir had leaked out, traveled down the booster, then dripped onto the framerail, and went like, literally inside the frame rail then dripped out! it was def a WTF moment for me...so of course I disconnected the lines and pulled it off and then cleaned up all the fluid to prevent further issues...I pretty much plan on buying a brand new 94+ 1" Z32 BMC this spring. I also realized the FUBAR'd middle fitting deal on my BMC, no idea why the double fitting deal is even on there to begin with, if anything I will cut the middle flare fitting out of the old BMC and put it in the new one whenever I get it to have a proper looking setup.

So needless to say, by the end of my stay at the storage unit I had disconnected/labeled all of the wiring in the engine bay and had it out of the way and removed some other stuff. The battery in my camera went dead when I went to take a pic of how everything sat when I was done, so no pics of that. But before that point, my curiosity had gotten the best of me, and I wanted to pull off the valve cover to get half an idea on the condition of my engine and what I would be working with the next couple of months. The results were surprising, in a good/bad kinda way haha

VC off
Image

RAS already installed, SCORE! no idea on what brand right now though
Image

Image

Image

I also peeled the compressor inlet/outlet pipes off the t25, actually looks great, almost NO shaft play, in better shape than I thought...
Image

also, I never realized that my motor already had an s14 SR water neck already installed (you can see it in this pic)
Image

^obviously as you guys know, it has a threaded port that allows us s13 SR guys to do away with that pesky coolant feed line behind the block (block it off) and instead you can run a line to the water neck for better access. I like this idea, and since the neck is already installed and I'm ordering SS braided lines, why not?? Kinda makes me wonder what kind of setup used to be ran on my motor since someone already had the s14 neck on it...

Speaking of which, FRSport is having a pretty good sale this week on DIF products, just so ya guys know! So today when I got home from work I placed an order for some goodies

DIF S14 SR20 bottom mount forged/silicone sleeved oil/coolant turbo lines
Image

DIF t28 turbo reclock adapters
Image

DIF steering bushing
Image

I've been jonesin to buy some parts lately, so hopefully this little order will satisfy my need...atleast until I do my tax return :naughty:

Now to the pics that worry me, I need your input!
OK, so when I was looking at the lobes on my cams, it seems to me (mind you I'm a noob) that there is excessive score/scratch marks on them. They're not on every lobe, but most of them have these fine marks in them that look along the lines of this here:

Image

^yeaaaah, about that. SO my question is, is this just normal wear for cam lobes in an older higher mileage engine, or is this ubsurdly excessive?? if it is, WHAT causes this? Does this indicate that the cam oiler tube ports might be clogged? Or maybe that my oil pump was worn and wasn't producing enough oil pressure to properly lubricated the valvetrain? I might just post this issue in the SR forum to see what those hooligans say, but ANY help or feedback is appreciated guys...

PS: what would cause the rocker arm on Cyl#3 Intake side to get excessive gunk built up on it? All the other rocker arms and valvetrain for the most part are squeeky clean, except for just this one...see pic below
Image

That's all for now, let me know if you guys have any input/ideas on the above issues, thanks!

Well as I said last week I placed an order of DIF parts with FRSport, and they showed up at my door Friday! Yet another good experience and fast shipping with these guys... now on to the parts!

DIF Bottom Mount s14 SR20 Braided/Forged/Silicone Sleeved turbo oil & coolant lines...verrry nice pieces
Image

forged fittings
Image

Image

Image

came with both .032 & .062 oil restrictors, dunno which one this is but usually .032 is for BB turbos and .062 is for journal/non BB snails
Image

next up, DIF t28 turbo reclock adapters
Image

nice laser etching and CNC work
Image

just checkin things loosely to make sure fitment was on par, no problems!
Image

and last but not least, DIF solid steering bushing WOOO :chuckle:
Image

OKKK, soo I made my way out to the storage unit this weekend and got A LOT of stuff done. Everything has been disconnected/unbolted/drained/labeled/smelled/tasted in preparation to pull the motor. The only thing left will be to unbolt the transmission cross member, engine mounts, and then finally pull the motor out! I still have to go and buy an engine hoist from Harbor Freight, but that's just a minor detail. Things are getting so close I can feel it, cannot wait to tear into this thing!! Definitely stoked, here are few pics from this weekend:

driveshaft OUUUT. really thinkin about going 1 piece, maybe Z1 of DSS? probly go steel for $$ issues, but would love to go aluminum!
Image

downpipe. which again, probly replacing. looking at the Megan Racing DP, I want a flex connection due to the tubular Tomei manifold
Image

test pipe
Image

part of the Greddy exhaust chillin in the hatch! haha I'm really runnin out of room to store parts in my unit! gotta be resourceful
Image

PS pump & resevoir along with leaky BMC :tisk:
Image

also found that the normal low brake fluid level switch connector has been replaced w/ some other kind/make of plug, coooool! not
Image

engine bay wiring labeled and out of the way
Image

Image

Let me make a note and say that when I bought the car I thought the wiring was pretty "clean" for the most part. But after looking a lot of builds with SR's in them, I realized the wiring in my car was kinda shoddy lookin in a few areas hahah. Wiring scares me to death in cars since I'm not that advanced, but I'm hopin while the engine is out I will be able to do SOMETHING to tidy and clean this mess up:

no idea what to do w/ all this stuff, i'm sure there's a lot of stuff thats not used guessing by all the empty plugs I've found on this side
Image

Image

removed the heater hose lines.
Image

it's hard to tell in the above pic but I also realized what a failtastic voyage that upper heater hose had going on. obviously it was a general pre-bent "cut to fit" hose, but coming from the coolant tube behind the head it went straight up like 3", then across like 7" then down and into the nipple for the heater core. obviously air would get trapped in this configuration, and would be near impossible to get out. this could explain my some weird coolant issues I had previously...on the bright side though, I will be completely getting rid of that setup since I'm relocating the turbo coolant line to the water neck. Using part #'s from a thread I found I will use some NAPA hoses to keep things lookin clean on all on the intake manifold side of the motor.

here's a shot of everything ready to go! you can also see the dorky heater hose line at the back of the motor haha
Image

annnd here's how I left her!
Image

On Saturday I also went over to my dad's place (where I will be rebuilding my motor) and hung out for a bit. I snapped a pic of the engine stand in all its glory :gapteeth:
Image

also figured I'd whore a pic of my pops Harley, 07' Heritage Softail...it's got a lotta chrome and it's loud as f*** :dblthumb:
Image

FIN!

ayyye, that's what I've heard! not really lookin forward to the install since everyone says it's a PITA, but it was cheap and I'm sure it's gotta make some kinda difference over my worn out rubber one! thanks for the props man, and what's wrong with your car?

hmmm, tempting. I really won't be able to see how worn things are until I pull the head off and strip it down, which might be like a month from now. I guees if you sell it by then no biggy, but if you do still have it and I need it I will def be sending you a PM sir! bahah nice man yeah I did the picture puzzle challenge too! I'm saving my discount for my next big order from them by the end of this month...was it me or was that 3rd picture really hard to put in order!?! maybe I'm just slow :chuckle:

I'm not just sayin that cause I'm a huge buckeye fan, but OSU campus is pretty much ridiculous as far as how big it is and all the students everywhere, they've sepnt a loooot of $$$ to have some of the best facilities out there and it shows...

Sounds good. The new parts look mighty nice and yes, the third pic was a little hard. It seemed like the left side didnt really match up but I guess it was right so thats good.lol

No problem man. Your stuff is great.

I just finished my sr swap and Im not getting any power to the fuel pump. I gotta check it out but its too damn cold to mess around with that stuff now. Also, I'm a greedy bastard and am in the process of an upgrading the SR. I'm doing this before actually firing up the engine :-/

Upgrade consists of GT2871 turbo, 740cc injectors, z32 maf, 256 cams, rom tune, etc. Looking to buy these items, so give me a heads up if you come across any of this stuff!!!

Let me know when you want to pull the motor. Looks like it can be out in about 10 minuets at this point. Oh and I'm not working right now so...I'm kinda bored.

I'll send you my number on facebook if I haven't already.

MASSIVE UPDATE: MOTOR IS OUT AND TORN DOWN!!! :mike

All right kids, so I've been busy these past two weekends so let me get you up to speed. As you can tell by the above text, I pulled the SR and it is now stripped down to the block. As previously stated in my last post I needed to get an engine hoist. Many good friends offered to lend me theirs including my dude Alex (rustpecs13) but I figured I would probly need the crane at a moments notice and would like to have one to lend out to buddies who needed to borrow one and just to have around. I had my sights set on the 1ton Harbor Freight shop crane, which I had a $99 coupon for from a issue of SuperStreet. There's a HF literally 5 minutes down the road from me, but I made a special trip to the one about 30min away since they had the 1ton crane in stock. I picked it up, took it home and assembled it (surprised by the quality and welds, very nice piece) everything went fine until I took it to my unit to store. While I was there I just wanted to make sure it would reach fine, and WHADDYA KNOW!?!

FAIL.
Image

yeaaah, just a wee bit too short! haha so fully extended at 1/4 ton capacity, the chain only went like 2" past the front of the valvecover...definitely not gonna work. Made a phone call to the HF store down the street from me, nicely explained my situation and asked to return my fully assembled 1ton in exchange for a 2ton (like 13" longer boom) and pay the difference, and they surprisingly said no problem! Props to the customer service at HF, they seem to care atleast and were cool about the whole thing, even let me use a 20% off coupon on the sale price of the 2ton! Needless to say, got the 2ton and assembled it a few days later and she worked fine, definitely a beast compared to the 1ton and yet again great quality for china made! My dad (who is a die hard domestic, buy American made stuff kinda guy who discourages imports for the most part) willingly volunteered to help me with pulling the motor a few months ago when I told him about my plans, so that Saturday we had a lil bonding time out at the storage unit and finally pulled the SR outta its home...I gotta say I had a great time working on the 240 with my pops, it was pretty cool to get him involved in my project, and things went so smooth too! Here are the pics from that weekend:

sooo then it was time to remove the transmission & clutch/flywheel assembly from the motor:

transmission. yes I know, I'm a tard and didn't think to take the shifter out before pulling the motor, but everything still came out fine!

then we loaded the SR up and transported it a couple miles away to my dad's place:

up, up, and away!
Image

and FINALLY on the stand in its new home! for a few months atleast haha
Image

So I pretty much dedicated this whole past weekend to tearing into and stripping down my motor. Like I said earlier I got it all down to the block which is as far as I need to take it too. Everything went great, and once again I didn't hit any major snags, but I believe it was all only due to the fact of the mass amounts of researching I've done here on NICO the past few months, not to mention some great writeups by positron and mrzballa! On to the good stuff.

water pump ouuut

THE END!!!!

Needless to say I'm veeery happy with the progress I made this past weekend. This coming weekend I plan to work on cleaning/degreasing the block itself, and probably going through and tapping all the threads to clean those up. I also have quite a few parts that I'm keeping for reassembly that need cleaned up/painted.

Today after worked I stopped by Performance Theory, the shop who I am taking my head to to get decked, multiangle valvejob, cleaned up, and probably just going to have them install the BC valvesprings for me. I talked with the owner Nate just to touch base with him since the first time I came by the shop a few months ago, and I'm planning on bringing the head to them this Friday, pretty stoked!!
