Definitely louder than stock, minimal drone and only between certain revs, and yes the offset muffler to ensure there was enough room for those big cans.

I had to keep the wife happy with it too, I was worried 4x6 wouldn't muffle enough so I went a size up. Even now some people complain its hard to hear me on bluetooth because they can hear the exhaust (with both windows up and sunroof and shade closed).

So i got a better look at the exhaust today..... i did see the resonator and i was very surprised after the resonator right before the axle the 2.25" round pipe is squeezed down to a half circle then back up to a full circle.. that cant be good for the car... w u would they do that?

I didn't realize that was a resonator, i thought they had just decided to flatten the piping for clearance or something. Either way I'm glad it's gone.

Yes it didn't look like much..

The flattening of the pipe, I'm sure was for clearance. I'm now kind of thinking just to use the 2.25" pipe from the cat back. into the 5x8 oval cans. Are the ovals to big just to run straight off the rear? or do they have to be angled?

I told my guy to keep as minimal bending as possible, as he was bending in shop and it wasn't mandrel bent pipe. You could go for it, but when pipes are bent and not done mandrel, you lose inside diameter. Sharp turns can cause a choke point in the exhaust. Just do what feels right to you. I would never have gone straight pipes like OneFlyFatGuy, but it works for him and he's super happy. Mine is more of a daily driver when you need it, head turner when you want it type of setup.

So i finally got 1 quote to install the custom magnaflow exhaust we have been talking about. Tge quote for parts and labor ( not including the magbaflow 5x8 and tips) was $1200.00. I though this was tge cheaper route...

Sounds like you are at the wrong shop, or in a very expensive area. The welding/angles on this car are stupid easy. Next time tell them what theoretical parts you have ("I have two magnaflow 5x8 mufflers and tips, i just need the piping to connect them.") and see what the quote is. This shop sounds like they are either
1) Trying to entice you to buy some of their shop-furnished exhaust parts (at a remarkable markup price) OR
2) Trying to take advantage of you outright.

Yea i told them i would suppy the muffler and tips.. here is what he told me. I even sent him a picture of tge setup..

That’s for parts and labor. Viewing the attached it looks fairly straight forward, I would estimate it to be around $1200. That’s with us providing the stainless piping, hangers, gaskets, mounting and with you providing the tips and mufflers.

That was from http://www.driveunderground.com
I'lll keep looking..

I pinged them again and he said its only an estimate, but he suspects about $400 in stainless n pieces and 9 hours to do the job

Definitely keep looking. I asked my boss where he got his exhaust done, and it was a small mom and pop. They were excellent on price, fit, and finish. Took him the afternoon, he remarked at how easy it was to work on this car when I picked it up. Try to find a local hot rod shop or classic style shops. The guy that did mine specialized in classics like 60's mustangs and some hot rods. His work was top notch, $200 for parts and labor, as I supplied the mufflers and tips.

Fyarf, do you know where yiu got the merge oipe from? I cant seem to find a 2.5" single in with a dual 2.25" out. *or even a 2.5" dual out.

I can only find a dual in and single out.. can these be made ti fit if turnedr around?

Also at what point do you reduce tge pipe to 2.25"? Coming out of the merge?

And you have a v6 with this setup right? What year?

My sig shows it all :)

Shop fabbed the splitter where the stock muffler inlet bolted on, pretty sure its custom. 2.5 to two 2.25 outlets. so, the end of the midpipe bolts to the splitter.
If you can find a wishbone splitter with one 2.5 port and two 2.25 ports on the other side, directionality doesn't matter. Air will flow.

Good luck on finding a better price. You can tell from the pics of my car that there isn't a bend over 30 deg in the entire system. Anyone telling you it will be difficult is playing you. Again, I paid $200 for the piping parts and install, and provided mufflers and tips. Mufflers and tips were about $400 in hand, so $600 for the catback. Then $350 for y-pipe and $50 to install it. So header back system for about a grand. The $1200 quote you posted about made me shudder. Either they're welding silver and gold coated pipes, or have other things factoring in.

I found another place that will provide the pipe, hangers and flanges and do the install for $300.00. I need to provide the y, muffler and tips.

Oh and they only do regular bending.. is that ok? I dont think tge pipes are bent that much to close it off

Regular bending will be fine. if we had sharper angles, it would be more of an issue. But with our cars, you'll be fine. Mine is regular bent as well. the y-splitter you posted looks about perfect. They might need to cut some off of the 2.25 outlets for clearance and angles, but that part will do fine.

Fyarf, do you remember the part number of your tip?
What is tge length of the tip?

I was looking at magnaflow tips 35121 or 35127

Still a little undecided on either 4x9 or 5x8.
Magnaflow exhaust 14235.
I still need to get under and see how low they will hang in the back.

Can you provide more pictures?
Did you use aluminum or stainless tubing..

Just to triple check, i am not installing the racingline y pipe, will this setup be good? Also removing factory resonator..

I used 35121 for the tips, and stainless steel tubing. I could tell the difference before putting the y-pipe on, as i got the exhaust on first. The y-pipe really tops it off though.

I remember a post at one point that said the stock exhaust with the y-pipe sounded like a castrated lion. with just the exhaust and stock cat, mine sounded great. Not as free flowing, but improvements in sound and feel. I have an intake as well, which also helps. Things to keep in mind.

If you aren't going to use a y-pipe, I would go with the 4x9 to increase the volume a little. Just my thoughts. I'll try to get some more pics up when I can, but life keeps me busy.

In what way does the y pipe top it off. Sound, performance?

What does more volume do if i go with the 4x9?

Also, i found out the stillen is a 5x8.. which leans me ti that.. but they also use a resonator..

What were the specs on the nismo? Anyine have pics of that?

fyarf,

can you post a picture of the car on the ground looking at it from the rear? I just can't figure out how those cans don't scrape the ground..

Is tge stock pipe 2.25" just thinking if 2.25 is enough from the cat back... besides a round pipe at 2.25 has got to be better then the existing pipe.

Again, does anyone know the pipe sixe of thr nismo or stillen?

Do you think it matters what kind of y adapter i use?

Herenis another one.

I have some cabin clips, but they are from my phone so they are potato quality, and don't do the sound justice at all. I'll see if I can get some better quality ones and put them up.

What's your timeframe to get your exhaust done? I'm in the middle of a move so things are busy, but if it will help with your decision, I'll do my best to get some clips up.

I am going to see the exhaust guy this weekend to discuss the layout and parts i want to use. He seems to think with the magnaflow 5x8 cans(14235) in polish and the same tips (35121) you used installed about $700.00. All my research has shown me that the 2.5" pipe from the cat back to th splitter than run 2.25" to the exhaust is tge most common setup. So hopefully this weekend i will order the parts and get it installed in a week or 2.

If you can post a few more pics of tge underside, and how the mufflers are mounted that would be great.. Can you post a picture of the rear of the car on the ground?

After this, we should make a new post and make it a sticky.
