I read quite well, thanks. I'm far from an "e-thug", and I was well aware of your "niceties" towards the car in general.
I do, however, have this thing about misinformation. Bothers me.
As regards all the poorly-maintained Q's you're encountering, that concerns me as well. Sad to see, indeed. Apparently you haven't seen an equivalent number of ragged-out, beat-to-hell Eclipses running around with a shop towel for a gas cap and four mismatched tires... Perhaps that's just a United States thing.
Please recall that you mentioned these cars that will "hand a Q it's ***". There are many that can - duh. There's ALWAYS something faster. Sorry if my 0-170 example doesn't work for you. But don't fool yourself - it's certainly not the ONLY area (your words) where the Q outperforms the FWD DSM's. Perhaps if you knew a little more about the car, you'd know in its stock form, it's competitive with a stock Eclipse in the quarter-mile. Interesting, eh?
Also, some of us own Q's that play in the 14-sec sandbox.
While the Q45's 4200 lbs precludes any "fancy-dancing" on a road course, it outhandled the BMW 5-series, the Diamante, and the Acura Legend bone stock, and with a few minor mods (see my member's rides page) the Q actually can become quite nimble (for a big fat sedan). Certainly not a threat to the DSM econoboxes you referenced, but again, those are apples and oranges. I haven't seen any "pretty numbers in the test data" from the Diamond-Star guys in quite a while... The car requires major mods to even show its face on the playground these days. Driving skill? Well, let's sling 4200 pounds and 300 hp (RWD) sideways, and try it again with 2800 pounds and 170 hp (FWD) and see which requires the "better driver".
Actually, there really is no competition. Reliability, amenities, comfort, styling... The list goes on and on. You've already said you're a fan of the car, so I don't need to drive that point home.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, your point wasn't lost on me or anyone else here. We got it. And you were partially correct.
My "e-race" (there's a new term for us) was just to illustrate that when you say one car will "hand another car it's arse", you may want to be more specific, and more informed. 1/4 mile? Top speed? Road course? Which car gets the ladies? Which car spends more time in the shop while the techs try to figure out why "crank walk" is so prevalent in the DSM camp? (sorry - low blow).
