that movie is great. i thought the audi sounded good as well, as it should.

i still think the king of movie cars has to be the Aston Martin DB5 from goldfinger and a few other bond movies.

i've glanced over some replies to this thread. har har.

according to my book a car is 'gay' if it is:all looks (minus) any power, handling,'rowdyness' = LAME AS HELL

but i generally use the term 'gay' to describe something lame or stupid

Lemme tell ya. It's a 5 speed, and we do burnouts by having one person hold onto the rear hatch. 60 ft-lbs of torque, baby! YEAH!

It has zero passing power, zero 5th gear acceleration, zero sexiness factor, two broke-*** doors, no tach, and no working radio.

But it gets a consistent 50 miles to the gallon. I fill it up every 2 weeks and it costs me 12 dollars tops.

I once had a 53 foot trailer "drag" my *** up I-81 on a trip to see the GF.

I got 65 miles to the gallon that tank. It's easy to maintain (I changed all the belts, including timing belt by myself in 2 hours) and it's more reliable than any vehicle my family owns.

Metro=teh ****.

But you're right. It takes balls of steel to drive it. It takes balls the size of canteloupes to be seen in it.

I guess this doesn’t apply to the Turbo Forester. Subaru is doing well to get away from some of its perceptions in the American public's eye. The WRX, STi and the Turbo Forester are leading the way.

The Miata, VW Bug and the Mini Cooper are all "boutique cars." Highly trendy and outside the mold of the average car. I guess I equate these types of cars an effeminate. The cars that I equate as "chick" cars are the Pontiac Grand Am, the newer Mitsu Eclipses and V-6 Mustangs. Nothing against these cars, but I would really never consider driving them.

I always thought the only true gay Subaru was the old 360. Oneof the first models Sube imported to the US. Though I don't rhink many folks here remember them.

Dude i dont know what planet you are living on but the 2nd Gen DSM's are far from poser cars. Just because you might know a poser that has one does not make all DSM owners posers. I know of quite a few daily driven, very stock looking DSM's that will hand most any Q out there its ***. If anything I would think that the Q is a posers car before a DSM is one. The majority of the owners of older Q's that I have met are a bunch of bottom feeders that bought the fanciest used car that there bargain basment budgets would let them. This is obviously not true for all Q owners and that is why i dont regard the Q as a poser car, but a fine automobile that was somewhat ahead of its time.

I'll be glad to take that challenge. $1,000 prize, to be held in escrow by a neutral party.

First car to 160 mph wins.

Kind of a chickensh!t statement, putting a modded DSM up against a stock Q, really comparing apples to oranges, but whatever. My offer stands.

Well, the folks at MachV motorsports, who specialize in DSM tuning will disagree with the statement about DSM's being posers. 1st and second gen's are pretty nice cars. It's the newest generation stock eclipses that are kinda disappointing IMHO. Much less sporty than the previous gen's, but far less gay than the new beetle..

I could see the new stock Beetle being a "vagitarian" vehicle.

I just looked up poser in the dictionary and contrary to some people's opinions it does NOT list 4.5L V8 w/ 278hp and 296 lbs torque STOCK as the definition. I think that description comes under "bad@$$ car with a heart of gold"

You guys really need to take it easy and actually read what a perons posts and not just what you guys can take offence to and flame. Its easy guys left to right, top to bottom.

If you had bothered actually reading instead of taking offence you would also note the part where I said - " This is obviously not true for all Q owners and that is why i dont regard the Q as a poser car, but a fine automobile that was somewhat ahead of its time."

As i'm sure you can surmise from that statment, I am also very fond of the Q, and dont feel that all Q owners are posers. But the majority of owners that I do know that have older models, did buy them primarily to look like they paid a lot more than they did for a used car, as the 20inch chrome rims and such would lead you to believe. In my eyes this does not detract from the appeal of a Q since I dont judge a car buy the type of people that I have encountered who happen to own one.

My statement was that just because you know someone that falls under a certain category in your eyes and owns a certain type of car, that you can banish the car as being a "poser" car. I know people that have non turbo DSM's with rims and picnic table wings, I also know people that run 11's with very stock looking DSM's and use the cars everyday of the week, all year long (this is in Canada, mind you).

AZhitman - thats grrrreat your car goes 170, kudos, too bad thats as useful as ....uhm ....... something thats not useful. I'm not comparing a Q and a DSM they are completly different cars designed for different purposes. I was trying to compare the image that they portrayed. But count on some e-racer to praise the only performance aspect that the Q may excel in compared to the DSM, how about all the other pretty numbers on the test data?Wow let me guess you would want to hold this grudge match between the DSM and Q on the highway right, one that dosn't have too many bends and such since that might actually require some driving skill, and will allow you to have a top speed contest? Please don't tell me that you would want to run your e-race with your e-money on an actual track or anything, and pray that your propsed Q would actually stand a chance. Please e-thugs are bad enough dont really need e-racers added into the mix as well. You are in Arizona I am in Canada, do the math. Your proposed race is , to quote yourself, a chicken**** proposal unless you plan on driving all the way to Toronto, or were you planning on paying for gas, and accomodations for any DSM owner that wants to race you in Canada? The $1000 that you would end up paying the guy wouldn't really be worth his effort for the time taken off of work, gas, etc., but i'm sure you were already well aware of this.

Please guys read, think, then start pecking at your keyboards - it will make the world a much smarter place.

There was a song, can't recall by who ......... anyways it had a line in it about a 1 eyed, left handed, lesbian eskimo or something like that, but it did mention she drove an Integra.

Now that could upset some people.

I read quite well, thanks. I'm far from an "e-thug", and I was well aware of your "niceties" towards the car in general.

I do, however, have this thing about misinformation. Bothers me.

As regards all the poorly-maintained Q's you're encountering, that concerns me as well. Sad to see, indeed. Apparently you haven't seen an equivalent number of ragged-out, beat-to-hell Eclipses running around with a shop towel for a gas cap and four mismatched tires... Perhaps that's just a United States thing.

Please recall that you mentioned these cars that will "hand a Q it's ***". There are many that can - duh. There's ALWAYS something faster. Sorry if my 0-170 example doesn't work for you. But don't fool yourself - it's certainly not the ONLY area (your words) where the Q outperforms the FWD DSM's. Perhaps if you knew a little more about the car, you'd know in its stock form, it's competitive with a stock Eclipse in the quarter-mile. Interesting, eh?

Also, some of us own Q's that play in the 14-sec sandbox. :D

While the Q45's 4200 lbs precludes any "fancy-dancing" on a road course, it outhandled the BMW 5-series, the Diamante, and the Acura Legend bone stock, and with a few minor mods (see my member's rides page) the Q actually can become quite nimble (for a big fat sedan). Certainly not a threat to the DSM econoboxes you referenced, but again, those are apples and oranges. I haven't seen any "pretty numbers in the test data" from the Diamond-Star guys in quite a while... The car requires major mods to even show its face on the playground these days. Driving skill? Well, let's sling 4200 pounds and 300 hp (RWD) sideways, and try it again with 2800 pounds and 170 hp (FWD) and see which requires the "better driver".

Actually, there really is no competition. Reliability, amenities, comfort, styling... The list goes on and on. You've already said you're a fan of the car, so I don't need to drive that point home.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, your point wasn't lost on me or anyone else here. We got it. And you were partially correct.

My "e-race" (there's a new term for us) was just to illustrate that when you say one car will "hand another car it's arse", you may want to be more specific, and more informed. 1/4 mile? Top speed? Road course? Which car gets the ladies? Which car spends more time in the shop while the techs try to figure out why "crank walk" is so prevalent in the DSM camp? (sorry - low blow).

Azhitman- see we are pretty much in the same camp then on the matter. The only part where I might want to interject something would be the fact that you assumed that I was talking about a FWD and a 170hp car. If I was going to compare the two, which would be pointless, I at least use the top of the line DSM with AWD and 215hp since I would be comparing it to a car that originally cost almost three times as much (i might be wrong on that figure).

Other than that all I can say is nice Q.

p.s. - the only reason why i even brought a Q into this was because jesda, who owns a Q, was saying that DSM's are poser cars. I think there are enough examples running around that would prove otherwise.

Well, when I think 2nd-gen DSM, the Eclipse was what came to mind... Your 3x figure is probably pretty close to right on, though.

I'd disagree with the "poser car" comment as well. Although I'm not a huge fan of anything DSM since the old RWD Starion/Conquest Tsi went away, I think anytime you can make a sub-$20K car run 13's or better, it's an accomplishment.

Speaking of the old Starions/Conquests, I'd LOVE to build one as a project car. Hmmmmmm.....

Dude the starion/conquests were one of my favorite cars. Its too bad they never sold any here in Canada. I've never owned one but it would be cool to build one since you never really see all that many around, and I have heard stories of some really potent ones. The only ones I have seen for sale tho are selling for almost as much as a steath/3000gt, i dont like them that much, LOL.

I hear you. The Stealth/3000gt were one of my LEAST favorite cars.

I had a buddy with a black Starion, with 17x9's (R) and 17x8's (F), lowered, some aftermarket twin turbo setup (sorry, I'm a retard when it comes to turbo engines). Car sounded bad as all hell, and I know it handled great...

Maybe I'll start looking for one of those instead of my 327-powered 240 'vert idea..... :D
