Lol, it could be quite a few things.

Did you already try cleaning the maf?

i have cleaned the maf with carb cleaner and no luck , so ima borrow my friends maf off his 89 240 and see if itll work, since i notice when it bogging badly at like 3k its shooting black smoke all over then when it can rev to 5k it shoots out wayyy less

I had my TPS unplugged before and the engine would rev but it didn't wanna idle very easily.

You guys have FMIC's? Check for leaky intercooler pipe connections. Whenever I blew a IC pipe off my car didn't wanna rev past 1500 rpms lol

well your car idles fine right? I kinda doubt that it could be the TPS if you don't have a CEL and it idles fine but hey it wouldn't hurt to diagnose the engine with it unplugged.

but check your pipes, that seems more likely to be the problem

you can buy these leak down testers on ebay now which couple on your turbo inlet which allows you to pressurize your intercooler pipes while the engine is off. then just spray everything with soapy water and eliminate your leaks.

if my intercooler pipe is loose, i think i know where it could probably be, since i think i wasn't able to tighten one pipe down all the way, so ill see if its one i think it is, if not ill buy one of those pressure testers. thanks for all the help so far bro, i just hope i can fix all the issues im having without having to put more money into the car for labor.

My wife's KA has a flat spot in the 4k rpm region. This has happened to many people and been brought up in many threads. People have replaced the MAF, TPS, O2, CAS, Water temp, and knock sensors but no fix.

You guys need to quit throwing parts at the problem and actually troubleshoot things FSM style.

I would look at the wiring to the three devices that control safe mode revving and the fuel mix the most first, then troubleshoot them according to the FSM:TPS, MAFS, and 02.

Then go looking for intake leaks, bad couplers and bad clamps. Checking the water temp sensor is easy, so you can do that anytime.

Alot of the time it's just bad wiring if you can't find anything else wrong. Jiggling the connections can sometimes reconnect things and you can notice the idle change or just the sound of the motor to tell where it is bad.

I haven't replaced anything. It runs fine under 4k rpm and gets ok MPG's. I plan to look into it when I get around to rebuilding it.Also, something that I forgot, someone had a clogged cat that caused this.

i would just begin trouble shooting things rather than spending money replacing parts like datte said.

If your car ain't starting i would check your timing then maybe pull a spark plug crank it and see if you're getting spark. Then check your fuel pressure.

i noticed when i start my car when its at cold start the car can rev easily to 5k with out any problems and can idle. thats with the maf plugged in. now once the motor starts to warm up i notice it tries to die on me and starts gurgling like an old american muscle engine then starts shooting black smoke, and only revs to 3k...
