One more week shouldn't matter at this point

You shouldn't just in case any of the broken washer gets into the engine

I was given a 1994 Infiniti J30 from a friend. When I changed the oil yesterday I felt a small ball bearing drop on me when I took off the oil filter. After researching on the internet, and various forums I found out it was part of a Oil bypass/relief/regulator/check/pressure valve. It has many names all over the internet.

This is what it looked like when I pulled it off.

I know it has been a while but we ran into the same problem so for future searches the part number is 15241-40F00. There are two of them. we used a 12x1.25 tap, run it in until it bottoms and the piece will spin then pull it out while turning it. tap the new one in and you are set.
Based on everything Ive found, I think that I can drive with it broken for a little while; especially since I was already driving with it that way anyways. It will just allow some of the unfiltered oil to go into the engine. Should I not drive on it until I replace the broken valve? Ive ordered the part and will pick it up in a few days, but I wont be able to put it in for at least a week. I can go without driving if I have to, but I don't think it will really matter at this point.

P.S. Does anyone know how to post pictures in a post?

Can you continue driving like that? Yes.

Should you continue driving like that? No.

As you said, you are not effectively filtering the oil and you may run the risk of oil flowing in directions it should not, I.e. back flow on shutdown which would lead to excess wear on start up.

Instead of posting about it, get out there and fix it and then enjoy your new ride.
