WWII again? Oh well, since it takes place in Japan it should be a little different. If anyone does WWII games rights it's COD. I just thought they'd be sticken to modern/future war games from now on. Oh well.

See kids, this is what happens when publishers retain IP rights instead of developers.

I'm sick of money-hungry publishers ravaging names for their sales values instead of actually funding quality game development. Today's gaming world has NO need for publishers like Activision and EA anymore. I look forward to the day Blizzard and Valve aren't the only ones giving third-party publishers the middle finger.

Activision's getting as bad as EA anymore. They're buying up rights to everything with a logo, then turning it inside out and handing the development rights over to monkeys. They need to KITFO.

And the only WWII game series that was ever worth a damn was MOH, and even then it was only the early ones.

I wonder if COD 5 special edition will come with a logo emblazoned CODpiece...

Unfortunately they have been doing this for a while. Activision used to be awesome. They help to produce awesome games. I guess somewhere down the road they saw the money that EA was making and decided to go the same route: buy everything that makes money, make a new version of it every year, and push it out on time even if the game is buggy, runs bad, plays like ****, whatever. It sucks.

My sentiments exactly!

The only good company that EA has under their belt is Dice. And that's only because they give Dice free run to do what they want. EA claims to use a hands off approach to all their developers, but I think everyone knows they only do that with Dice.

So it's going to be like COD3 where IW didn't develop it and it sucked. COD4 succeeded b/c IW made it.

They obviously have their grimey hands off of Dice, because BF:BC is turning out to be a pretty awesome game

Heres some more info on it =]

Quote »Call of Duty: World at War will utilise the Call of Duty 4 engine but the developer has also added various enhancments, such as the ability the burn down buildings and foliage. The game takes place primarily in the pacific, with the US forces fighting Imperial Japan. Frank Kearsy, military advisor and Gulf War Veteran, has made sure that the way the Japanse fight is both tenacious and shocking.

You’ll also be fighting as the Russians, who are invading Germany. With the Nazi forces on the back foot they will start fighting even more ferociously in an attempt to defend their strongholds such as in Berlin. There is also a new party system that will allow the leader to issue commands to his troops in single player.

Mutliplayer perks are also back, including some of the favorites from Call of Duty 4, but there will also be new ones that better suit the time period. The game also features new weapons for the series, such as the flamethrower, which according to OXM, can melt the skin off of your enemies and set ablaze grass and wooden buildings. You are also able to shoot throw materials depending on the strength of the material.

Treyarch is promising that this new insentient element of Call of Duty will be the darkest one yet and are dedicated to making the best game they can. They have had two years of development time, rather than the 11 months they had for Call of Duty 3. And this time they have specific teams working on all the different versions, with the Xbox 360 version acting as the lead.

Not buying it. People whine and ***** about developers making WWII games but then they go out and ****ing buy it. Obvious the idea is still profitable. I'm convinced that there can be no new angle on WWII that hasn't already been taken and nothing will convince me otherwise.

I agree, WWII is soooo played out, its just not remotely fun anymore, Call of Duty 4 single player was sooo much fun and intense cause you didnt have a clue what was going on. You already know the outcome of WWII. And part of what made the multiplayer so fun was the modern-ness of the weapons and surroundings. and the call ins like the heli and airstrike. Inifinty Ward did a great job, and I hope cod5 tanks so they can get hired to do COD6. I demand more modern warfare!

theres no way that infinity ward wont do the next one. following the success of cod4, cod5 would have to be the best game ever for them to make the next one. i dont think theres any way that treyarch will make 6

Even though they may have played out every angle, scene or battle in WW2 doesn't mean they can't improve on gameplay, graphics and all around performance of an "improved" version of CoD2. I also agree that WW2 has been used alot throughout the gaming industry but as you said it's still very profitable..

I think that's why CoD4 was so successful, because it brought the CoD gaming into a modern time. Newer guns and gadgets (c4, claymore etc etc..) have made it so that they can keep adding newer and better things.. The new maps that were recently released easily jumped to the gamers top 3 Fav. Map list. And with good reason..

Such small contributions such as new maps/guns restart the fire that gamers once felt when they started playing the game. I was getting quite bored of CoD4 as it was the same **** over and over... I knew the maps back to front and the only thing I bothered to play anymore was Zombie Servers or Glitching Servers (not many of them around..). But when I heard that there were new maps coming out I started playing more again and loved playing once again.... Thats what I think about it anyway.

The modern aspect of CoD4 is what makes it so good. But even that can get old. What the CoD franchise needs to do is go Vietnam-era. Think about it. It can be gritty like their WWII games, but it can still incorporate modern aspects like airstrikes and heli's, some decent weapons and gear, like starlight scopes and early-generation NVG's, as well as urban and jungle enviroments

Lots of possibilities. You start off in the early 60's as a raw recruit, and as the game and war progress into the 70's, you move up not only in rank and abilities, but in special units as well. (LRP/LRRP, MACV/SOG, Green Berets, etc.)

The amount of levels and gameplay could be huge. Tet Offensive, fall of Saigon, maybe a Carlos Hathcock sniper mission, some CIA black ops in Cambodia, throw in a POW rescue mission after the credits...

ya I would like to see that, a good balance of both ya know. since they did a double story in cod4, they could do the veitnam conflict and the whole middle east conflict in the 70's...the whole israel/palestine conflict

I see where your coming from and I agree with your view. But what you said at the end there sounded something like WOW (World of Warcraft) - in the qoute below ... Which would be kind of interesting if they could pull it off..

this looks promising, looks like youll be able to climb trees, nice. The preview seems to keep the cinematic touch which is good. The modern-ness will be missed, and even though I'll probably pick this up when it comes out (big Call of Duty 4 fan.) I'll probably be more excited for the next one. Which I really hope goes to semi modern atleast a.k.a. 70's to present-ish. I think if this game keeps the core elements of the CoD4 game both online and offline, I think it could be another winner. I would like to see the same rank system, perk system, and captivating storyline. so in other words, dont screw it up treyach or whatever your called. Man I wish infinity ward would be in total control of the making of this

Maybe around late summer? Possibly in Fall-Winter 2008?
