I love the new GTR, it's beautiful and in 4 years I will own one.
It's streamlined, yet keeps that "I'm a GTR" look. I like the fender flare but I think it needs to be more square to accentuate more of a masculine look, and give it more of that JGTC championship heritage in the bloodline.
Not a fan of dual exhaust, weighs more and will increase the cost to modify the car. It is fine on the 350Z because of it's ovaloid structure but the flat rear of the GTR needs either a lesser profiled dual exhaust (ie. Ferrari) or a single exit.
I hope to god they do not put a V8 in the car. Nothing says mundane, cookie cutter sports car like a V8, and it will only be setup for failure when it's marketed against the powerful LS7 engine. It needs to offer up a V6 Twin Turbo with upped displacement. Which is pretty much what the car will come with if my hunch is correct, being that the hoodline has two vents. The last GTR had a vent to promote turbocharger side cooling. I'd run an all-bore 3.6L with NCVS and twin GT28RS turbochargers. Boost would come on hard around 2500 RPM and it would pull all the way to it's 8200 RPM revlimit. I'd rate boost pressure at around 1.0 kg/cm2 and call it even at 500bhp / 500 btq. Run all the power through a new generation ATTESA E-TS drivetrain with in-cabin electronically controlled center differential (thanks Subaru!). Drop the HICAS to save weight and give the car more of a natural feel. Finish it off with a Getrag 6-Speed close ratio gearbox with a mile long 6th gear.
Not only would the engine feel less like a monster, but it would offer up one thing on the Z06, easy power. The Z06 makes 40whp if you look at it the wrong way, but with a turbocharged engine simply upping the boost pressure is a quick gain. It would have potential, backed by the solidarity and overall excellent response of the VQ powerplant as shown in the 350Z. This would help the marketability of the car greatly in the US market.
That would be an honorable replacement for the R34 GTR, and worthy of carrying the GTR badge in my opinion.
