1957 was the first year. I don't think either copied either. It's just coincidence. Nissan isn't going to copy tailights from a car not sold in Japan, 4 years after it debuts.

skyline was i think like late 50s, Prince Motors, before Nissan bought them - *edit* got beat to it

gt-r was like '69 or '70 though, and the quad round tails i think came in like the mid 80s, maybe earlier

I wasn't actually saying Nissan literally copied the 'vette, just making a point that it's impossible for cars to not resemble something else from time to time.

that site contradicts itself:

first "Its production started in 1955 with the introduction of the Skyline ALSI-1, a car built by the Prince Motor Company. The Prince Motor Company was established in 1952 by the Tama Electric Car Company."

then "1st Generation (1957 - 63)"

so which is it?

by the way thats the site i was looking for and couldnt find again, thanks

Yeah, but the 'vette tails didn't even go to the four circles until 1961.

Ferrari used them before either the GT-R or the 'Vette. They're just a sporty style that looks good with a wide variety of bodystyles.

It's already near official that it will be a twin turbo VQ of some sort.

The Z is suppose to get a new Q for 07. I suspect the GTR will have the same motor with HP mods and turbos.

That's what I was thinking as well. Good to hear someone informed agrees with me...makes me feel smart.

By "new Q," what exactly do you mean? An entirely new V6, or an update of the VQ? Or are you not sure yourself?
