check out the link, i installed it a few months ago and it works fine and the location is great.... Hope this helps many
Well I'm hoping the 7 inch screen will work. Thats what I have to go with for now since I don't see any online for a decent price. mcdoken stated above that a 7 inch screen would work and has the same inputs. mcdoken did you try with your 7" screen before replacing with the 8"?

Got my parts today. The Bluetooth/Navi unit and the dash control unit. I'd like to say it was a successful install. It only took about an hour and 15 min to install. I do not have a detail write up or pictures because it was about to storm here and I had to hurry up and finish since I don't have a garage. Overall the install was not difficult. If you follow the instructions above, you shouldn't have any issues. I'm using my 7" display that came with my car. An 8" display is what the factory navi's are installed with but the 7" works fine. I couldn't find an 8" display for a good deal so I may wait a while and see if one comes up with a good price. I'm extremely happy with the 7". Here is a pic after the install from non-navi to factory navi.

awesome! did you also hook the system up to a back-up camera? that was what I wanted when I got my M, but it was a part of the navi package which I didn't want to pay for...plus I already had a Garmin Nuvi that worked fine.

I already had the backup camera. I don't think it was part of the nav package

Great job! May I ask what was the price of the components?

I'm asking only because some have said this would be a complicated and expensive installation. Better not to attempt it...

Thanks.

With two successful installs it seems to be very easy, and pretty cheap considering that ebay link above went for $720 with the screen. I remember one Infiniti dealer said that the car would have to be shipped back to the japan if I wanted the factory nav installed (an obvious attempt to get me off his back). I'm just glad you guys went through the trouble to confirm the success of this swap.

This is huge!!! Could be different now but I remember a huge premium on used M's with Nav when I bought my M35 a year and a half ago. Also, much cleaner install with the factory nav instead of a portable units. It is sort of a pet-peeve of mine to see these portable units in luxury cars (although I understand they are a convenient).

Also, anyway to include the factory DVD and rear screen setup. Should be possible, right?

Very easy install. When I bought my M, I was looking for one with factory Navi. I came across my car which had pretty much everything I wanted (and great price tag) except navi. I decided to buy the car because I could live without the factory navi. Then I came upon this thread about a month after I bought my car. mcdoken instructions are pretty much right now. I purchased the center console control ($75) and the bluetooth\navi unit which came with the GPS antenna and 7.1 navi disk for $170 (all on ebay). So I spent a total of $245 ish and have factory navi . I still have the 7" screen which i'm OK with but may upgrade to the 8" if I come across one for a good price. I didn't get the DVD player that goes in the center console either but that is not needed for navi. So I think its well worth the time which it didnt take much of. Like mtammen said, If you buy a luxury car, I'd want the factory navi instead of a portable one sitting in the window. I recommend doing this if you want the factory look

I did see a few other dash control units when I bought mine for like $99 (buy it now). I don't see them anymore but I'm assuming that is about how much they go for

It will work fine. I used the one that was already connected to my car even though the one I bought came with the wire. Same wire. That is a really good deal on that. Beats what I paid

Good work! I stand corrected about how much money and effort is involved in making it happen ... easier on the later model M for sure. In the 2003 and 2004, the non-NAV units have a monochrome screen - not usable for the NAV system.

Does anyone know if this would void the vehicle warranty. I mean its too late for me but would they really notice? Just wondering

Nobody, including the dealer, will ever know the difference.

Beware what the experts on the forum tell you.

The 7" screen works good with navigation. And you can do the conversion to the OEM system for $250 and two hours of installation time...

I have the 07 M35 with Journey Package (unfortunately for me the 07 Journey Package does not include the back-up camera). I'm interested in getting this done as well--where's a good place to find parts? Been checking on ebay and haven't really seen anything there.

I appreciate the help!

Hey Paigoomein, the only place is ebay right now that can offer this at the low price. I'll post here whenever I find the bluetooth/navi unit.

Try to find a junkyard in your area that's parting out an M35/45.

Hey M45Owner, did you bose or premium sound in your M45. The ebay ad says you need these in order for the nav control to work? Is that true or are they just being cautious? I just want to make sure.

I have a 2006 M35X base no nav or backup camera. Planning to start with nav coz two successful installs and probably if someone comes with a successful backup camera install I would try it.

Thanks

Booyah! Did the install this week and it worked! Now I have to sell my portable since I won't be needing that anymore. I followed the instructions to the T and the only problem is I now have an extra screw I forgot to put in somewhere...... where did that go?

And the total amount of money spent was 150

Pretty easy wasn't it

Did you end up using the 7" screen or did you purchase the 8" screen and if so, how much? I am still using the 7" screen and am ok with it. wouldn't mind the 8 inch if i could find one for a good price

Well enjoy it. I know I have. How long did it take you for the actual install.

i would say 2 hours.... i was on and off for a bit as I had to go to a local hardware store to buy the hex tool for the bluetooth unit. and then in the middle of the install i got insanely hungry so i bought some chinese food.

i feel pretty good about the install. +1 to mcdoken and you man...
