My house is in a nice neighborhood.Jesda wrote:What part of town was it in? Nice suburb or craphole neighborhood?
Yes, but I don't know what to do about the insurance yet.HashiriyaS14 wrote:Was it insured?
I know this. My problem is that the previous owner is hard to get a hold of and has actually turned off his phone on me during my last try to reach him.HashiriyaS14 wrote:The missing title thing sucks. You need to get the original owner to order a replacement ASAP, otherwise the person who stole it might actually be able to put it in their name.
I can only hope, but I think not. I was so tired when I parked it that I don't have any specific memory of where exactly it was, but I do know I drove home.infinitgkid wrote:I know this might sound stupid, but are you sure you just didn't misplace your car?
Any minorities? I would start knocking on doors.Dattebayo wrote:My house is in a nice neighborhood.
Oi. Sorry about your loss. Leaving the title in the car was dumb. If you still have the registration, you might think about getting a real bill of sale from the previous owner now, then try to get a duplicate title. After that you can report it stolen and perhaps collect on the insurance. Without that title, you can't really prove you own the car.Dattebayo wrote:The police won't help me because I don't have a bill of sale and the damn title was in the damn car. I know I'm not smart for keeping it in there, but it was signed over to me already. I was just getting ready TODAY to take the title over and get it put into my name.
I suspect the Bill of sale by itself will not help you. A possible solution: Since you never registered it, or even put the title in your name, perhaps you could pay the previous owner to obtain a duplicate title in his name for you. After all, he is the last official owner on record with the state. Then he can sign it over to you again. Once that's done, then you get it quickly transferred into your name. Then once that's done, report it stolen.Dattebayo wrote:It wasn't registered yet.
I have a bill of sale now, tho.
The police just left and they said it was enough to get the ball rolling. I have told the original seller I may need that even though he doesn't know the car was stolen yet. I told him I lost the title. Now to go tell my insurance company.Bubba1 wrote:I suspect the Bill of sale by itself will not help you. My guess is because he currently has no proof of ownership (the title).AppleBonker wrote:Why are you out of luck? What loophole is there for them not to pay you out on your car?

No. The bill of sale is fine. How many times do I have to say that?Bubba1 wrote:My guess is because he currently has no proof of ownership (the title).AppleBonker wrote:Why are you out of luck? What loophole is there for them not to pay you out on your car?
