A standalone is serious tuning. You have to spend alot of money for serious tuning, at least 2K.
Well, more serious than plug and play ECU...I don't plan on going stand alone. We'll just have to see where this rebuild puts us on the dyno graph.

Not true at all! Everything you need to build a MegaSquirt and install it with an ignition system that MS can control will run you no more than $500. And that's the high end.

Update:fuel pump- 255lphinjectors will be going to RC Engineering to be worked on.Still waiting on the Fisher damper. Anyone else want to get one so I can put some more pressure on the guy to get them done quicker? Probably cost around $350- about the same as a stock damper.Block had to be bored to 89.55mm, custom pistons should be putting me @ 10.5/10.6:1Waiting for damper for full balance/blueprint before install and break-in. We will run it on the dyno after that and I should be able to download a copy then.I'm getting really anxious and will obviously need to play a lot more GT4 before I go insane from the wait.Hopefully by Mid-May.

Think his last comment was that the SAFC wasn't considered complete tuning, not directed towrads the post above it about the megasquirt.

Or does the SAFC 2 let you adjust a 12 by 12 fuel table.

15-25hp from those mods? I think you're not giving the ka enough credit. Time will tell.

Hey pay me right now.......You will make around 210Crank Horse Power, minus that at the 15% degredation through the drive train 210X.15=31.5......then subtract RWHP...... 210-31.5=178.5RWHP

That is my guess you will get 178.5RWHP

Update. Fisher Concepts is finally caught up enough to work on my damper. Cost is going to be $396.There is still a chance that my car will be out and running by Memorial day! I hope to dyno it soon after and let you know what its putting down.

That would be normal shipping I think, but I'm two-day airing it. Its actually not much more expensive than the stock durometer or whatever it is they call the rubber crap that supposedly damps vibrations. I think those go for low $300s. And my old one was pretty much toast being 210k miles old.

Just an update for those interested.Fisher Concepts is taking freaking forever in getting this last part done. Its been 3 weeks past their finish time estimate and I still haven't received the damper. Unfortunately, now the machine shop is getting busier as is my mechanic which is putting the entire project at least 2 months behind schedule.Regardless of the quality of their product (I'm praying nightly that this thing is worth the wait), I would NOT recommend dealing with this company. They have absolutely no clue what customer service is, and I'm actually a bit worried that I will be able to get my car back before July( I originally hoped to have it by May).Once the car is up and running though, it will be dyoned and I will post it.

Official word is that the last piece should be shipped today. That means going to the machine shop, and then putting everything together and back in the car. I don't expect to dyno it until July.

crap I know, I want to know a ballpark of what I should expect when my SOHC pistons/P&P are done in my DOHC. Not that I'll be hitting your #'s...you know what i mean!

You should do a little better than him with that setup.

The compression alone is going to bump you up close to 20HP with the just pistons. I used to drive on the SOHC pistons in the DOHC motor setup, its a fun machine for sure.

Uhh, stupid question, but what is P&P supposed to mean?

Edit: 214kka-et240sx, would you get a life and stop harassing me about this stupdi crap? Go bother someone else you troll.

P&P = Port & polish.

Do you really think I'd put out a higher # than him just with slightly higher compression? I might do the dual exhaust cams, otherwise he's got a lot of mods on me.

How'd you like your KA with the SOHC pistons? Did you have any reliability problems on pump gas?

Well, for starters, he is running a SOHC motor.

You can make them quick, but it takes a bit more stuff than that to make them better than a DOHC. Your P&P (i am stupid for not knowing what that meant), header + exhaust and more fuel and spark should put you up close to the 180whp mark. You might want to get some other engine management to get all the way there, though.

I loved my setup back then. It was a very strong beast, but I found it a bit of a PITA to fill up with high octane all the time. The motor ran like crap with 87 or 89 in it. I used 94 at Sunoco an filled up once a week (on mondays, 5c off...).

Man I cant believe i read through this whole post and didnt catch that this was a SOHC.

I think I'll be happy with the P&P/high comp/I/H/E for a while, maybe some other little bolt ons. I dont want to get into tuning just yet.

Premium wont be that bad for me, I live 2 minutes away from work...

I am pretty sure that from his sig sayin "1991 240sx SE..." and "cams" its definatly a DOHC.

My bad, you are right. I had this thread confused with another thread I responded to last week i think...

Yeah you guys should be close on some level because the extra compression will make alot of difference. I did foget to add that you will need some cams, too. Pretty much all the add-ons that i listed are on his mod list: I, H, E, cams, port & polish, more fuel, more spark, its all right there in the first part of the thread. The P&P with the higher compression is going to do alot more for you than it will him.

Just realize that you may go through rings faster than he will .
