Pink Floyd for me... crazy bunch of people, but they definately went the road less traveled by and produced some EXCELLENT material.

Plus... Dark Side of the Moon still remains king of the billboards longevity. It was in the Top 200 for 591 weeks (11.4 years).

And they funded Monty Python's Quest for the Holy Grail movie...

I'm forever an Incubus fan. To name the best band of all time is relative to the age of the person naming them, so...

Old(er): Pink Floyd, The Eagles, Tom Petty... all greats, it's too hard to pick one.

New: Incubus, Thursday, Dashboard Confessional... the list goes on.

Verdict: This question is so relative to so many factors that I'm just gonna represent my age bracket and go with Incubus as the best.

Incubus = timeless. In 20 years, it'll still be good.

Queensryche.

The thinking man's metal band. All 4 musicians are classically trained and considered virtuosos at their respective instruments, and Geoff Tate is one of the few rock singers with a 4-octave range, trained in opera and classical theatre...

I recommend Rage For Order or Operation:Mindcrime for the first-time listener.

Timeless music, even 20 years later it still rocks.

Best Band of All Time? Wow! That is pretty tough. There are so many bands/singers in so many genres that should be counted. I would think a band/singer would be counted for their:Influence in the music community and societyCreativityMusicianshipMarketabilityLongevity

For Rock and Roll its a toss up:Elvis Presley or the Beatles

Yeah Pink Floyd is great, on the same lines as Led Zepplin (personal favorite), Rolling Stones and Rush. But they just dont have what the Beatles and Elvis had.

Country: Garth BrookesBlues: BB King or Muddy WatersHeavy Metal: Ozzy OsbourneRap: Puff Daddy

I'd have to agree with Hitman about Queensrcyhe rocking, not sure if I'd personally call them the best ever though.

Queen however would be a good choice.

most of their albums never sounded similar, yet, it always sounded like Queen.

I like me some Maiden and Priest too though. and of course, all my punk rawk (goddamn that word...)

and The Darkness:D

Wow, what a vague question. this is a hard one. im gonna have to say elvis as the best rocker of all time, just because he cause so much trouble. But, if you say elvis, you must also look at Chuck Berry and the other older bands who started it.

Beatles top the 60s. Nuff said.

Floyd will be in the top 10 of my 70s list, along with Zepplin, the Who, Peter Frampton, Jethro Tull, and others.

QueensRicky is a damn fine band, and surely make my list of the 80s bands. In a decade of androgony and snyth pop, metal reigned supreme. However, KMFDM will be the top, just becasue they kick boo-tay and have been for 20 years. (84-04)

90s: this is a tough one becuase we had so many new bands make it big then, and then fall from sight. this was the age of "alternative" music, and "emo" and "punk". i guess i must say gravity kills and prodigy here, justbecause most of the good bands i like came out in the late 80s.

Let me get this straight....

You own the "original" reel to reel "MASTER RECORDING" to Dark side.... yeah... I would like to see some pictures of that. I am pretty sure you are talking about the special edition release they did on CD that says "Original Masters" along the sleeve edge. They released "Original Masters" versions of Atom Heart Mother, Meddle, The Wall, The Final Cut, and Dark Side of the Moon. Anybody could have one of those since they were widely distributed. But I seriously doubt anybody besides Roger or Dave own the actual original master recordings.

I don't know if they're the greatest ever, but I bet they'll be among the greatest when we think back on it a few years from now. Very much in the vein of older prog rock bands. Intelligent lyrics, very complex musically. Long *** songs. ;)

not a reel-to-reel, but what looks to be a vinyl record sleeve...i donno anything about these guys but my uncle LOVES them...oh well, i dont have any favorite of all time...i just like good music, whatever the genre might be

Love him or hate him, he had done a lot for rap. He has produced some great rap artists. It is not a popularity contest when trying to decide these things. Another rap greatest would be Dr. Dre.

haha, I need to get that, it's good ****...

Tool, bleah, just another band that writes lyrics nobody can really make sense of and has some creepy guy fronting them...there's a lot of those...

Twisted Sister, while not being the greatest or most influencial, must be noted for being the anti hairband hair band though.

haha, I dissed Tool and gave props to Twisted Sister, I should probably stop posting in this thread:D

I still hate tool though.

Yeah...it's probably gonna take me a few days to fully process that one. Still can't quite wrap my brain around that. ;)
