Tool, bleah, just another band that writes lyrics nobody can really make sense of and has some creepy guy fronting them...there's a lot of those...

Twisted Sister, while not being the greatest or most influencial, must be noted for being the anti hairband hair band though.

haha, I dissed Tool and gave props to Twisted Sister, I should probably stop posting in this thread:D

I still hate tool though.

HOLY **** YOU HAVE JUST HURT MY SOUL!

Ever listen to tool's music and ignore the lyrics? There is so much more to a song than lyrics. Maynard, the singer for tool, even says that. Its about the music, not the lyrics. Lyrics take away from songs. Anyways, Maynard is not creepy, he just does that all for show...

They are still one of the most widely listened to bands around, and they have been that way for over a decade. They must be doing something right...

Mr1der, you have angered me, so stop posting ang go drive your FORD! lmao haha

He's not really a great rapper himself. And he really hasn't brought anything new to hip-hop. In fact, just about everything he is involved in seems to sound similar. He just exploits a certain style to make as much money as possible. Eminem has done more for rap then P Diddy. But if I were to pick a top rapper, it would be Tupac. P Diddy is a good businessman, but that's all the credit I will give him.

Beatles #1 with Elvis a close second. No one else comes remotely close. I guess you had to have been around when they were big to understand how truly influential they were. Most of bands listed are great (though Im not too sure about Puffy Diddy Daddy)/ Everyone has their own favorites, but if you're talking best band/artists of all time, (not your favorite) you can't touch the influence of the Beatles and Presley.

dont take it as a literal note for note reference. listen to the randomness and crazy melodies again. everyone gets their influences from somewhere.

not a reel-to-reel, but what looks to be a vinyl record sleeve...i donno anything about these guys but my uncle LOVES them...oh well, i dont have any favorite of all time...i just like good music, whatever the genre might be

I saw the pics. It is NOT the actual "original" recording. It is a special edition if you will... but it has the album art on the cover and the yellow strip that says Original Master... just like the special edition I described earlier. If it's on vinyl it's worth a bit of money... if it's on CD it's worth about $15. If it's a reel to reel tape... it's worth about as much as the vinyl or maybe a little more. It's definately a collector's item regardless of its actual value... especially to fans of Floyd. I'm sure it's also rather rare, but I wouldn't tout it as the actual studio original master recordings unless it has an authenticating certificate from the studio and/or Waters and Gilmour.

damn thats a broad question, there are so many genres. ill pick mineclassic rock - floyd, jimi hendrixcountry - i dunno, i hate country with a passionrap - run DMC, and Beatie Boysalternative - close fight between red hot chilli peppers and smashing pumpkinspunk - the clashrock - metallicapop - beatlespunk - ugh, so many, um... NOFXmetal - metallica, maybe tool if i ever stop hating them ( my brother and his friends ONLY listen to it, wear their clothing, etc. makes me sick looking at those punks.)

Gotta stop and yell Incubus there... but your choices are really good too. I shall relent, all 3 are timeless Alt. bands.

I'll tell you why I dont like Tool. It's not because of their music. It's because 90% of their fans are annoying as hell. Not trying to offend those that like them, but damn get off the bands nuts. They got a good sound but are not the end all to be all. I see tool as one of those bands that kids say they like simply because it's what is expected of them. I am sure that I will get responces like dude listen to their music, and thats no reason to hate a band. Hell I might even get a few **** you **** they rock. I expect all of these comments. This is just my view of the tool. I am not dissing the band but a core majority of their fan base.

As far as my favorite band, well there is no way I can name a favorite. Though I am quite a big offspring fan.

Have you ever heard their first "self titled" album? It's a black cover with "Offspring" in green? The recording quality is crap because I think it's done on a 4-track recorder... but the songs are SO much more powerful and intense than the rest of their work since then. I believe it was recorded in 1988... about 6 years before their "debut" album Nitro! "Jennifer Lost the War" is SICK!!!!

i saw tool live. they're good, but yeah, Krazy is right. their fans who take everything too seriously piss the living caca outta me. my GF wore a tool shirt to school, and this kid came up to her and said, "APC has a new album coming out, you going to get it??" "uh, no, i dont like them that much" and the kid just looked at her in disbelief, like, how can you like tool and not like APC. as if it were some kind of rule, you must like one if you like the other. but yeah the lyrics are odd, and i kinda know what most of them are about, and how its easy to get them mistaken for something else, but c'mon people, there are lots of other bands out there.

I've been a big Tool and APC fan ever since I was old enough to really develop my own taste in music but I'm far from militant about it or a fanboy. If someone says they don't like my music, I'm actually relieved because 9 times out of 10, what's in their CD player would make me laugh. I DO have a Tool sweatshirt but that's about it...

It'd be hard for me to say who the best band of all time is, seeing as I'm not quite 20 yet and have only been alive for a certain period but (thanks in large part to my father and uncles) I love me some Zepplin and Pink Floyd along with lots of older rock bands, and while I'm rock at heart, I listen to so much other stuff too. I'm pretty big into some lesser known Indie. Much to my chagrin, Postal Service and Death Cab and the like are all being very popular but I have so much other stuff that I know those damn emo, bandwagoning kids will never know about because they won't play it on the radio. :)

Oh, and 3 words: Mindless. Self. Indulgence. :D

Oh yeah, Tool fans can be so freaking annoying. Can't tell you how many times I've been acosted while wearing the sweatshirt or simply driving fast to Aenima by some lamer who you know can only boink fat chicks. They give the cool fans a bad name.

Yes indeed good sir I own the rereleased version they put out in I believe it was 93 of that album. There second album was ignition which was also more hardcore. Then they released Smash which is most everybodies favorite album. Then Ixnay on the Hombre, Americana, Conspiracy of one and their latest album Splinter which was originally gonna be called chinese democracy just to piss off Axel Rose but they decided to change it. You ever heard the song L.A.P.D. if not go download it. Truly one of their best songs ever. :D

god tool, i hate them and a great majority of their fans. honestly some of those kids would drop to their knees if maynard asked really nice... The offspring are okay, noodles is one of the better punk guitarists out their and his ibanez (i think that the brand) is really unique. I don't really care for dexter though.

Way too hard of a question. I like so much music that its nearly impossible to answer this. On one hand I could say Black Sabbath, for without them we would not have metal, or I could say Andres Segovia/Joe Satch/Vai/Malmsteen for being amazing virtuosos. I dont think its possible to say who the "best band of all time" is, unless you define catagories (and even then, it would be a very hard task).
