Here's a rendering of the aero they're creating in collaboration with Tra-Kyoto, makers to the Rocket Bunny kit.

If you have to ask...

Looks more to me like they're wrapping a hatch around a VR

Seeing the engine swap is cool, but because I know I'll never afford that I'm really more interested in the aero. It makes some subtle tweaks to the already awesome Rocket Bunny kit and thus blows it out of the water, IMO. Looks tons better than Ben Sopra's GTR aero to me and it more closely resembles the new 86's Rocket Bunny aero...

Ben Sopra's touch really help refresh the S13's classic lines more than the older Rocket Bunny kit and allow it to continue visually rivaling more contemporary releases, IMO.

Honestly I will never be able to grasp the visual appeal of exposed rivets...

On the matter of the VR, while it is quite an extraordinary achievement in fabrication, in a world where 1,000+ bhp Chevy V-8's can be dropped into S-chassis for half the cost, this sort of swap is relegated to the status of a publicity stunt who's only saving grace is that the jet turbine soundtrack from the twin turbos will probably obscure any trace of the flat, off-key sowing machine vocals of the VQ V6.

Sorry mate, but its the chassis and electronics that make the GT-R special, not the engine. Now the Corvette on the other hand... I think you get my point ;)

Well, obviously, we know that the S-chassis/exposed rivet love affair come from those who actually track their cars often and are more concerned with quickly replacing damaged body panels with overfenders. From there, it just spread to other car makes, kinda like a virus I guess. Definitely a love it or hate it thing. Took a while for it to grow on me.

As for the engine swap, I totally agree. It will be a rolling advertisement for their fabrication skills useful only for breaking traction. However, I actually prefer the sounds of the uncorked N/A VQ versus one muffled by turbos.

How could you not love that sound?

^^^I'm just hoping they'll mate it to the 370Z's transmission. R35 engine + manual transmission = :shifter:

You know, the more I think about this, I'm wondering how it's all going to work? This engine in the GT-R has its engine control system so closely tied in with the electronics that control the vehicle dynamics (traction control, stability control, the AWD system that can vary the torque going to each individual wheel, etc...) that the only way you're going to be able to get it to run is with a full stand-alone ECU. That is, unless they're really going to outfit the S-chassis with all the accelerometers, g-force sensors, hell the whole harness and control module needed to make that system work, which might actually be easier than configuring a stand alone to handle the VR lol. Although I guess you run into sort of the same thing when swapping an RB26, but I'd venture to guess its going to be a lot more involved with technology that's 10+ years more advanced.

Yeah, no way in hell they're gonna run the stock ECU.

But that's what I'm wondering, is there a stand alone that can handle that engine? You know it has to have more bells and whistles than what your off the shelf AEM EMS can run. I read it has a pressurized dry sump oiling system which I'm sure has about 13 different pressure sensors and solenoids and stuff. Also it has a throttle by wire system which is bound to be tied into the traction control which is probably also tied into the ignition and fuel mapping. Just a couple of examples. Really interested to see how they work around all of these issues. My guess is there are going to be quite a few unused connectors on that engine harness :chuckle:

Ben Sopra uses a Motec M800 on their RWD GTR with no problem.

I wish they made fender flairs like that for S14's. I love that look and holy hell could you you fit a lot of rubber under them!

This might be a publicity stunt but still a beautiful piece of machinery, it will definitely run lots of simulator type software to fool many of the sensors involved, does anybody know how many ecu/computers come with the gt-r?

They probably won't need to fool anything.
It's most definitely going to be running on a standalone ECU.

May not have Ben Sopra's name on the pic, but the aero still looks better than the old Rocket Bunny kit. However, I do love that spoiler! Would love to see this on the street. The GT wing and pink wheels in the other pic weren't doing it for me.

I thought the same thing. Even once the bumper's on, I'd still point and laugh at it, even while it walked away from me at WOT.

I'm surprised that the car wasn't rocking on the dyno. Also, I wish they had managed to fab up the AWD and get it integrated. That would have been pretty freaking cool to see.
