This is just unbelievable!! Car makers are saying that cars have become to complex for us "regular" people to work on. Mainly the computer systems. So there would be no more tuning or who knows what else since cars have so many computers in them.
There are way more smart people who work on cars then those who design them.
As one comment said "This is the most un-American thing I've heard"!
The DMCA rears its ugly head once again.

Meant to put this in General Chat, if one of the mods can move it. Thanks

You know this sort of nonsense was the reason they created the C++ programming language... That's what cars are today I guess.

Sorry to those who don't get what I said... I just had to geek it up a lil in here.

I'd like to lobby for an open-source car company to get started.

time for what? While everybody else was marveling at the technology I was seeing the writing on the wall. These things do not go away, they get worse. You WILL see all cars very soon hardwired to prevent tampering of any kind and you WILL see cars that tell some sort of authority, be it the company techs or the cops exactly what you are doing in your car. Like all new stuff it debuts in the flagship but as the technology becomes cost effective all cars will have this stuff. Print this out and take a close look at the tiny serial number your nifty printer puts on each page identifying your printer and subsequently you, same idea. I will not pay a car company 80K to have them second guess what I do with my car. You are welcome too if you want.
themadscientist wrote:Think so? I am willing to bet by the time the time limitation expires laws will be in place that will block it by other means. It will likely be a diagnostic and or emissions statute. Wake up dude, the government does not serve you, you serve it.
Wow, quoting myself, quoting MYSELF!

Keep chomping on that bait gents, technology is your friend, your governments and big business love you. Idiots, like lambs to the slaughter.
themadscientist wrote:well, this is more about this trend overall. All cars seem to be migrating to a state where they are effectively sealed off.
