I am a definite fan of any V6 over a IL4. Your gas mileage will suffer but that's true of any make or model. Bottom line: which is more FUN to drive? This will make a big difference on if you are happy with your purchase or not and it will make writing that check every month a whole lot easier. Sometimes practical is not the way to go. Buy something you are going to enjoy. Good luck! :dblthumb:

Not really. Only under ultra ideal laboratory conditions is that the case. In the real world, More cylinders almost always means you spend more time at lower RPM. Which means you're saving fuel.
When you're making more torque over more of the tach, you have more options. And when you have a transmission geared to take advantage of that, you win BIG.

This is why highway fuel economy isn't much different between V8s and 4-bangers. Corvette comes in below 2000rpm at 65mph. Only a V8 can pull that off. And with torque on demand all the time, you can pull off things like 2nd and even 3rd gear starts. I can leave my car in 3rd gear around town, never shifting, never seeing the tach needle cross the 3k mark. THAT is good for fuel economy. Turbos and tininess aren't.

So the 2.0t might be fun, but don't let the marketing folks fool you: it's not an economy tool. The 3.8 is capable of returning equal or better averages under normal driving conditions. And it'll do it smoother, sounding better, and NA. Oh, and making 50% more hp.

THAT'S IT?!?!?!!?!?!!?!? what a crock, if that isn't enough to tell you that the 4 banger is carp, then idk what to tell you. you won't be modding it as soon as you leave dealer property, you still have warranties to void. by the time you can change things without fear of losing your warranty, there will be tons of options for the v6, and you won't get bored waiting for that time to roll around.

I love this thing.

That one specifically with the BBS LM, but really all of them. Every time I see one on the road I just think how good-looking it is.

The Soul is currently outselling both the Cube and xB COMBINED. Hyundai/Kia is taking over the world.

V6 is my vote, but at the price of a V6 Genesis you can get a 370Z. You can get a Z34 for $29K just try :yesnod

OP here's what you're doing wrong. You're looking to buy a slow car to make it faster. Just buy a fast car and make that faster. I'm sure you can find a nice used fast car as a better platform than what this Genesis offers. This car came with a lot of hype behind it but came up with a bunch of letdowns. 2.0T or V6 are going to suck your wallet dry in a constant hunt to go faster. The new 2011 Mustang V6 will easily keep up and probably beat the V6 Genesis, let's not even talk about the 5.0's cause that will be like picking a fight with an infant.

Whoever suggested the "new" Mustang V6 is garbage and the Genesis V6 is better didn't read up on what Ford has had in the works. I've had a go at both of the 2.0T and the V6 and when I told the owners that their cars were "good" I was being nice and lying.

That is the single most horrifically ugly car ever conceived by man. And they're even uglier in person. Wheels can't compensate for ugly of that magnitude. "Lipstick on a pig" doesn't even come close.

It'll take a concerted effort to out-ugly the new Sonata. MAYBE Toyota could pull it off with a new Solara. But I doubt it.

Oh ha ha. Like I haven't heard something similar about it's looks. How about giving it a chance a$$, instead of following the crowd. Have you even seen one in person?

As far as aftermarket, it's pretty stable and growing, so no need to wait on parts. It's a fun little car, and worth more for your dollar.

Also, I sure as hell didn't say it had to be a '10 model.

I think part of the reason everyone gives the new 3 such a hard time is that its predecessor was one of the best looking and most widely-loved compact cars ever. Tough act to follow, and I think Mazda made a mistake in being so aggressive with the styling update. Magazines always b**** and moan about "evolutionary styling" but I think something more subtle and conservative would have been a better move.

That said, even considering the less appealing new looks, I can't think of a compact sedan I'd rather drive everyday.

Also, I'm voting 6 cylnider. It's gonna be a solid platform, that you won't need modding right off the lot to be happy. Test drive whatever you have in mind, before you purchase. Someone extremely smart in this thread said you need to be happy with your purchase, that way you don't hate the monthly payments as much. Unfortunately, I can't remember who the brilliant person is! ( ;) )

I totally agree with everything said here. For the price of the V6 Genesis, you could buy a GT Mustang instead. But which would you rather have? A 300hp car that keeps up with 350Z's or a 412hp car that keeps up with E92 M3's?

I would love for the Genesis to succeed, but Ford threw down the damned gauntlet with the new Mustang. Even at the price of the 2.0T Coupe, the V6 Stang will walk all over it...

Put your money on a C5 Z06, instead. The used Vette will smoke them all.

images aren't working, but one pic definitely shows "srs airbag" on the passenger dash and you can see where it would say it on the steering wheel.

Motortrend did a review of some of the cars you are looking at and liked the Genesis Coupe:

http://www.hyundaiusa.com/pdf/BK_MT_eprint_5_14_10.pdf

I bought a 2010 Genesis Sedan with the 4.6 and the tech package, and I'm very happy. it's not quite a Q45, but what is, these days?

The best online community I've found for the Genesis is

Bent steering wheels are what you want, iirc.
You don't want your head to come into contact with a solid thing of steel that won't bend.

Bending absorbs and dissipates energy. But it's still not as ideal as an airbag. And the amount of force required to bend the wheel is greater than what's required to do serious damage to bodyparts.
