Get the Genesis 2.0L Spec-R

Everything you want, nothing you don't. It'll be a fun turbo platform to play with.

Mustang V6 is a very compelling car indeed, but if the OP doesn't want the "muscle car" aesthetic, then it pretty much rules it out no matter how good it is.

OH, and PBM is either already released coils for the Genny or is about to.

Where is the option for an early 90s Honda?

*edit* Do you really have a Cobra? If so, what's the issue with that?
I will be graduating with zero debt, thank you. The Cobra was hydrolocked about a year ago. I just started the complete build/rebuild on the motor (Forged internals, H-beam rods, ARP hardware, high performance bearings, yada yada) this week. That car will be sold soon after the build is complete. It will have what is essentially a brand new engine that is super stout.

Let's not question how wise it is for me to get the car right out of school. I'm an economics major and am no dummy, especially when it comes to finances. Any more smartass, non-productive comments?

I appreciate the heartfelt opinions. Keep 'em coming!

*edit*: MOD, I find that our taste in car styling is vastly different. Not just on this occasion, but in most that have come to my attention.

Some people are just lucky.

I know of a guy 170k trouble-free miles on his Crossfire.

And Nissan's quality is nothing to brag about.

I still don't like the looks of the Genesis and I still don't trust Hyundai's long term build quality. But clearly those are personal opinions that are not the focus of this thread.

My opinion on the question of v6 vs. i4t is that the V6 is the smarter choice.
Sure the V6 is less tunable, but that is just today. As the tuner crowd continues to make new products, they will continue to explore ways to tune, decrease compression ratios, etc.. As much as we import guys hate the phrase, "there is no replacement for displacement".. It is a true statement. Sure you can boost a 4, but if you boost a 6 to the same pressure you'll make more hp.. just common sense. Today, the 4cyl. may be more tunable, but I bet 3 years from now, the 6 will be much more impressive and all the 4cyl guys will have wished they had gone that way.

Plus, the 6 should have a better resale value, and you won't lose money on the mods you put into it, because you won't need to put as many mods... You're the econ major, you will surely understand that!

Just my $.02

*edit.. the other thing that I'm curious about is the difference in weight between the two motors. Anybody have figures? If the 6 is a big heavy iron block pig, the extra weight would reduce it's appeal... I really have no clue on engine weights on those motors, and I don't have the time to do the research.. just curious.

3,488 lbs. for the 3.8 vs. 3,379 lbs. for the 2.0T. Not a very big difference, but Edmunds says it's noticeable.

I would go with the I4T. It will be better on gas and it's lighter. Plus, as others have said, it will be easier to modify down the road is you want.

Doesn't look head-on. I'm not defending the lack of deployment, just trying to understand it.

Exactly, and coming from the side like that I wouldn't necessarily expect the front air bags to deploy. Does the genesis come with side curtains? That is probably the more shocking thing missing.

I watched a 2011 V6 mustang get SPANKED by a Hyundai Sonata on the track in Omaha.

How much you looking to get for it?

Doing anything to the valvetrain?

Stock valvetrain. It's got new seats in the heads though. They're clean and like new. I'd like to see 10K out of it but we'll see.

didn't read the whole thread, but I test drove a 2.0T track, and was severely disappointed. All 3 of my cars would blow it away. The sticker said it had 210ish hp, but I don't know where the hell they were, cos they certainly weren't under the hood.

Its also cheaper. With the $6k and the money you saved buying the i4 you would have a more badass car then the v6

I drooled over my car since it first came out. I wanted that stupid thing so badly, it was nuts.

Now I have it, and I'm just "meh" about it. I know it's two different monsters between my car and the Genesis in question, but I never will I ever buy another new car. Ever.

Now I can't wait to get rid of the thing.

Agreed.

I really like my Genesis. Good reliable car with lots of power. The aftermarket has been slow to provide for the V6, but it's catching up. I personally know multiple V6 owners that plan to hit the 400-500whp by the end of this year.

Korean cars need to stop looking Korean. The Genesis sedan is a good example of such progress. The Genesis couple is not.

And what do Korean cars look like? They look like standard Japanese cars from a decade ago.

And no, that's not "retro" since it doesn't evoke any particularly good emotions.

I like the way they look, but the 2.0T is a turd....but it is the Diamond of a bunch of FWD turds...at least is RWD boosted turd

I drove a stock one, it felt really overpowered....and felt flimsy, and I didnt like gearbox...

...just sayin, and Ive never driven the V6 one
