oh and another thing i found out where not to lift your car is the stabilizer bars i didn't do this one but my "mechanic" friend did this. He went to lift the front of my car up with his jack by the stabilizer bar when he got it about a foot up, the shock shot right through the top insulator mount, the thing that goes on top of the shock bolted to the tower. then it fell down and through the tower and the tire just dangled there. it kinda looked like what the tires do on the DeLorean when it fly's away in BACK TO THE FUTURE. i was soooo pleased with him.... .

I have always put cars on the lift by their frame rails.. it should not cause any damage.

I can see a little rinky dink a** jack messing up a frame rail having all of the pressure on that one point, but a 4 point lift with even distribution of the cars weight would be perfectly fine.

They drove my car on the lift but because of the type they have there I told them to use a floor jack. This is the kind of lift they had.

With the Navan Skirts on it would have totally Fubar'd them because of how they wrap around the bottom so the jack would have squished them until the body was on the jack.

Well I got a call from DT and they are sending their adjuster out to my house on Thursday morning to take a look at the damage and lowball me on an estimate... I'll let you know Thursday what happens.

Did you get a private estimate yet? I would, one from a collision shop the other from the dealers body shop

is that what messed it up? we have those kind of lifts at my work and they work good for a lot of compact cars including my s14...we have rubber mats on top of the lifts and they are pretty long so the weight is distributed more evenly.

floor jack on frame rail is a big no no, all the weight is focused on that small 9 square-inch area of the floor jack that will f*** your car up...i speak from experience ..yeah my frame rails are a tad tweaked

No that's the kind of lift they have and I wouldn't let them use it because it would F up my sideskirts. That's why they used a jack only I didn't know the retard was going to use the frame rail.

The independent appraiser from DT came out yesterday to take pictures and shoot the perverbial sh*t. Turns out he was a HUGE Nissan guy and has been doing autobody on Nissan and Infiniti for almost 20 years. He was totally on my side but said I would probably have to convince DT that they did it. Well since I do all my own maintenance and their business is the only one I HAVE to go to to get something done it "shouldn't" be that hard.

If they want to play hard ball I can take'em to court, since I'm in the military I can get legal counsel for FREE!!! I hope they man up if not I can feel a serious dent in my time will follow.

Soooo..... I got an update.

Today at about 10am I get a delivery from FedEx. Discount Tire has sent me a check for $598.45.

They quoted:

$122.25 for the replacement framerail (I can get it from Courtesy Parts for $102.00) For labor the total estimate comes out to $465.50 which includes removal and reinstallation of the seat/carpet/repair of floor pan (mildly pushed in).

So what do you guys think? I have yet to actuall get it appraised by a shop but I was thinking of just buying the rail and installing it myself, and then pocketing the extra money for goodies on the car!!

Never had to do this before so suggestions would be appreciated.

Anyone ever mess with the frame rails?

I've seen a build where someone cut out all the uni-body's frame rails and welded in 2 mandrel bent box steel poles. Very clean and awesome looking. They said it made the entire car 1000% more stiff in sharp and high speed cornering. I think it was on NICO, but don't hold me to it.If you buy the metal and weld it yourself you could probably keep the cost under $300 or $400 with some really high grade steel.

if you can prove they did it, then you can make them fix it.. usually to keep you quiet about it they'll do nice things for you too.

Well I went to the collision center that handles all of the county's Nissan dealership's cars and they quoted me another $180 for a total of $768

They tacked on another 2 hours to fix the floor pan and added in rediculous action items like removing the kick panel trim (takes me like 10 seconds to remove) along with another hour to remove the carpet including the rear lower seat cushion which wasn't on the adjuster's estimate.

I'm just gonna take the money and get it fixed later.

It would be hard to get cut weld square steel to conform to those curves. You can find square die mandrel benders at a metal reputable metal manufacturer or yard.OR..You can can do an angle cut square pipe and cut the cost big time. It's like taking a little triangle out of the metal then bending it closed and welding it.
