I spoke to a nissan master tech in town here. He told me that the sr20det was a motor that was developed by an outside contractor. Its kind of like the same thing that the Ford's focus zx3 motor isnt made by fors at all. Its made by mazda. The SR was of course developed in collaboration with nissan engineers, but it is not actually produced by nissan. Of course...i cant say this from experience, it is info that was passed on to me froma master tech here in town. He wroks at the dealership about 2 mins from my house. So hes helped me out quite a few times, and hasnt let me down once.SO, nah, im not nuts. its really not that hard to beleive if you think about it. WE are the ones that drive nissan to develop performance cars due to sales. Its not like they develop cars just to make 400+ hp. They are designed for longevity, and durability. Its just a bonus that tuners can take advantage of this. And to make profits, they use engine developers to cut down on costs to keep the MSRP from shooting through the roof.

no, sorry dude. thats wrong info. i am a nissan dealer tech and also a certified master technician. ford owns a good portion of mazda just like daimler crysler owns most of mitsu. also gm owns most of isuzu and some of subaru. nobody owns honda. renault owns like 30-40%(not sure just how much) of nissan. nissan just recently came under the renault umbrella. it was of course way after the sr20 came around. in fact nobody(including renault) tells nissan how to make engines. nissan does however supply engines to some others(ford and renault). nissans specialty is engines. they make really good ones without any help. i just wanted you to know that. there are some remarkable similaritys between the l series and some older mercedes engines but nothing has been proven.

by the way, did i mention that guy gave you bad info? its kinda important you know that it is wrong.

Thats most likely the reason that skylines came with KAs in them...because they are better than RBs.

I think it's great that nissan strives to build what is considered a "supercar", (R34) but i guess i'm dissapointed that they put the KA in it. Damn...even the Silvia's in Japan came with KAs...because they are better than SRs. Who has ever heard of the USA getting the short end of the stick with motors from Japan. We ALWAYS get the best motors for each chassis...thats why we got the KA in the S13s and S14s, because it is a FAR superior engine to the SR. And i'm SURE that if nissan brought the skyline over, they would put the "all powerfull, super built, sick ***" Ka in it. WHy?...because the SR sucks...because the RB sucks. And those asses at nissan have no clue what their doing in their own country, so the amercan side of nissan hs to show them whats up when they bring cars over

As you might have noticed...this is called sarcasm. I'm just being funny...no reason to get pissy.

i thought that was good, so good i eventually bought an RB25DET. these motors were very lightly worked, all still running the tiny standard intercooler and two were auto yet they still managed near to or better than stock crank output at the wheels.

BTW The conversion for KW to HP is .7457:1 so 170-200 rwkw is roughly 230 - 270 rwhp. which is pretty good...
