Right now I am studying engineering and I am not sure if its something I want to pursue. Ever since I was small I wanted to be a police officer but never thought about doing it because I always thought that it was extremely dangerous and the pay rate was horrible. That, and my parents never wanted me to be one. I've been thinking about what I want to do with my life, and I'd rather be happy with my career then regretting having to go to work everyday.

That being said I've been doing a lot of research regarding this career but I have some questions that need to be answered.

How long does it take to become a police officer?

Do you like being a police officer?

Are you please with your salary and benefits?

How dangerous is it being a police officer?

Stay in school, if you really think you're cut out for being an officer and want to do it, then do it after college. The degree will be useful whether you decide to go into that field or not. Some people love being a police officer, some don't. The pay isn't wonderful in most cases but it all depends on the area, it can be dangerous and some areas require you to constantly take physical tests to keep your qualifications. My father in law is a federal agent and was an officer for 10 years and he said he'd never do it again, mainly because of the physical tests, the hours, and the pay.

Nice one, Dave.

If you want to go into law enforcement, go Federal. US Marshals or something. I know lots of people who are high up in that kind of thing. The Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) is in Brunswick, GA where I am from. You go there, you learn, you get a badge and a gun, and then you can go enforce or whatever. Don't know how long it takes. A year or so I guess.

Go here for more information.

You can certainly play municipal cop, but its never going to compensate you the way a career in engineering would, unless you do what sbird said.

hmm that website sounds interesting.

I am just not sure what I want to do with my life. Engineering is a very hard major, and I want to be happy with my career.

At first, I thought you wanted to report to a cop your profound realization that Mazda and Hyundai have similarly shaped tail lights.

For what to do with your life, there are many here that would suggest you end it.

Did you honestly think Engineering was gonna be easy like basket weaving?

Based on the law enforcement folks I know, you don't have the temperment, people skills, or common sense necessary for law enforcement. Instead of obsessing about not getting laid, perhaps you should get off your arse and seek out a real career counselor before you waste more of your parent's money.

In assessing your strengths and qualifications against a list of known career paths, I think we have a winner:

Celibate? Check.

Martial arts? Check.

Dark complexion? Check.

Buddhist monk.

My work here is done.

Im in the process for Baltimore City. You have to be somewhat smarter then you are. I dont think Police would like 2x4 snowplows on the cop cars.

This is just another way for Nala to get in a girls pants except for one thing, he would never arrest himself for rape. Best place to hide a tree is in the forest.

Well, that certainly qualifies you. I envision you getting shot by the first officer that's gets stuck assigned to you as a partner.

you know being Police is not all about pursuits and bustin caps. You have to do alot of other not so awesome things like traffic control and frisking naked mexicans. just sayin...
