Flight delays over the entire nation due to a computer glitch as reported on CNN. Over 5000 flight delays

The FAA and air traffic control computers should have been upgraded years ago but when you have a president spending billions on a useless war instead of United States infrastructure this is what happens. The S#it has finally hit the fan and all the millions of travelers now stuck at airports will remember who caused this problem come November.

I don't think so. I think the average person is going to only remember that their last flight on XXXXXX airline they were delayed and they'll blame the airline or just call it SNAFU. It won't swing many votes one way or the other.

This sounds like a bit of a stretch on your part Telco.. Can you find me an article or trustworthy source that proves that FAA technology has been put on the back burner due to lack of funding because of the war effort?

Or is this just an assumption made by a critic of Bush?

I think you answered your own question:

Telco still thinks Reagan was a bad guy for calling out the ATC Union in the 80's... But he's the only one.

It's been pretty widely reported one way or the other...I think blaming the system is appropriate, maybe not whatshiswname though.

By Associated Press | June 15, 2007

WASHINGTON -- An antiquated flight-plan computer system overdue for replacement was largely to blame for lengthy air-travel delays on the East Coast last week, critics say.

The Federal Aviation Administration has been slow to replace the system, said David Spero, a regional vice president for Professional Airways Systems Specialists, the union that represents FAA technical workers. A lack of training on how to repair the outdated technology made the situation worse, he added.

If you're going to blame Bush for this, you might as well blame Clinton, too. Probably several administrations before Clinton, also.

Many government IT systems are held together with duct tape and chewing gum.

Well, lets assume for a moment that it is Bush's fault. How does that affect my vote considering Bush isn't on the ballot?

And Obama isn't the latest charismatic puppet to be put up by the Democratic party? Don't worry I'm sure he'll write books and make videos about how bad Americans are when he loses.

Let me sum up partisan politics:

"They are doing this!""Didn't we do that last election?""Yeah but now we can slander them for it!"

Both parties do the same thing, both parties put up the candidate they think has the best chance of winning, not the best person for the job.

Obama is more of the same for the democrats. He comes out and says whatever is popular according to the CNN polls. Later rinse repeat. If "public opinion" changes, they shift like a plastic bag in the wind. The Republicans criticize, the dems call the Republicans stagnant. The dems make sales pitches that appeal to the middle class, because that's where most of the votes are. The dems run it like a popularity contest. *cough*Bill Clinton*cough* Everyone gives him credit for the "surplus." All he did was have a congress that would vote with him consistently. History shows that is when things get done, whether it is the Dems or the Republicans in charge. Clinton made his "surplus" by slashing military benefits and selling off military assets. Then when we do get into a war, all the Dems are bitching because our Humvees aren't properly outfitted. Why don't you go ask Clinton where it all went? GWB spent a ton money to repair the damage Clinton did to our military.

He's already off to a good start - He bashes us in front of German and French crowds (who could give a damn), claims he's "embarassed" when he travels abroad, and has a spouse who famously exhibited her distaste for the country that gave them a chance to "make it".

Yeah, more of the same from the left, too. What's new? What's novel? What's fresh? What's different?

Hope? Change?

DETAILS, brother. Details.

I lean pretty far left on most major social issues, but that's a rediculous argument to make. Try comparing and contrasting the positions of each candidate more specifically on each issue and this will be much more constructive. Or perhaps how McCain's policy on this issue would be the same as Bush's. This is the same kind of argument made by those who make a general claim that Obama is inexperienced.

You know what happens when you cry wolf all the time? You lose any respect from others for any of the positions that you try to espouse.

This above is such a silly, UNinformed stretch to call this issue "Another Bush Failure" that, as far as I am concerned, I am now automatically opposed to anything you say or express an opinion on. Even if I might have been partially supportive towards some of the stuff you have mentioned in the past.

Fact: unreasonably extreme, radical, positions, statements and opinions, cause centrists like me to oppose anything said by those radicals, in complete disdain and disgust!

This is not intended to be a personal flame ... I call it polarization.

The fact remains. The FAA has suffered through years of substandard equipment. This isn't new news. In fact, I remember hearing of their equipment being antiquated before Busk took office, so it must be stone age by now.

This fact has been known for years and the current administration has had 8 years to do something about it and of course, GW's done nothing. (He's the leader, it's his watch). Next time you fly, think about the decades old computer system guiding your aircraft safely on it's way. Think about how your tax dollars might have been better spent while sitting on the ground due to computer glitches which caused you to missing your scheduled business meeting.

Neither did his predecessor.

Our entire infrastructure is crumbling. Bridges, highways, water systems, levees, etc...

This is NOT "new news", folks. While we were spending money on "Head Start" and "D.A.R.E." and "CARB" and other useless programs, our bridges, dams and levees were collapsing.

Maybe we could fix those things if some people weren't constantly trying to cut taxes...

Do we forget that the government spends all that tax money in the US anyway? It comes back to the people. I bet we could lower unemployment if we put together some civil repair crews.

If the pansyass lawyers would get the hell out of the way, we could employ our entire incarcerated population as cheap labor in repairing our infrastructure.

But NOOOOO... they get to lay on a cot and watch cable TV.

The solutions are there. The problem is, someone's always whining about "fairness" in an unfair world.

So sorry my posts of all the failings of the present administration are getting to some of you.

Trying to support all of these failed policies and mismanagement of two wars is getting increasingly difficult for some of you.

Thats ok, I understand

The American people understand & I'm sure they will all be making the right choice.

I felt a proud moment a short while ago watching the entire NJ delegation cast all votes for the next President of the United States Barack Obama.
