Well I'm glad to hear the cylinder isn't cracked. The lower timing sprocket is always a bear to get off. It will probably take some heat from a torch to get it loose. It should just slide on an off. I've been putting anti-seize on mine and it's fine now, but it was really hard to take off the first time I ever tried to take it off.

Some people have had to drill and tap holes in it to get it off, and others have had to completely cut it off.

Yeah out of everything so far. this is the spot ive been stuck at. I did torch it some. But ive read in old posts, members started to get knock after using the torch on the crank sprocket. So i decided the drill and tap it. Ive got it almost tapped. After thats off ill get to the machine shop process. Im going to bore it over. How much i havent decided. Then i have to figure out what i want to do about pistons. And what compression ratio id like. I have alot of measuring yet to do.

So the crankshaft is out. The block is going to be off the the machine shop soon. Bored over. What made me curious was another member made a comment in an old topic about how he wished he would have had his cylinders bored to 83.42mm to size his CP 83.5mm pistons. Can i get some two cents in on that?

And i havent mentioned it yet before but my DE came with the 8 port head. Ive read this is rare. But why? Does it have a better airflow than the 4 port? I was just curious if all DE's came with the 8 port head?

Most CA18's were 8 ports, unless you're in Europe. They got the 4 ports.

My CP Pistons are 84mm, not sure what the actual bore spec was, but I went with what was on the sheet they sent me (I just gave it to the shop...).

Why would you bore them smaller than the pistons? Are they underrated that much? I mean even if it was 83.42mm cold and 83.5mm hot, if you only bored to 83.42 then you're in trouble once it heats up...

yea, I'm not sure what post you're referencing, but you wouldn't bore the cyldiner smaller than the piston diameter.

My CP "83.5mm" set, as in "+0.5mm", as in first service oversize, were actually of 83,38 - 83,39mm diameter (IIRC) (SKIRT, not top, before someone jumps on me :) ). With the piston-to-bore clearance requirement on the spec sheet I got with it, my bores needed to be around ~83,42 or ,45. Again, IIRC. But it was most definitely NOT a 83.50mm bore, that it called for, it was way under that. The member that made that comment might have got the same kind of pistons as me.

I got my set from frsport, and on the spec sheet I got, the "Customer" field said "Phase2"... I'm guessing what I got may have been an old Phase2MT custom order on file. Other custom CP orders for the CA-DET may have had different dimensions, different material, and as such, different requirements for bore size. Mine were high expansion, low silicon ones. Who knows if you'll get the same if you order elsewhere...

If you don't have the measurement tools necessary, just hand over the spec sheet and the pistons to the shop when you drop the block off. Don't just give them the block and ask for 83.50mm. Wait until you have your pistons.

CP uses 2618 in almost all pistons, they have 4032 also but no forgings that is usable in CA dimmensions.

I *think* mine were the first 84mm set, so whether they were ==84mm or not, they should at least be unique (at the time) and not a recycled profile.

Maybe I'll dig out the box with the sheet in it (should still have it, just not sure where it's buried at the moment) for curiosity's sake...
