Thus far my biggest pet peeve is that the manual stick shift knob needed much more ergonomics effort. It is not padded and does not fit the hand at all. No palm shape, just a squarish hunk of plastic on top a stick. Maybe that's the racing look but normal people do not wear thick fire resistant gloves while driving. I wish I could replace it with a nice leather topped and ergonomic shaped aftermarket stick but am not sure about the reverse gear pull up ring located under the stick's top knob. Any ideas?
Really it's sad that my old Ford Probe GT, while not such a nicely built car was really better designed with more thought and priority given to control ergonomics. Its dash, windows, stick, lights, wheel, A/C controls all fit and made sense as to shape, location, reach, and tactical feel. Those in the Altima while not bad, could have been better thought out. I hope I get use to the Altima's soon.
Other nit pickings:
My Chevy truck has better options to vary times to turn lights on/off, lock doors, change computer displays, dink with sound system, play with mileage computer, etc. Then again it's a top of the line truck, but then again I looking at a top of the line Altima package as well. But hey, at least the Altima has a touch screen Nav/radio. It's not state-of-the-art but it does an ok job.
BTW I second the opinion that the TAC should have been placed on the right side. While holding the wheel at the 10-11 o'clock position my arm gets in the way of viewing the TAC. Please consider swapping the MPH & TAC so that the MPH on left and TAC is on right. I could use the readout while adjusting from a 5 speed to 6 and a 2.5L to a 3.5L. Nice pickup.
Visibility is poor, (very poor in relation to the old Probe). I know styles change. My old Probe had a fighter cockpit's greenhouse in comparison to an Altima's b0mber. O well, I know the Altima's look is in fashion right now. Lots of cars have the short windows and big C pillar look. I will just have to adjust my scans. (Better mirrors?)
Trunk space is really minimal when compared to the Probe's hatch. The days of hauling lots of camping gear and 8 foot 2x4s are over. Thank God I have a truck now. How you get stuck with such a smaller interior in a larger car's exterior is beyond me. I guess it is because of the larger engine compartment.
Well, you might think this is a petty negative post. I guess it is but there are many, many great things I like about the Altima Coupe. It's really a great car! I am just hoping that lessons learned from the first year's model will soon be rolled into latter year's productions. Maybe I will like it enough to get another one in a few years.
