Went to the dyno Saturday and ran 8 runs. I was leaning out everytime around 3100rpms when it started to boost. We think the FMU is bad. So I am sending the part back to PJ this am and and will have wait to receive my replacement. On a good note he had a 240sx that had a turbo that made 250hp and mine was making 15hp more then the other 240sx at 3000rpms. So I will have to wait until the part comes back before I can do more testing. I want to get the best results from the stage 1 kit before I do anything else. If the motor holds up I think I will later this year upgrade to the AEM and replace the fuel system.

NO NO!! I am sorry you missed understood. Blake at Walker Dyno had stored a Dyno run on his computer that had a 240sx that made 250HP at the wheels with a turbo kit on it. He compared mine and his at only at 3000RPM. When comparing mine to his at that RPM level mine was making about 15 more HP at the wheels. I really can`t remember how much HP level mine was making at that RPM because I left the Dyno print in the 240. I will be going back to get it Dynoed and tuned after I fix my lean issue. I just mailed the FMU off this morning. I will have to wait for a replacement before I can do anymore tuning. To bad I don`t know anybody who has one I can borrow to test this weekend.

running lean will definitly give you a boost in power.

did you happen to have anyone watch your fuel pressure gauge (im pretty sure you said you had one) to see if the fmu was adding pressure?

Ok I am going to be honest here(I have made so many mistakes I can no longer keep track!) I had the fuel gauge hooked up wrong during the Dyno tests. The fuel gauge was hooked up between the FMU and the FPR. I went to a friend of mines house and he pointed it out to me( I will leave his comment out of this one). So we hook it up on the pressure line between the fuel filter and the fuel line. The pressure was reading around 35 which is what it is suppose to read. He starts applying pressure to the FMU at idle and it only goes to 50psi. So he gets out his vice grips and clamps the return line and it goes up to 60psi. We drive it again with the vice grips on and this time it doesn`t bog until it hits 10pounds of boost. The waste gate is suppose to open at 8. So I sent off the FMU to BD yesterday morning and I ordered this tool kit today.

http://www.mityvac.com/kits.ht...vekit

It will test my FMU, BOV, wastegate and vacuum sources. Also bleed your brakes and Clutch. Apply pressure to your radiator to check your radiator cap and for leaks. I wanted a tool to tell me what actuated devices works and what doesn`t work so now I no longer have to guess. I only paid 67bucks shipped. IMO I think everybody who plans on boosting should have one of these kits and a fuel gauge.

I have made so many mistakes I hope somebody will be helped by my stupidity!!

My kit should come in tomorrow so I will have time to read the manual and play with it before I start testing the wastegate this weekend.

you know my car is/was exactly like yours i swear to god... when i got everything together i ran it for a little while without intercoler and all and didn't boost while i broke in the turbo. i had a power steering leak and an oil leak, which i am pretty sure is the front main seal. i am getting the intercooler soon and will have everything together in the next week or so hopefully. it runs fine, just have to plug the fmu in, hook up my a/f and boost gauges and hook up the wastegate vacuum and boost lines and all that stuff... it was funny reading your posts because it was just like reading something i would have written about my car...

Glad you are enjoying the reading. I wanted to be honest and accurate on my posts even if it meant showing my stupidity. I hope that others will benefit from the problems I run into.My 04050 kit came in last night. http://www.mityvac.com/kits.ht...vekit

I really think this is a must tool to have in your tool box. I played with it last night and it is easy to use. The book that came with it even showed you how to use it to trouble shoot blown head gaskets, burnt valves etc. Not bad for 67bucks. I am going to use it to test the replacement FMU the wastegate. It will also come in handy when I replace my slave clutch cylinder. If it is not to cold this weekend I will test it out on the wastegate and see what happens.

UpdateI talked to PJ this week and he suggested me to open the wastegate and see what spring was in it. So I decided to test the wastegate with my new mityvac tool. I was unable to get the wastegate to open. So I end up taking the wastegate off the car. When I took apart the wastegate(BE VERY CAREFULL WHEN YOU DO THIS) It is under a lot of pressure from the spring and those screws are hard to find! Anyway when I took the spring out it had a Big Blue Spring! According to the chart it will not open until 14.5psi, when it is suppose to open at 8 psi. PJ said he was going to send me a green spring when he shipped me back the FMU( If you remember last post the FMU was not working correctly).

My only concern is that even if I had the wrong spring in the wastegate appying pressure to the wastegate boost port it should have opened at 14.5psi. The wastegate is actuated by pressure on the diaphram, this is how you would test to see if it opens at the correct PSI level.

When I finally get this project finished I am going to write up a document that will tell you things you need to do before you start installing your components.

Now I will have to wait until I get my replacement parts.

I started a new thread on how to test the wastegate. Glad other people are benefitting from my install problems! Hopefully I receive my parts this week and try it again. I will say this that you always learn more from mistakes then if everything went well.

I would send it to you if I didn`t plan on going higher boost. I hope to get my kit installed, dynoed and tuned in the next few weeks. The next step is to decide which route I am going to go on.

1. Install AEM, wideband, upgrade the fuel system, increase boost and see how long that KA will last.

2. Pull the motor and rebuild it for more boost and then do step one.

I am leaning towards step one that way if I blow it up I could always rebuilt it or get a junk motor and start over again.

I figure I will have to spend around 2.2k on step one and around 2k on step 2. So let me see my friend is going to buy a brand new 2006 Cobra with 500hp for I don`t know 30k? I am guessing I am only 5k away from the power I need to beat him and isn`t that what it is all about ?

The '06 Cobra will have an underrated 460ish HP and will start at $39k (that's with the live suspension and base wheels/tires). They are going to rule the streets after a year or so. I can't wait to see how they do up against the new Z06's. It's hard to say with one is a better value. I'd go with the Vette.

I don`t know about that. Hmm if I had just 20k what kind of monster I could build my 240 into? Let me see spend 10k on the drivetrain and another 10k on the body and interior. I think I would like my custom 240 better then the Vette. If I had to spend 40k I would rather get a skyline!!!

Waiting on the FMU and new wastegate spring. I am also going to need new gaskets for the wastegate.

One of the gaskets broke in half when I was removing the wastegate. I guess I will order an extra set of gaskets incase I have anymore problems.

Sounds good I will have to get a AIM account I use Yahoo. I am very interested in the AEM. I know it cost a lot but I think if you compare it to doing the JWT, SAFC and boost controller you are getting close to cost for the AEM and no way near the capabilities.
