I still think the iPad is a cool device, I just don't have a use for a huge iPod touch still and I hate the 10" screen size. The Nook screen size is more to my liking and it's reasonably priced as well. The price is the biggest selling point for me, it does just what I would need from a tablet and doesn't offer me a bunch of crap I don't need.Jesda wrote:So far, the nook is "pretty good" at everything but amazing at nothing. The Kindle was a lighter reader, the iPad was a much better tablet and entertainment device, but I definitely got my money's worth and more. I'll be even happier when Zinio is finally released on Android Marketplace.

I used to be a fan but the new UI annoys me. I'm really enjoying Dolphin.PoorManQ45 wrote:Opera Mini > * when stuck on edge or very weak 3G signal. It doesn't display active content, but websites load >10x faster.
See I disagree with the size, it's too awkward to use to me and I want something that can easily go in the front pocket of my laptop backpack, that's just my personal hang ups though. I will agree that iOS is always more refined and works perfectly out of the box in most cases, I wouldn't rule out an iPad if it were the right price either. I figure by the time I get ready to buy a tablet, i'll be able to have a choice of a refurb iPad as well, they're already $429 in the Apple store for refurbs so if it gets under $400 then I may be more interested in it.Jesda wrote:Size is one of the best things about ipad. At 7" the nook isn't much nicer than an evo, just cheaper. Ipad puts the world in your hands. Nook crops it. Just about every single thing that iOS does is more refined and more natural, but Apple charges a lot for that attention to detail. So for 50% less, the nook is a nice value-driven alternative.
There's also no Netflix or HTML5. The flash implementation doesnt work on Nook. Netflix is still a problem, even with 2.2.

You can get there in a Cadillac or a Corolla, but the Corolla will take you there for a lot less money.
Yeah I think the update is going to make quite a bit of difference for it. Give the SetCPU app a try and set it to max at 800mhz and set the minimum to 600mhz, my father in laws is set to that and it's working good. It's set to run at 600mhz stock, even though it's 800mhz. He found out about that on XDA and it seemed to take care of all of the lag he had.Jesda wrote:Skyfire kept hanging and choking when I tried it. I liked the interface though. I bet this will all smooth out when they update to 2.2.
Galaxy Tab is, so far, the best Android tablet I've ever used but holy hell is it overpriced. I'd want at least a 9" size since 7" still can't fit in my pocket.
I read somewhere (maybe nookdevs?) that the CPU was set lower to avoid the battery overheating.A33 wrote:Yeah I think the update is going to make quite a bit of difference for it. I haven't seen any issues with the battery, the more I think about it though, I agree with Brien that scaling doesn't make sense although my father in law is running his at that with no issues and he gets 24+ hrs on a charge. I would set the minimum to as low as you can but still set the high to 800mhz, there shouldn't be any reason that the battery will overheat from that but if you're worried about it then download an app called Battery Indicator Pro, it'll tell you battery information including the temp.Jesda wrote:I read somewhere (maybe nookdevs?) that the CPU was set lower to avoid the battery overheating.A33 wrote:Yeah I think the update is going to make quite a bit of difference for it. Vlingo would be what you're looking for, works very well and is free. It has tons of voice commands to control various things on the phone as well. You can write emails, text messages, make phone calls, all with voice commands or you can type the commands as well. It's a great app.tigersharkdude wrote:So guys, and tina, I start my droid journey today....I have a question
As some of you may know I am severely deaf. With that being said, I have have heard that there is an app that allows someone to talk into the phone, that will translate it into written word/text. Anybody know the name of said app?
Thanks
A33 is correct about the apps. and you can find the icon graphics at:orangeNblue wrote:RobPaulson wrote:

Exactly. I absolutely agree. I feel like the Nook is the PERFECT size. It's big enough to be easy on the eyes but still small enough to fit in my jacket pocket or just hold in my hand without feeling awkward. I just wish the folding covers B&N sells for the thing weren't so damn FAT. They add a LOT of thickness to the device, and the fold is so broad that you can't really use the thing two-handed with the cover on. My friend's kindle has a very slim, simple cover that folds back and stays out of the way. Until someone makes a thinner cover for the thing, I'm sticking with the rubber "condom" and screen protector.A33 wrote:See I disagree with the size, it's too awkward to use to me and I want something that can easily go in the front pocket of my laptop backpack, that's just my personal hang ups though.
There's no way in hell a Nook would fit in any standard pocket unless you were John Goodman with massive shirts, or unless you're stuck in the 90s and wear cargo pants. Its too big for that -- its not a smartphone. The Evo already pushes the limits of what's realistically pocketable. Anything bigger than 4.5" is "I can squeeze it in there, but I'd be a freaking goofball for doing so".MinisterofDOOM wrote:Exactly. I absolutely agree. I feel like the Nook is the PERFECT size. He said a jacket pocket though, which I have 3 jackets that I know for sure that it will fit in but there's no way the iPad would.Jesda wrote:There's no way in hell a Nook would fit in any standard pocket unless you were John Goodman with massive shirts, or unless you're stuck in the 90s and wear cargo pants. Thus, anything over 5" should just be 9-10". The Nook isn't that light either, so it would cause your shirt to sag badly in one spot and you'd look like a doofus.
The douchey Kindle ads show people slipping them into their back jean pockets. Nice way to destroy a device and scratch up an e-ink screen. You can shove a Ford Excursion into a compact spot if you try hard enough, but you shouldn't.
