Would this be available for the KA24e as well?

"the stock ecu is very conservative, so it shouldn't be a big surprise to see results like this"

it is, considering my engines been tuned by ed at balanced performance (http://www.dynotuner.net I think) whom also tuns the c5r ALMS cars, and the speed vision worl touring cars for many race teams...

I'd love to try it out and see how much I can net if it's really that good...

JWT is telling me with their ECU and cams, I'll have my 190rwhp KA..

we'll see soon ;)

I jsut doubt any engine management system can net that much hp with no ancineriary(sp?) mods..

whoa, big word, i looked it up and it says it ancillary...serving as an aid or subsidiary...auxillary. I couldn't find another word spelled like that... Just trying to help those of us who aren't so literate.:)

My buddy has a Supra and is actively involved with a lot of the Supra owners. They all seem to be running AEM. I'll be getting an AEM as my next 'power' mod. Nissan tunes their ECUs VERY conservatively, and there are serious gains to be made.

It only matters if you are driving an OBD-II car. Pre-95 vehicles don't need to hook up their ECUs to the smog computers.

I just found out one of my buddy's car was used for that testing. He was not there for either of the dynos so he can not testify to anything. I'll try to get more info as I talk to him further. I think they still have the car so I do not think he has had a chance to even do a butt dyno test.

it seems pretty good but are we paying a little extra for plug and play? I mean what makes AEM above maybe a used electromotive, haltech, microtech, motech, or even wolf?

If you've seen the AEM stanalones then you'd see how simple, yet what a complete system they are. I know I'll be going with a AEM in the future.

Having installed/tuned cars with the EMS, Haltech's (mostly E6k's), and a few Tec2 and Tec3 cars, I can definitively say that the EMS (as of software v.98 or so) is just much easier to work with.

The plug and play ability is just scratching the surface of it. Between the support AEM offers directly through their message boards (you can speak just about anytime to one of the engineers that actively develops it), the software design (it has to be one of the best on the market), the number of general configurable I/O's on the ECU itself, and a ton of other features.

I personally am waiting until the EMS comes out. I was going to go power-fc d-jetro just to try something new (i've never tuned an FC before), but honestly, i'd rather wait for the AEM :)

It is difficult to compare what JWT does to what the EMS does. JWT flashes new proms at their location and ships them to you. The EMS is tuned on a dyno specifically for your car.

ok...I have reviewed more info on the matter, and the ems seems pretty good. Now being a standalone (w/a certain car design in mind) can we still say, use it later on an sr20 w/custom harnesses, or go to a totally different route or engine if we wished to by changing fuel maps, etc...? If so, how come ppl have not used AEM ems before on their own 240's? Also, it says we'll use stock sensors etc....so what if I want to go with a MAP or TPS and ditch the MAF? Can we still do it by splicing here and there and still retain manufacturer warranty?

The AEM EMS is designed to be plug and play with a specific wiring harness, that's why they have different applications for different cars. That said, the main design for the AEM is that there is a main board which is common between all the EMS applications, and then there is a 2nd board inside the case that handles the harness, as well as application specific interface (such as the fact that ford MAP sensors behave strangely). I would imagine a jumper harness could be made provided the hardware interface on the KA and the SR EMS's are the same.

To be honest, your best bet is going to be to register on the AEM message board and ask there. Here you're only getting the responses from people like me who have used the EMS on other cars, there you'll get responses from the engineers working for AEM who are actually developing the unit :)

If this post was directed towards me...yeah I know what Jim Wolf does, but when I mean Wolf (in my post) I mean WolfEMS from australia and their main product WOLF3D (which is a standalone and not a flash)..http://www.wolfems.com.au/home

Will this be available for the SOHC ka24e? I'm also wondering how this affects gas mileage?

It should be. AEM is listing part number 30-1600 as working for 89-94 240sx's. I'd imagine the basemaps will be a bit different for a SOHC as opposed to DOHC, but the EMS itself is the same.

It's listed on all distributors sites, but it's not for sale yet. The AEM engineers themselves have said the Nissan EMS isn't being released for a minimum of 1-1.5 months from now.

In the interests of total disclosure...

The engineer just posted this.

"The 95-98 240SX come standard with both a MAP sensor and a MAF sensor. This dyno was with the MAP sensor only.

Note: The 95-up Nissan MAF sensor is less restrictive than previous versions. I found that eliminating this MAF sensor was good for only 3.5hp. "

Have I been here long enough to show skepticism at the 142 ft lbs of torque at only 1500 rpm?

142ft. lbs. at 1500rpms seems virtually impossible to me. I was making 150 ft. lbs. at 2500 rpms, and that was at 17lbs. of boost on my kat. Obviously I dont make power without boost, but thats still a ridiculous amount at that rpms and I dont think its possible.

Why is it impossible? It's a truck motor and the stock curve looks the same the AEM curve is just higher... Comparing a turbo car's torque to a NA car's torque is impossible. The NA KA will make torque lower if only becasue of the difference in exhaust gas velocity. Here is another chart from Injen's website...

Notice that the chart starts slighty higher in the RPM range but there is no sign of a "builup" on the cart so you can assme it has built up all that torque lower in the RPM range than the chart shows. IE Less than 2000 RPM just as the AEM chart shows...

RobDET,

I'll give them my G for a week. If this is right boltons and EMS will give me 280whp car.

The gains aren't a guarantee just for installing the EMS. This is one particular instance, for one particular 240sx that they tuned.

why won't people just accept it and let it be?

I don't see that 280 in a G35 would be difficult at all. The coupe comes with that stock at the flywheel.

Also i think you can expect similar gains on your 240s. It was a stock California car. If you can find someone who can tune like them you should see similar gains.

I'm also assuming you will be able to download that map soon becasue AEM has a place for people to upload maps for their cars.
