A local custom shop called Dealer Options ordered the mirror and installed it for me.

[QUOTE=boooey]well, i took the plunge and ordered a NISSAN OEM HOMELINK with AMBER compass. This is the NEW model of Homelink mirrors, where the compass chip is located in the actual mirror, not at the base of the mount, and the plug is right under the arm mount, not off too the side of the mirror. You'll also notice the buttons, and lights are slightly different.

Folks, Gentex mirrors fit just fine using a Gentex base. You need to remove the mirror and not the original base - install the gentex and run wires. Two of the wires already are there in the headliner if you have the vanity mirrors. The prem package cars also have a slick popout access door for the connector and a small slot in the headliner for the wire. You will however need to run two other wires to the fusebox(not a big deal)..My dimming/Homelink/compass setup cost me 185 on sale and the install was 65.00 since I already had it partially apart and the new mirror on. Yes, I chickened out on removing the pillar cover and headliner to fish the wires. NO other gadjets needed on this setup- just a minor wiring ..I expect Nissan to offer a MIRROR choice as a DIO for most of their lineup in the 2009 season.

FYI- Be sure to get the newest model mirror of this year(gentex). Earlier models work, but, are not as sturdy. IMHO

I'm going to clarify this post with install photos..its aten minute no tools removal and can be a quick hookup too. We are making it sound impossible- it IS way simple. NEW POST SOON WITH PHOTOS

Ok so what you are saying is that you just remove the original plain mirror off its base and then remove the gentex mirror off its base and then just plug in the gentex into the base that is currently stuck on the window?

Will it be possible to wire all 3 wires onto the top or you will need to have the wires going to the fuse box?

update: i see what you mean by it being a tool less removal but i decided to use a flat head screwdriver to apply pressure to the click that stops it from moving. Flew out after numerous attempts as it was kind of confusing to remove.

The nissan rogue already has a built in wedge on the car so when you order you will not need one.

Now i have the mirror on the rogue, going to get it wired by my friend tomorrow. Will have pictures when my pioneer gets installed and dimming.

WIRING HELP.. if you have a Moonroof and the little access panel behind the driver sunshade you are in luck

There is a connector there with the right wiring and its a fidget/fumble to hook up. I found it way ez when I just dropped the map light assy(clips are ez to see- just depress with small screwdriver) This harness then can be completely removed to work on on the bench.

Wiring- 1.Battery HOT Harness color is red..connect to Gentex yellow.2.Ignition switchedharness color is pink.. connect to Gentexred3. Ground Black/black.

Don't connect RED to RED.. its Wrong,.

The mirror draws under 1A when operating and these feeds are well fuzed and will not cause any electrical problems...IMHO

Im not familiar with the model you have. You may just need to pop off the pillar cover and feed a wire with a pullstring attached from the wire slot just above the mirror to the pillar. Feed the wire from the pillar to the fuse box direct by snaking it under dash and out to box. It's a little hassle but pretty straight foreward. Dont forget to pull all wires at once.

You will however have to disconnect the battery when feeding the wire.accidental shorting a circuit could ruin your whole day(and week)Better to reset a clock and radio than have a boo boo discharge of a airbag too!!!

The pillar is that part between the headliner and the dash along the side of the window.. pop it off (its a clip on),run a pull wire(venerable coat hanger) from mirror under headliner till it pooks out at pillar area...pull wires to that point and then fish it down pillar to the fusebox.. find the wiring and tap into it there.. The wiring diagram for the fusebox is on the back of the cover. You want one with "always on" and one that is on when ignition is on. Any ground will do. With patience, it should take a half hour to fish and tap into the wiring. Don't try to pull headliner down more than a finger width to fish the wire. It can be done but getting it back is a pain.

I'm looking to purchase a used FX35 that has the autodimming mirror, but not homelink. Does anyone know if a new mirror would be "plug & play." That is, could I just take the old one down and plug in the new one without running wires?

any pictures of the install? I want to get the mirror and install it myself. I have the SL model moonroof but no premium package. The autodimm would come handy.

Hi AznJohn, As far as I know there are no threads with pics showing a step by step install. I started putting one together that I hoped to have completed by now but my work schedule keeps getting in the way. I hope to complete it in the next couple weeks.

That said, quite a few forum members have completed the task in less than 2 hours. If you are even the slightest bit handy its a pretty simple install... providing you have acquired a nice working mirror "with" complete wiring harness "and" the mirror has the correct mounting bracket!

NOTE: If you are shopping eBay make sure you know what you are buying. If you buy one a mirror with the wrong mount you'll be out the money. Rearview mirrors have a multitude of mounting styles, wedge, camlock, channel etc. require certain mirrors. As you know the mirror itself clamps on to a tab that is glued to the windshield. The tab on the windshield determines the mirror mount. Nissans from model year 2000 on use a wedge style mount.

Granted the tab (if you are very lucky and careful) can be removed from the windshield but breaking the windshield is a risk you may not want to take. So, your best bet is to make sure the mirror you buy uses a wedge style mount.

The trickiest part of the install can be trying to figure out how to remove the old (original factory) mirror. If you haven't already read it, here’s a link to the thread on removing the mirror:

zer...69872

Based on your original question its clear you've read thru the mirror threads but I'll include a couple here for anyone that hasn't seen them yet.

I purchased the one for the Altima (Nissan part no 999L1-UT000) and installed it in our 2010 Rogue. The mirror itself fit perfectly but had to modify the harness that came with it since it only had two wires (one ground and one for power). A little jumper cable a the back of the connector itself was spliting the power for the compass/dimming system. I cut that jumper wire and connected it directly to a "ACC" powered source which feeds the compass/dimming system. The other wire went to a "battery direct" power source for the Homelink system. Since our Rogue has the sunroof, i tapped into the connector located above the driver side sun visor (blue wire for "ACC" source and the Pink one for direct from battery). I paid $155.00 plus shipping on EBAY (Covina Nissan from CA)

Dude, if your gentex mirror is broken/defective. The liquid/gel is disintegrated and becomes liquid-like and dim all the time. replace it or your interior will be ruined once the liquid leak. Contact Gentex customer service/phone number. I got free replacement from them. They are very nice.
