Hi guys,I was driving my 06' M35 last week on the freeway. The A/C was off, and I was just cruising back from work...after 5 minutes of driving, out of no where the A/C turns on to Auto and full blast (I was like mate). I pushed the off button and it didn't do anything. Infact non of the buttons worked on the console. The screen went blank and the whole computer system inside seemed like it was running on something Microsoft made, and crashed.

I pulled over on the highway and turned off the car to reboot the system. When it turned on again, it was all fine...then after 10 minutes of driving, BAM out of no where same scenario, but this time when I pulled over and rebooted it still didn't work after I rebooted it 7 times! Then finally on the 8th try it worked. I immediately called Infiniti Santa Monica Service Center, and told them I have to bring it in right now because I couldn't even drive from the A/C being on full blast and me freezing in the car.

After they checked it out for a few days, they said they drove it alot and nothing happend, so they don't know what the problem was. They checked all wires and they were intact. Infiniti said next time it happens I should drive straight there without shutting down the car so they can take a look at it.

Has anyone had this happen to them? Or know what the problem could be? Could it be solved?

Thanks.

It is probably a bad ground connection or poorly seated connector. Finding out which one is the tricky part.

You are not alone, I have had a few different versions of this problem, it started earlier this year the first time it happend, the radio shut off and none of the buttons on the console or steering wheel worked. I took it in they told me they couldnt duplicate the problem, it happend again the following week I took it back and this time I didnt turn off the car when I got to the service dept, they took it back kept it a couple of days and changed one of the controllers. Brought it home worked fine for a few weeks then bingo radio shuts off again fan stuck on high nothing else worked not even the backup cam...took it back they had it for a couple days again...this time they said the tech line told them they were aware of the problem but no one knew how to fix it as of yet told me to bring it home and keep checking back with them...but now this latest round when it locks it turns the AC on Blast the screen blanks and nothing can be controlled...the only way to stop it is to shut off the car for a few seconds...but now as soon as the car is turned back on I switch off the ac and within 10 seconds its back in the same cycle but only the screen stays off.

I loved the car till this started and if there was anything else i wanted out there Id trade this thing in a heartbeat!

I hope they figure this out soon

This is the weirdest problem. I am literally ready right now to trade in my car for a BMW or Acura, etc to get rid of this problem. It's completely absurd! I can't even drive without being paranoid that my A/C will turn on any second on full blast and non of the buttons work. If I have to take my car in one more time for this problem, I will file a claim that my car is a lemon. If they do not give me a new car, or fix the problem, I am not even joking right now > I will file a lawsuit

Well that's the attitude that will make shop techs tell you they can't find a problem. Next time you go in, just ask a tech to go on a ride with you for a while. It's their job to diagnose problems like that, and if you say you can recreate it while randomly driving around... then randomly drive around! Take a half hour or an hour and drive with a service tech in the car. Wait until it happens, and then let the tech offer input. Be nice with those guys, they work hard and really hate it when customers tell them they're wrong. What's the saying... you catch more flies with honey...?

ps - I echo pedros comment up there... every car has problems but it only matters when it's yours. BMW's and Acuras fail just as easily as an Infiniti... in fact if electrical gremlins are a problem in your M... imagine what they'd be like in an Acura with twice the gadgets... just be happy it's not while your Lexus LS is trying to parallel park itself...!

Well this will be the 4th time Im taking mine back. I talked to my service rep and he told me to bring it in and they would keep it till they figured it out. All I can say is Im glad its still warm enough for the AC to be needed. As I said before the 1st time they told me they couldnt recreate the condition but 2nd time I took the service rep on a ride with me and it cut out and we didnt turn it off he drove it straight into the service bay. So now thats how I take it back to them if it cuts out....I dont shut off the engine so they can witness for themselves. I also am just about ready to trade it...but as it stand now there isnt anything I like better...not a lexus fan, wasnt impressed with the cts or a few of the others interiors. well atleast now I know Im not alone with this problem like they tried to make me believe. I'll keep you posted on how this plays out. I bet you if it was something I had to pay for they would figure it out quick .

I dont know of anyone else so far in the DC area with this problem.lucky me

Ok seems more than just us are having this problem, did another search and found this zerothread/277895 this seems to imply that its a bluetooth issue, would you by any chance have a plam treo?

I Have the 700wx so if my car wernt in the shop id try it right now. Why would they list it on their site as compatable....

Yes, I have a Treo 700w, but how could that be the problem when it has never happend to me in the past and then out of no where it just does...doesn't seem to make any sense.

Well thats the only thing those of us who are having the problem have in common....It has to be the bluetooth controller or some app running in the system thats causing everything to lock up, remember it is a computer after all at the heart of it all. I jared my memory, I didnt have this problem untill I got my Treo, Son of a gun.....I hope they have a update...cause the treo 700w is listed on their site as a compitable phone and the wx just has dialup networking so its basically the same as the 700w

HEY! I started a string a couple of weeks ago. IT IS INDEED BECAUSE YOU HAVE A TREO 700 PAIRED UP!!!!

TRUST ME...SPARE YOURSELF some anguish. Unpair the phone and Inifiniti is supposed to have a fix out in about a month.

This only happens WHEN YOU HAVE A TREO 700 phone paired up.

The M35 is not the only car with this problem. IT IS ALSO A Q56, M45 or ANY Infiniti vehicle with the identical navigation system!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PLEASE DON"T SINGLE OUT THE M35.

Thanks.

Ok well I guess your right. So where can I get this "update" from? Does it update the computer system? Can you be more specific on this update. Thanks

Yes, there are two things I would recommend you do to place yourself on Infiniti's notification list.

Call their Consumer Affairs line at 1-800-662-6200 to report your issue, which they will acknowledge exists, AND send an email to [email protected].

I e-mailed them and got no response. Call center was useless as well. My dealer (Santa Monica) doesn't acknowledge the problem either. Guess I'm going to be stuck with this issue

Well I got the problem back again today while driving. AC came on Auto and everything locked up (again, this happens randomly)...the worst part is that for some reason this time around, even after I reboot the car, and I push the AC on manually, it will turn on, but will not light up on my console at all!

btw: don't try telling me about this thread: zerothread?id=331188 I already tried it, and Infiniti does not recognize this fix.

Well, I guess all I can tell you is that Infiniti Consumer Affairs informed me of the fix, I took it into my dealer, they applied the fix(replaced the dvd player in the glove box which evidently has more than just NAV electronics in it) and I have still not had another issue with it. I still have the same Treo 700w.

Well I took the car back to the dealer again last week, and pushed them to diagnose the problem, and this time around they actually admit that THE CUSTOMER IS RIGHT! Took them this long to figure it out. Well, I'm happy to say they replaced the "Nav Control Unit" which they thought was causing the problem, so I just got it back yesterday. I'll keep you all posted if any issues arise again. Thank you to all!

Good deal Supra!! Keep us posted.

Sorry if this part is redundant...This upgrade also adds "virtual bread crumbs" on your screen as you travel. A new twist on a NAV system that I've never seen. It drops small dots on your path. If you leave an unfamiliar area, you don't have to punch your reverse route back in...just follow the crumbs.
