Well - I just ordered some 5 Star Shine. I sure hope its all that its supposed to be - sounds too good to be true, but havent read any bad reviews about it yet. Not sure if I'm going to put it on my '96 i30 (which is in need of some love right now), or test it on my wife's Accord. I'll try to post my experience and pictures if anyone is interested in the product.

I have only heard good things about it.... One of our moderators (rydwhite, I know him personally) has it on his bright red G35... Needless to say, its NICE.... I havent seen it with the 5 star on it, but he says all he has to do to wash it is rinse and wipe it dry!!!

Im using imperial paste wax.... It works very good, and I dont care about durability as I re-wax every 3 months or so... I was very pleased with this.....

Both products are FAR inferior, and it's not just about durability.

Zymol is simply a wax without the solvents (big deal) and paste wax is old-school (builds up on your clearcoat and isn't optically clear).

i30, you'll be impressed. Do a search on this site for Zaino and 5Star, there are some good threads about application and the differences between products.

It seems like all the car detailers that I know use zynol. I thought zynol was good, so I brought a bunch of zynol bottles from costco. Still have two bottles left, but after that I will try something else.

Hitman,

What are you currently using?

Zaino.

It's the same formulation as 2 other (possibly more) products:

5Star and Lex (which is the "paint protectant" included on all new Infiniti's).

Met the inventor of Zaino and discussed the chem composition in great, headache-inducing detail. If it's the highest-ranked in independent tests by the Rolls/Bentley Club, the NSX and Corvette clubs (among others), it's good enough for me.

The results are truly awe-inspiring... NO comparison, and I have been into show car quality products for decades. Remember I had a car in World of Wheels in 1989-90.

Zymol makes different products for different markets. The stuff we buy off the shelf is not the same as what show car detailers use:

"The new 55% white Carnauba Destiny retails for $525.00 a container and it's back-ordered!"

Still a lot cheaper than it was when it first came out, maybe 14 years ago.

Hitman - are you saying that 5 star and Zaino are essentially the SAME product?

That's true. They have formulations just for Japanese cars, black cars, white cars etc.

From what I have heard, they are essentially the same.

As Wes mentioned earlier, I've used 5-star on my G35 coupe and I love it. All I do, is just take my car to the self car wash and use the power sprayer and apray the car down real well. I often times take a microfiber wash mit and go over the car too just to make sure that I get everything off, but it usally isn't necessary. I then just dry with a microfiber towel and the car look like it has just been waxed. It carries a nice deep shine to it. Chad of 5-star said it will last something like 5 years. I'm still skeptical about that. But, we'll see. I've had it on my car for about 3 or 4 months, so it is really too early to tell how well it will last long term. But, so far, I am really pleased.

I think that 5 star and zaino are the same (results wise) but 5 star says it will last longer!!! Again, I dont know... Zaino is pretty reasonably priced too.....

Basically they share the same technology and chemical composition. Should last 6-12 months depending on variables such as garaging habits, rain, washings, etc.

What about those clay bars? They're supposed to take the carbon out of the paint which supposedly makes the paint shine like nothing else could. Has anyone tried those?

Clay doesnt make the paint shine but it does prep the surface by removing all the road dirt and other crap that gets into the paint. After you clay a car you can wipe your hand across it and its smooth as glass. If you want to do a wax/polish right you want to clay first to make the surface perfect.

the clay bar is essential to getting the most from ANY wax or paint protection product. the rusults are truly amazing.

i've had the 5 Star product on my Q for about 2 months now and only take it to a self-serve car wash. it's all i have to do, the dirt comes off very easy. since i live in a town with a cement factory, the dust is unreal, but it just doesn't build up on the paint like before using 5 Star. still very early, but so far so good, and yes, no wax i've ever used has looked this good after 2 months in this town.

Anyone know if the 5star kit includes the clay bars?

If anyone order the 5star, remember to enter "vipdiscount" for $20 off. Which make the 5star kit around 77 + shipping.

Are the clay bars easy to use? Is there a chance I could damage the paint if I don't do it correctly? I don't have much confidence in myself.

Clay bar.. All you do is rub it on the car with little pressure, using some of the "lube" that comes with it.... I dont see how you could mess it up, unless you tried......

clay bars are very easy to use and almost impossible to screw up the paint w/ them (just don't drop the bar in the dirt and continue to use it!!!!! definitly will scratch the paint at that point).

simply a small piece of clay. you first spray a small area of the paint w/ a quick detailer spray and rub the clay bar over the area that's wet. the paint must be wet,,,,the clay bar needs a lubricant to slide over the paint. if the paint isn't HORRIBLE, should be very easy. after you're done with a section, rub your hand over it, then the spot next to it that wasn't done yet. AMAZING difference. paint that feels like smooth glass!!!!!easy as that. should then wash the car again before applying the product.

Well said.

Don't forget to wash car thoroughly beforehand with DAWN soap to remove buildup of waxes and grime.

Glad to see some people have tried and are in the process of evaluating 5 Star Shine.

There will always be people who don't like certain products, many of those people don't even try the products they knock. 5 Star has a great record of people being satisfied with it and many are more enthusiastic when they see how easy it is to keep their car clean and looking sharp.

For those who are evaluating it, please write back and update us on how it is working. I have a specific thread set up for people to write in their comments.

Thanks, -Chad from 5 Star

I've been using Zaino for the past 3 years and it's really great. My 97Q shines better than my sister's 03 Acura TL (on Zymol). I'll try 5 Star once my current stock of Zaino runs out. Just a reminder about clay bar and Dawn - these are mainly for' prep' and need not be used on regular basis, especially Dawn which has a degreaser.

What have you guys heard about Klasse?

I've read that it is similar to Zaino in that is the also an acrylic polymer. The difference is that you have to wait longer between applications with Klasse to build up the coats. However, Klasse maybe available in larger quanities at a much lower price. Can anybody confirm this?

go to http://www.autopia.org and search and read about every kind of wax on there and then make a decision. Klasse is a lot cheaper and to me it looks as good and its easier to apply. Doesnt cost 6 trillion dollars and you can use other products with it so you dont have to use zaino only products.

That enough reasons for me to buy the one of the big jugs of Klasse. Do you recommend that I get both the All-In-One and Sealant Glaze?

Thanks for the link. Maybe it's got the answer to my question.;)

Well so much for this thread talking about people using 5 Star. :)

I'm not here to put down any oher products as many work fine. One of the most important things to remember is to have your paint as clean as possible before applying any wax or sealant.

5 Star isn't a multi-step process........there is no drying time and layering that needs to be done such as with Zaino and others. On clean paint you can be done with the 5 Star process in about an hour.

Not only will you be done in an hour, you'll also save yourself time in the long run because your paint will stay cleaner and look as if it were freshly waxed for far longer than Zaino or any other long term polish out there.

As others report back on their experiences I hope more decide to try out 5 Star Shine. Remember the discount code 'vipdiscounts'.
