blackaccord,
I am assuming that you do wash off dried bird doo and tree sap as soon as you see it, am I right? That stuff will eat through anything. I would not trust any type of wax product to thouroughly protect my paint from that. If you let it sit in the hot sun for a couple of days, I think it would make some sense that it will not come off easy. If you wash it as soon as you see it, there shouldn't be a problem, at least that is the result that I have seen. I always carry a bottle of detail spray or water and a microfiber cloth to clean that stuff off the car as soon as I see it. I don't want to take any chances. Most peopleI have met who are car enthusiasts and care about the appearance of their cars does something similar.
Secondly, did you properly prep the car's paint before applying? I am not sure if that could be a cause of the problems or not. I think washing and claybaring the car would make a huge difference in the way the 5-star product lasts. Again, I may be wrong about this. I haven't checked the site out in awhile to read it all and don't really remember all of their claims, but I am pretty sure that they recommended that the car be claybarred for optimal protection and coverage. The claybar would also enhance the smoothness of the paint since it gets rid of all contaminats. I don't think that their is anything as good for the paint in protection, appearance and feel as using a claybar.
And as someone else stated above, the early-mid 90's Q45's had the best paint ever applied to a car. I have seen dozens of 10-14 year old Q's with absolutely beautiful paint. Infiniti took special care in their early years to provide the best possible paint. Actually most old Q's paint looks as good and usually better than my 1 year old G35. It was and still is an amazing paint job. So, yeah NuQ's paint probably does still look new and perfect.
I am a bit confused by the term "glaze" you use. Do you mean the shine? Sorry for my ignorance on this. I used to use Zymol on my car and my car didn't shine nearly as well as it does now and I had to reapply Zymol twice a year and it wasn't near as easy to wash. I don't expect 5-star to last 4 or 5 years, but I do expect a good 2 years out of it. I save money in washing and in buying wax every year so I figure it is worth it. Plus it doesn't cost that much, somehting like $40 or $50 with the discount and you can use it to do 2 cars. And my car looks great still despite the little rock chips that I have.
If you're not happy with, by all means, I would suggest to Dawn the car and apply something that you are more confident and comfortable with. It's not like you lost a lot of money with it.
