Good point.

If for no other reason than to support those who pay the bills to keep NICO running, consider trying the 5Star!

Sorry about the hi-jack. I've been around long enough to know better. I'll start a seperate thread next time. I've been considering all three product for some time.

I've read throught all the posts on this thread. The 5 Star Shine stuff sounds really good but almost far fetched. Does this thing really allow you to simply hose off ALL the dirt a year later??? There are many different types of "dirt" and I wonder if the product can deal with them all in the same way. If only some of the dirt is coming off and an owner then applies his chamois then some damage to the paint will occur over time.

Just a little skeptic here... I have not used the product but am willing try it if it's really as good as stated.

Hi DrewQ45, I am the rep (Chad) and the guy responding on the 5 Star threads. I've been a sponsor on Nico for 4 months now in an effort to make people aware of what we believe is the best long term car polish out there.

I've had it on my car for over 7 months now and to wash it I just use a wash mitt and a hose. I've gone 2 weeks without washing my car at times and the dirt comes off just as easy with a couple of swipes as others on this site will testify to themselves.

Here's another thread with comments about it as well. Check out the first and last posts especially.

There are many on the site trying it and I am simply asking those who've tried/are trying 5 Star to write back. It certainly helps bring validity to the 5 Star Shine claims.

I hope you take the opportunity to try 5 Star. If so, don't forget to use 'vipdiscounts' as the discount customer code.

Drew - It does indeed work as you say. Best to use some decent pressure (like a sprayer at a DIY car wash).

I don't even use a wash mitt - Just high-pressure soap and high-pressure rinse. My chamois would show any dirt remaining, and there's none.

Good product.

chad, just went to the self-serve wash yesterday, and have to say, the shine is definitly holding up. the dirt is not sticking to the paint like it would with regular wax. i took a "wash-mit" this time and wiped as i went along and the shine is still amazing!! never had this with just carnuba. not saying this is a "never wax" again product, but if it holds up for a year,,,,,well worth it!!!!!jeff

Hey Chad,

I'm still really happy with 5-Star. The shine is still great and the washing is still really easy. The dirt just comes right off. It's raining out right now, that nice steady soaking rain, so I'm sure that when I go out after work today that my car will look like it was just washed and waxed. All the dirt and dust just washes right off with a spray of water, so I have no complaints.

hey wes, i know chad will write but, yeah, i'm hoping to get a good year and i'll be happy too. paint prep is most important, dawn wash, CLAY BAR!!!!, dawn wash again, then the 5 star. i ordered just the basic 5 star paint protection and used my own clay bar. w/ the discount came to around 40-50 plus shipping. to me worth a year of no more time spent waxing!!!! i get too anal with the waxing and tend to spend way too much time on it, so this makes it easier to do other things on sat. or sun.!! if my girlfriend knew this would be the result, i'm sure she would have flipped for my order!!!! You guys are absolutely right as far as the whole clay bar thing.

We have them in our deluxe kit and you can hunt them down in auto parts stores as well.

I can't say it enough that though the clay bar takes some elbow grease, it makes sense to get your paint as clean as possible before protecting it.

I agree that the price is worth it in terms of time you'll save alone plus you won't need to buy any other car finish product. 5 Star also has the same protection for cloth interiors and leather...

It's been a good 10 months since I put it on my Volvo out here in the CA sun and it still works as good as ever.

Thanks for all of your support and please write back after your first wash!

Is the stuff in that thread true? Im hearing mixed reviews about it.

The thread is no surprise to me. I've seen it. There will always be people who don't like a product for a host of reasons.

There are far more positive reviews here from trusted members/moderators than the one referenced on Autopia. Just do a search here on nico under '5 star shine' and you'll see them. :)

Yeah, no sweat... Sorry if I came off wrong. I in no way am trying to be defensive. I just have dealt with tons and tons of criticism from people who haven't even tried or cared to try out 5 Star Shine.

I in no way am suggesting you are like one of those people. I hope you all decide to try it out. Let me know if I can help out in any other way.

I dont think that link is all that critical.

The only guy there who actually used it, said he didnt apply at the proper temp.

I think the hardest part for people is to quit using the word WAX.

This type of product is not a wax, but rather a high-tech polymer coating that seals to your paint and protects it from "bad things".

Fred, get the beast all shiny for the girlies!!!

Does it do a pretty good job of removing swirls.? I got quite a bit and id like for the color to be a bit deeper....

However, I have only a tiny bit of wax left on..... 5 star will probably happen over spring break (with the rest of the Q restoration)

Hi, good question. Yes 5 Star will get rid of/fill in those swirls.-Chad
