The headers started as block huggers then had to be cut off of the block flange, re-fit, re-bent, lengthened, twisted, rewelded, and then heat impregnated with a mixture of ATF,WD-40,and motor oil. Ceramic and other fancy coatings are for suckers. These will never rust, period.

To Rustproof the headers you will need:
Headers Non Coated, Raw Steel
Gallon jug of ATF,Used motor oil, Can of WD40(MOSTLY Automatic Trans Fluid)
Small Torch
Rag
Welding Gloves
Coat Hanger to hang the headers from

Hang the headers and heat an area to just before red hot, soak the rag in your mixture and apply to the hot area(be sloppy and messy), they should turn black in color, if not they were not hot enough, do the procedure twice, and dont miss any spots, and dont breath the fumes

Thanks, does this prevent corrosion nastiness on stainless too or just works for mild steel?
also do you have an about how many parts of each of those you mix in to get a good slurry?

I would say 90% ATF and wing the rest. I have only done this on mild steel. Polishing would be the best way to keep stainless headers clean, or go balls out and hve them copper coated for an amazing look, I actually considered the copper but went the hillbilly route insted.
No I own and operate a pen15. That is my girlfriend treating my dad's headers.

1) Thanks for the info sir,
2) Congrats on the pen15, I hope you read the operator's manual, don't wanna be having phantom misfires. :gapteeth:
3)Your girlfriend is a bad a**, any woman that will grab a torch and welding gloves is alright by me. :bigthumb:

Close, very close, a few major setbacks, I need the shaker hood kit from a 72' cuda, or aftermarket equivalent.

I must say - for the first thread I read on this website, it's great to know that there are people skilled/crazy enough to try this. I am torn between JDM and american muscle, and this is the ULTIMATE compromise. :gapteeth: :mike

Hey, I finally found Shannon and the 454 build again!
Didn't remember this was in the tech section, glad to see that things are getting closer to ready to roll...can't WAIT to hear a Big Block sound in a Z32.
And yeah, as mentioned earlier put this in the general section and you'll get even more "ooh's and Ahhhhhhhh's".
Oh, and loved the "own and operate a pen15" quote...nice!
