The Z-32 is definitely not a Hybrid friendly platform! I’ve stabbed a traditional SBC and an LSX in to my ’90 Z-32 V-8 Mock up mule! Not pretty! I even stabbed in an L-26 which fit just as badly as the V-8’S! THE VH45DE fits about the easiest of the available engine packages available.

FWIW, my Z-32 power train is up for sale as I will be installing either my VH45DE or an LSx in my ’93 N/A coupe. I’m strongly leaning towards the LSX currently, even though it will require more fabrication than the VH45DE/ Z-32 conversion.

Here are a few shots of the SBC, 5.3L LM7 and L-26 from a 260-Z sitting in the engine bay of the Z-32;

SBC;

L-26, (as a joke);

LM7;

welcome to nico braap!for those not familar with braap he does amazing things with the L6 heads and did some great documentation of the megasquirt n edis, very knowledgable and technical person to have around

as for what I made on my cars, the Z32... I shorted the stock shifter, oterwise just bolting things on, and yeah I don't love the mellon shooter tips ont he hks exhaust, but it uses one less bend than every other system and uses a straight through muffeler which is a good thing for a turbo car

my 240Z, well I built the megasquirt n spark engine managment system, harness etc, I was runing a fuel rail I made before upgradign to the pallnet rail when I switched to o-rign injectors, I fabbeed a custom downpipe and full exhaust form mandrel bends, I sectioned my strut housings to accept shorter inserts and coil overs, I spuppose everyhitng else was bolt on or weld on, and I only killed that cone in self defence, it was trying to get me

my Z31 I fabbed some engine mounts form hockey pucks as well and the megasquirt n spark, downpipe and exhaust (this downpipe was a huge PITA, the stock turbo has a cast dp to go around the steering column, fabbing it was a bit tricky

I'd much rather build and tune my own engine managment than try tuning a carb, me a carb's just don't get along, and the stock electronic's on the L28ET are just uugly, my version looks much better

Z are like Harley Davidsons. It's harder to find a stock one than a modded one. If you want to be original, and different. Keep it stock.

With that said. You want big HP for low $. I can understand that. I have however found from previous experience that this is generally not possible. Yes you can install the engine for less, but in the end I think it would be cheaper to own car with a different swap. Just remember every time you break a custom part, you're fabbing a new one again. Like you said there are no walk throughs. There is no help. It used to be that way for the RB -> S chassis swap, but we still did them. Basically if you're looking for specific help you're probably not going to get it. Be prepared to do it 100% w/o help, or don't do it.

Wow, commendations on the nice effort! Has this car been dyno'd? It would be very interesting to compare the printouts against a 600 HP VGtt. SBC's usually have a much broader torque band than the stock/upgraded engine which would certainly spell street-fun!

we plan on bringing it to the dyno at Trick Engineering in Hampstead, NH in the spring. They specialize more in Hondas and stuff like that, but I have seen a Z32, S13, Supra, etc when I have been with my own or my buddy's....Hondas. HahaWhat matters is they have a dyno, and the guy is gonna let us get it and my buddy's V8 Civic on there for very cheap. One of us will post the results when we get them.

Find out what make and model of Dyno it is as they vary a lot, even from location and operator.Would be interesting to get some modded Z's of similar HP and compare the printouts at least on the same brand dyno for comparison.
